“Perfect for young families”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

Stayed at this Thomson resort with my daughter's family. Being by the sea and offering a choice of pools including a water park, it was an ideal choice for young children but also worked well for the grown ups. Accommodation and public areas were clean and serviced regularly, staff were helpful and friendly and the resort was well located. We stayed at the end of the season and it was noticeable that some furnishings in public areas were in need of maintenance or repair but this did not present any significant problem.
A number of the arrangements at the resort are somewhat outdated. Passports are retained on arrival and remain on public view in pigeon holes behind the reception desk. TV remote controls are issued to guests on arrival and are required to be returned to reception on departure. Additional charges apply for the use of room air conditioning and the room safe (100Euro per week for both).

There is a good choice of restaurants close by. Standards are variable but the better ones offer good food at very reasonable prices.

Just returned from a lovely relaxing stay at the Alykanas Village. We booked last minute and got a pretty good deal, but I was still apprehensive about the fact it was a family resort as we don't have kids. However as it was the end of the season there weren't too many kids about and the kids that were there were busy being entertained by the kids club.
The hotel is very clean, the kitchen in the room has everything you need (though we did go and buy mugs so we could have a proper cup of tea in the morning!). I don't understand why the knife drawer is so low down and I think this should be changed - it's easily accessable for a toddler to get their mits on.
We requested a sea-view room with the hotel and they gave us a lovely first floor room overlooking the quiet pool and sea at no extra cost. The only negative thing I can say about the room is the beds are pretty hard to sleep on.
Plenty of sunbeds round the pool areas. Snack bar prices reasonable. (Although ice-creams are slightly on the more expensive side).
Hotel is right on the beach (and the sea is fairly warm - well warmer than the pool anyway) and just a 2 minute walk to the nearest restaurants and bars. We went to a different place each night though most places do pretty similar food. Really enjoyed Danny's Bar and Cuba Bar.
Highly recommend to those with young families, but don't be put off the hotel if you are travelling with just your partner. I fully enjoyed this holiday and will hopefully return in the future! :)

This was our 4th visit to Alykanas and we knew where this Hotel was situated so thought we would give it a try. Booking about week's before we travelled (end of season) we got this hotel at a good price!! We enjoyed a lovely week at the end of September staying at the Alykanas Thomson Village Family Hotel, normally this type of holiday would be our worst night mare (Family Hotel) but staying at the end of season was most enjoyable. I emailed before our arrival asking for a high floor room overlooking the quiet pool (this is the pool which overlooks the beach). We received an e-mail saying they would try their best!!, I am very pleased to say they honoured our request and we had a lovely spacious room, very clean with everything for a self catering holiday (not that we used anything only the kettle!!) but this was our choice. We had a fantastic view of the sea/beach and this was wonderful to wake up to in the mornings and sitting on the balcony early evening before going out! We didn't use any other facilities at the Hotel but everywhere looked very clean. It was reasonably quiet whilst we were staying there, mostly young families. The weather was Brilliant !! We went to Cozy Corner (Shortie's) every morning for a large English breakfast which was good value 5e, Bonkers Bar during the day for lunch some days and drinks. Our two favourite restaurants were Vrasaki's (George's) and Paradasiako on the canal on the way to Alykes.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor overlooking the quiet pool if you want it quiet!! Gorgeous sea view too!!

Really enjoyed our stay here, our room overlooked the pool, with balcony in shadow during afternoon and evening, though able to sit out the front door to enjoy the mountain view and late evening sunshine. Room very clean and had no issue with the beds, agree with previous comments on the bathrooms, just need of an update. The maid service was excellent and non intrusive. Not much sound protection between rooms, you certainly were aware when people were in their rooms.

First time we have been to a family hotel and not certain would go again, as don't enjoy the incessant need for loud music around the pools. No concerns with obtaining a sunbed, at any time of day more than ample to go round. The location of the hotel was perfect, right on the beach and not too far a walk to the restaurants and pubs. We seem to end up at the Apollo and Dionisos , which both served great food and had good service.

The €25 spent on a safe wasn't good, but didn't want to carry round passports, so they have you trapped. The staff were friendly enough, although I got the impression that they were glad it was the end of the season.

For the price we paid as a late booking, well worth the money, if I had younger children, would certainly book again, but as a couple not for us.

Our room were clean and tidy, basic and simple, like most Greek kitchens and bathrooms nothing fancy but totally serviceable. Did it have up to date modern fixtures and fitting no, did this make our stay worse absolutely not!! The facilities are fabulous our 2 yr old and 5 yr old had great fun in the pools, splash park and park, as well as in the lovely warm calm and shallow Ionian sea perfect for littlens and made lots of sand castles etc. We left our room at 10am and invariable didn't return until 10pm!! My daughter loved the kids clubs and evening entertainment. We have a ground floor apartment with view of the pool. I really liked that the room beds were divided by a half wall meaning when we sat out at night having a nightcap with the kids tucked up near but with a barrier. All in all fab hotel complex if you make total use of the facilities and the location you'll love it, if your looking to stay in luxury apartments 24/7 not the place for you. And also an absolute must is the Elia restaurant (first one you come to out the complex) we tried many on the "strip" but this is by far the best Definitely would recommend and return!!

We had a lovely stay here, we had a 2 bedroom appartment which was fairly basic but was fine. We had a double bedroom for us, small bathroom with bath and shower (this could have been cleaner I have to say!), small kitchen area with microwave and fridge, and cooker etc, and then a twin bedroom which we had asked for a cot to be put in as well (nice big comfy cot with good mattress), and an outdoor patio which was lovely because we had breakfast out there every morning. You had to pay extra for air con which we did as it was quite warm. The beds were not amazingly comfortable but were OK, I would say the appartment itself was more 2-3* than 4*, but no real problems, just don't expect luxury!!

The reason why I think this is an amazing place for families is the other facilities - you are literally set right on a lovely, shelving beach which you can walk to in 1 minute, with soft sand, warm water, little fish swimming around and views of Kefalonia. There are great swimming pools in the hotel including a very shallow pool for little ones and a great splash park with slides etc. There is also a nice playground, and a really good cafe area which served nice food and drinks. We didn't join in with any of the Thomson activities because our babies were too small, but there was lots going on, and you could take it or leave it. There was a good little supermarket tucked away on site which sold pretty much everything you would need, and also had beach toys etc. Because the buildings were all low level this did not feel like a great ugly eyesore, it was a nice environment to be in. The other guests were all really friendly and nice too. We hired a pushchair, and be warned - keep your receipt because they tried to charge us twice which I did find annoying!

Just a short walk along the beach was the Ammos beach bar which we loved, great food, play area for the children, hammocks and a gorgeous beach/sea view. The hotel was a very short walk from a huge range of bars and restaurants, almost all of which had a playground or soft play area in them, and all of which were friendly and helpful and had great service. With 2 children under 3, it was amazing to be able to spend a week going out every evening for a meal, and for it to be so easy. Zante as a whole we loved, we hired a car from Giant, and spent 3 lovely days touring, again found the people to be warm, friendly and kind, and just had a fantastic holiday. Would definitely come back here.

We stayed on the 20th september for a week, and had a fab holiday. We stayed as a family with a 3 year old, and as this was a last minute holiday in the sun before the Winter sets in, we didn't expect much from reading some of the reviews on here. However, as long as you have realistic expectations that this is not a 5* hotel, you will definitely have a nice holiday.
Positives: *Fantastic splash pool area for children
* brilliant location right next to the most beautiful beach, which was calm and shallow for little ones * an excellent selection of tavernas * excellent kids club

NEGATIVES: I REALLY HOPE THE HOTEL AND THOMSON HOLIDAYS TAKE NOTE OF WHAT I AM GOING TO POINT OUT BELOW TO SAFEGUARD THE FUTURE OF THIS IDEALLY SITUATED COMPLEX: THIS IS PURELY CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISISM AND PURELY ON A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT POINT OF VIEW.
* investment is desperately needed for apartment bathrooms: they are dated, smelly, look dirty because they are so old.
* investment required in updating bed sheets and towels, they looked around 20 year old and didn't look clean because of this
* investment required in purchasing new beds, very hard matresses, not ideal!

apart from the above, we had a fantastic holiday, bearing in mind we went to thomson sensatori back in June, there was a lot to compare, however, when balancing up the cost of the holiday and the actual poolside facilities, it really was a lovely holiday and we would definitely go back.
I only wish they take note on the above to ensure they improve on the brilliant facility they have, as the above negative points are the only things that let it down.

also the lookie lookie men, did drive me crazy by the end of the holiday, some were very pushy and did come around the pool next to the beach which is the furthest they ventured. I did get fed up of saying no. up to 4-5 times a day to each one of them.

Don't take any notice of reports about stray dogs, there were a few but none were aggressive or pestered anyone

best place to eat: paradasiako (not sure if spelled correctly)
