Stayed here for 2 weeks, the hotel is fantastic got everything u need for the perfect family holiday... Had a couple of rubbish weather days, but the entertainment team were great at doing activities inside, like jiant jenga, connect four, and other things. Food is great value for money, family of 4 would average at 35 euros... Which included drinks, water park was fab.. Kids club kept my eldest entertained and now he wants to become a kids club rep. Lol. All in all this is one of the best holidays i have ever been on.. And would book again next year if they put price down, cost an extra £600 plus pounds. :(

Reviewed May 28, 2013 via mobile

We stayed for 2 weeks at this hotel in a 2 bedroom apartment with a 3.5 year old and a 8 month old.

I hope this review is useful to anyone thinking or are actually booked to go.

What we loved about this accommodation is everyone is in the same situation with young kids running around and the reps are wonderful with children and adults alike. Thomsons have created a holiday which meets the needs of families giving them different facilities to use if you want to.

For the kids
The kids clubs and crèche are great our daughter loved Tots and our son went in the crèche once and I felt really comfortable leaving him. We didn't book the crèche before we went but I believe it is cheaper to do this than pay in resort. However a 2 hour session was 11 euros and he got a free t shirt which was really cute.

There is a soft play area for under 3 year olds but lots of kids up to 5 played in there which I think was fine as it is similar to those at home.

The play park was great and well maintained. The splash park was fun but our 3 year old was a bit frightened of the water shoots although other children similar ages loved it. There is a supervisor in there but I would always supervise as a parent.

The entertainment team do a show for the kids at about 08:20 pm which was great fun. Interactive and also dancing. Thomson the Dog is a big hit although I found him a bit cheesy (but he isn't there for me!! :-))

Pools

The main pools are quite noisy from the entertainment team at certain parts of the day but you have a choice to use the pool near the sea front where you will find it quieter. They are there to make your holiday more fun but only if you want to participate. They are all lovely particularly Johnny and Boysey.

Yes the sun beds were all taken by 9 most mornings with towels and no occupants but we didn't let that stress us. Throughout the day they can become vacant so we would grab one or we went ti the beach, it's more peaceful there.

Shops
Food is more expensive than home in the shops example pasta in sauce 2 euros 60 and chopped tomatoes 1 euro 20, so if you are going to cook over there I would take some things in your case.

Take extra nappies, wipes, baby milk and sun cream as you can pay triple the costs for the same products as home.

Soft drinks are 2.50 in restaurants. Ice creams 2.50 from snack bar. We started to buy large bottles of pop to share by pool.

Rooms
We had a two bed apartment and there is no living room. It's a kitchen diner, bathroom, two bedrooms and a large balcony. It was more than ample for us.

Room was clean and bedding chamged twice a week. we gad a sea view which was amazing. We didn't bother with a safe or air con which are charged at weekly rate of 50 euros. The reception recommended opening patio doors at night and leave shutters locked so air can get in.

There is a hair dryer in the room and towels are provided.

Beds are on the hard side but pillows were really comfortable.

Tv channels are BBC World and a religious American channel!

Night time
After kids show there is bingo which is a laugh and then some sort of show. Again if its not your thing then you don't have to go there but it can be a right hoot. It's located in the lower floor below reception.

A cocktail is 5 euros with imported alcohol. Ouzo is 2.50.

Resort
The resort of Alykanas is lovely with plenty of places to eat which have reasonably priced food and most have children's play areas which means you can relax whilst waiting for your food without the kids playing up. Our favourite was La Caretta which served the most amazing Greek food and we were always given free ice cream and cakes with the bill.

Memories is the restaurant at the edge of the resort and we went following the matradee giving us a leaflet on he beach. It was a bit of a let down for us personally but this may be because it was early season but the coffee shop next door which us part of memories was amazing and well worth a visit during the day with freshly baked cakes and ice creams.

The Indian Chinese restaurant was nice with a meal deal for 2 priced at 22 euros.

Bonkers bar, Ammos and Dilema bar well worth a visit. Dilema plays sports and has x box, mini golf, play area and other things to entertain.

The pool snack bar at our hotel we found over priced but next door at the Alykanas Beach was far better and you are always welcomed there. 4 euros 50 got us a massive full English with toast, coffee and fresh orange included.

So much choice you may not bother to cook in at all!

Beach
The beach is amazing, the sea is shallow and warm. We bought a parasol 5 euro and spent much of our days on there. You can rent 2 beds and a chair with parasol further down for 5 euro but we didn't bother.

Overall an amazing holiday which is designed perfectly for families. If you are a couple you may feel overrun with kids so bear that in mind. We will defo return again however next year we are trying the Alykanas Beach as this is cheaper but without the kids clubs and entertainment package. It will be good to compare.

Also we saw 2 dogs the whole visit and they were never an issue.

It was a lovely holiday.

Take mosquito repellent and a stick if medicine as the resort pharmacy is closed this year and its a taxi ride to the nearest one.

Happy holidays

Stayed here in May 2013, rooms are comfortable and well sized, we had no noise as previously mentioned, have to say I was disappointed with this Thomsons hotel as it did not live up to their previous standards.

This hotel is definitely not a 4star more like 3 star, rooms were cleaned daily but towels were only changed once in a full week, even though I placed them all in the bath tub to be changed!

We were short changed by ten euros twice on this holiday so be aware and check your change!

The beach area is nice and very shallow bay for small children, restaurants are plenty between Alykanas and Alykes, best restaurant we found was Paradisico on the main road to Alykes.

A quiet holiday and relaxing, tried the water park which was good and worth attending.

Hope this helps you making a decision.

Room Tip: Try to get a beach view

we have just returned from a week stay at this apt, we took our 4 year old grandson and after travelling around the world to many different apts we found this one up there with the top. the staff are amazing especially the young lady at the pool bar who works very hard and always has a smile on her face, the bar man up the top bar and not forgetting the manageress of the hotel, what a fantastic, freindly helpful lady who will go out of her way to do anything for you, cosy corner is nice for meals and the best waffles and pancakes are available at the NO COMMENT bar just outside the hotel turn left, the staff in there are brilliant. i would def recommend this place to people with young children

Room Tip: all rooms have either pool or sea veiw or both but room 171 is perfect

Stayed here in May 2011 with my boyfriend, two daughters, boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend. Stayed for a week and was gutted when the week was over as it wasn't long enough. This was our first trip to Zante and we love the place. My boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend loved it that much they got married in Zante in 2012. My two daughters love it that much they keep asking to go back to Alykanas Village. The people are great and so is the food.

This was our first stay in Alykanas Village Hotel, with a 5 year old and a 11 month old, it was perfect for us. the pools were not too deep for our 5 year old, & the reps kept him entertained with various activities, althought the one critisism was that they do badger is adults to get involved with alot of the over age 16/18 pool side games, which not everyone wants to do on holiday!
We had a slight problem the first day, about 2 hours after arriving, where the kitchen sink pipe in the cupboard burst, & started gushing with water, everywhere! luckily the thomson rep was still at the desk in reception so she got someone to come try to stop it, but as there was about 2 inches of water, & no maid serivce to clean up until the next day, we had to move rooms. But the lovely Thomson rep did sort it all out & help us with it.
We has a requested ground floor room (because of pushchair), it was a good size for a family of 4, and kept clean. Bins changed everyday, towel changed every other and the floors mopped inbetween. But being on the ground, we did find it was noisy, you can hear the toilets flush upstairs and high heel shoes tapping on floor above!
We didnt see any stray dogs on site, but we did find there were alot of sellers just down from the apartments every night trying to sell you roses & bracelets, they were quite rude so beware!
There is baby food & formula available to buy in the town shops, but it is pricey & only Nestle, vegetable and turkey! In general we found everything quite pricey, but we ate everynight in the various tavernas for around €30, drinks & main course for 3 people. Everywhere had highchairs & were able to provide hot water to warm baby food. Most places have a play area for children.
There was alot of sunbed reserving with towels everyday, the fight began every morning at 8am!
All in all it was a very pleasant holiday, perfect for us, thoroughly enjoyed it & would definitely stay there again, i would recommend it for families with children.
Travelled May 2013, weather was mainly hot, some days 27degrees, but had one rain day, & one really windy night.

Room Tip: all rooms are pool side, ground floor do hear upstairs noise. all good size

This is a lovely location and hotel for a family holiday. Thomson rate it as 4T but it is classified as a 3 star hotel, so keep this in mind when you read some of the bad reviews, it is not a 4star. I can see why Thomson class it as 4T as they have added a lot of facilities such as the entertainment team, kids club, creche and holiday reps service. It is perfect for families with young children and babies. It is right on the beach and has 3 lovely swimming pools. One overlooks the beach and is the 'quiet' pool where you don't have to join in the games and other animation activities. The animation team and staff are really great and lots of fun. Yes, there are activities such as bingo and party dances but you don't have to take part (can't think of anything I'd rather do less than play bingo on holiday!). The creche team were excellent and we left our little one with them on two evenings which was nice for us!

The hotel is very clean and the cleaners keep the apartments nice and clean throughout the holiday with fresh towels and sheets. It is great that they allow extra beds in the rooms (there are 4 in the studios) but this is rather annoying if, like us, you only need two. Also don't be fooled by the Thomson website, if you need a cot you have to contact the hotel to arrange it - it cost us 70 euros for two weeks so if you are on a budget you need to factor this in as it is not cheap. The rooms have been redecorated in the last few years and fitted with new wardrobes and kitchen units, but if you are expecting above 3 star standard you will be disappointed. There is plenty of kitchen equipment but with only two hot plates it is a bit overkill. The bathroom is perfectly adequate but does have the drain in the middle of the floor (which is so often the case in Greece) and it would occasionally back up when draining the bath. We got this holiday very cheaply and it was well, well worth the price paid. I would definitely recommend it.

For some reason everyone reserves sunbeds in the morning which is very annoying. Instead of joining in head over to Ammos Snack Bar by the beach - they have sun beds and parasols on the beach and aren't pushy, just buy a few drinks and you can stay all day (although their food is excellent and very reasonable too). They also play great music. The food at the snack bar in the hotel is also good and really reasonably priced.

If you are taking a baby make sure you take baby food and milk as you can only purchase Nestle baby food out there and it is sweet and sickly. No problem buying pampers nappies and wipes though.

Altogether a really great family holiday. Around half the people we met were there for a second time so I think that speaks for itself!

Room Tip: Almost all rooms have a partial sea view or a pool view.
