“Great stay at hotel Amfitriti”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

We had a very pleasant stay at this charming hotel! Very charming hotel with a wonderful garden and friendly staff. Close to the beach, supermarkets and restaurants. The rooms are nice and clean. The couple who owns the hotel are very friendly and the service is beyond what we expected. Since I was very pregnant at the time, they offered us a room to stay in after we checked out with no charges. This hotel deserves all the stars we can give them!! We can recommend this to everyone who's looking for a hotel with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and a rare kind of charm.

Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a small, friendly hotel in a great location. This was our first visit to Molyvos & we couldn't have wished for more...Molyvos was magical. Situated off the main street & very close to the beach. When we booked the hotel we asked for rooms with balconies & were not disappointed, with a fantastic view of the castle. The rooms were basic, but very clean. Great to have breakfast sat outside & enjoyed the Greek yogurt & honey. Lovely pool & plenty of sunbeds to relax on, in the well kept garden with plenty of shade from the trees. Great food in the many tavernas in Molyvos & everyone was so friendly. We had a fantastic holiday & really look forward to returning to the Amfitriti Hotel.

This a challenging review for me. On the one hand we have come back from a wonderful holiday in Molyvos. It worked it's famous charm on us and we are hooked!

However the hotel could be so much better. Lesvos seems to be struggling to atttract tourists. Every business owner was commenting on how quiet the island is this year. We have never been anywhere in peak season that was so free from crowds. Great for us but not for the locals.

Therefore I hope that the owners of the Amfitriti up their game a bit. Yes I know that people love Greece for its old fashioned charm, that bad plumbing and lukewarm showers are unavoidable but actually hotels elsewhere in the Med (especially Turkey) are improving and Greece needs to keep up.

It has a fantastic location, just yards from the sea with a decent pool in nice gardens (it is scarily deep- not great for kids). We had no problems getting a sunbed although hotel wasn't full. And the sunbeds were a bit knackered- no luxuries like beach towels supplied.

Staff were all very friendly, we enjoyed watching them tend the vegetable garden around the side.

Our room was basic - aircon was extra but had a decent fridge. However why does "small and friendly" accomadation have to mean single hard wooden beds, thin sheets and terrible pillows. No prints on the walls, manky shower curtain? View was great but be advised not all have a balconey.

And breakfast. Ok we are not great breakfast eaters so it was adequate for us. But we were in Santorini and Crete last year and Naxos before that, also in simple Greek hotels and they did breakfast so much better. Every shop was selling local preserves but we got nasty gunky jam in plastic pots, sweaty ham (the cats liked it) - we brought fresh fuit everyday round the corner and had it with the yoghurt which was good! And considering there were never more than 6 couples at any one time at breakfast, why can't they serve fresh coffee and tea!!

So actually a three star place that scapes an upgrade on character and location.

And the town? Marvellous, magical, sublime. Explore the twisty lanes in the old town, stroll to the harbour, snorkel in the bay. Beach is pebbly but fine for carching a tan.

Fab eateries as well- we tried to spread our custom as it was quiet and didn't have a bad meal. Stand-outs- Betty's up the hil with great views and a strong willed lady owner, Le Grand Bleu, Kismet and Captains Table in the Harbour, Ramona and the Sunset Bar by the Olive Press. And of course late night cocktails in Molly's bar!!

Room Tip: Request a balcony or terrace, 204 for sea view

We were fortunate enough to spend a week at this splendid little oasis of a hotel. Set in peaceful, well kept gardens with a lovely pool and great views of the castle, this hotel is idyllic. It is close to the beach and several tavernas and only a short walk into town, but just far enough away that it's protected from the hustle and bustle. Our room had a wonderful view of the castle from it's balcony and it was a delight to wake up to each morning.

A couple of improvements could be made - The room was basic with noisy aircon and the breakfast was very basic and lacked variety. We almost feel mean to mention these points as our stay here was so relaxing and enjoyable in spite of these, but we have to give a balanced view. Would definitely recommend the hotel and hope to return one day for another visit.

After reading all the other reviews on this hotel, there isn't much more I can say that hasn't already been said. Over the last 22 years my husband and I have travelled to many different countries, especially Greece, and I have to say this is by far the best location we have stayed at - a little gem of a place. The location is very peaceful and extremely beautiful. The noisiest thing being the pump in the swimmingpool! If I had any criticism to make it would be that although when we stayed, there weren't that many people staying at the hotel, there wasn't always enough sunbeds for those that wanted them. It wasn't until we had been there for nearly two weeks that extra sunbeds were brought out of storage. Why weren't they out to start with!

Once again a perfect holiday thanks to the Thelpi family for all their help. Very clean well kept hotel just right for Molyvos town and the beach. Good fun watching the squirrels on the fruit trees. The views of the castle at night from the balcony are fantastic.

Room Tip: Castle view rooms are north facing and quieter. The south facing rooms have a little road outside.

If you want a nice peaceful stay with a great pool and fantastic gardens then look no further. OK, the rooms are basic, but this is more than made up by the friendly welcome and fantastic location. The hotel is just 100m from the beach, 250m from the beachside tavernas and just a short walk from the town centre. Molyvos is a beautiful spot, with a fantastic little harbour and a superb selection of tavernas, bars and shops. We ate in several different tavernas and were never disappointed. The only downside of the hotel might be the breakfast. It was pretty basic and both our children choose to take theirs at local tavernas rather than stay at the hotel. However if you can cope with cake, bread / jam and cheese / ham or boiled eggs at least you can eat it in the garden. We would definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone who likes traditional Greece.

Room Tip: Doubt there are any bad rooms, but two or three overlook the pool and must be worth asking for.
