the valley is beautifull peacefull and lives up to there 5* rating. the houses are more than big enough for a large family and are very well equipt. visitors will need a car as the valley is in the countryside and is not in walking distance to any of the local attractions but theres is a heated indoor pool and a very well kept outdoor pool there is also enterteinment at night and a restaurant serving excellent food we really enjoyed our stay and the kids did too its a very child friendly place which is sometimes hard to find in 5* accomadation we would highley recomend the valley cornwall

We stayed for 11 nights from the very end of May into June.
The welcome from reception staff was friendly and they were helpful when we popped in for the odd thing during the stay.
The accomodation is nice, spacious, comfortable, modern and largely clean and well maintained. The beds are really soft which is not my preference but seemed very popular with many reviewers in the visitors book! On arrival every shelf in every cupboard in the kitchen had something on it so we had to re-arrange the kitchen cupboard contents before we could unpack our groceries - this is a tiny frustration but one they could so easily avoid.
There is a lot of open ground on the site which gives it a spacious outdoorsy atmosphere. There is also a very steep hill to be aware of between the cafe/pools and some of the accomodation (low numbers). Another observation on the grounds is the lack of weeding which is puzzlingly inconsistent with the general standard of care and maintenance in The Valley. .
We stayed in no 18, a Gallery villa which overlooks the cafe, pool and playground. This was handy for quick access but problematic on 2 nights when children older than ours were playing loudly directly outside our sons' room until around 10pm. We had to bring our kids up to the lounge to settle to sleep. Other numbers around 18 would have the same issue so try to avoid these if you have young kids and strict bedtimes.
The cafe is presented nicely although the service was varied - never bad but sometimes just OK. It is only open for dinner and the menu choice is small each evening - 3 main courses I think - which is understandable given the relatively small captive market and the location (not conducive to walk-in diners). However, the fact that the same dishes seemed to come around every few days was a disappointment so in the end we ate at the Cafe far less than we had imagined. We popped in just for drinks a couple of times but did not feel so welcome when we did this.
The indoor pool is nice but not big - fine if there are just 1 or 2 families in there but became quite comedic when 5 families tried to share it one afternoon during our stay. The outdoor pool is attractive but it is only heated from "mid June" until some time at the end of the summer so it was totally FREEZING during our stay and therefore not used.
The location of the Valley is good and bad depending on how you look at it. It is out in the countryside close to a non-touristy village so there is certainly an exclusive feel - no holiday hoardes here. You can get to a lot of the main tourist attractions in South Cornwall within about 30 minutes by car. However there is nowhere to walk to.
They have got a lot of the big stuff right at this place, especially the accomodation. Attention to some details could make it really special.

Room Tip: I would ask for a high numbered cottage past the Cafe if we decided to return.

Thanks for your comments....and your suggestions; it is only through feedback that others can find out how great The Valley is and that we can make the right improvements for you.

You are completely right about the beds. They have Millbrook handcrafted, pocket sprung mattresses, made exclusively for The Valley and we consistently get fantastic compliments about their comfort!

Thanks for the comment about the kitchen cupboards; that is something we had not thought of before and has not been previously mentioned but we are now going to rearrange a few things so this should no longer be a problem. The minor frustrations are still important to us!

There should not be any noise in the area overlooking the pool after 9pm and we have now introduced a check to ensure that disturbance is kept to a minimum whilst still allowing our older younger guests to have a good time! If you have any older children, numbers 17 to 20 are perfect because you can watch your children playing whilst you have a glass of wine on your balcony!

Cafe Azur is for the exclusive benefit of Valley guests and as such we do not look for walk in trade. The benefit of this is that our wonderful Head Chef Chaz is always delighted to cook for guests personally so any of your favourites can be created whenever you want them. The difficulty is that, as all of the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, the menu is always more limited when the number of diners is less. Menus are more extensive during busy periods when guests numbers are higher. Cafe Azur is currently open from 9am 'til close so you can have a bacon baguette or coffee and Danish before you start your day right up to coffee and liquers to finish it.

Thanks for the feedback and we hope to see you again!

This was our second visit in 2 years and we chose to stay in a "Beacon" accomodation. On arrival the staff were very welcoming at reception and provided us with information relating to local area and the complex. The thing that brought us back was the cleanliness of the accomodation and modern fxitures and fittings. The Cafe Azur serves excellent food and drinks (approx £60 for family of four inc bottle of wine) and Craig ans his team have good themes (ie magician night, tapas, posh fish and chips etc). The swimming pool (ideally would be a little bigger) and changing areas are very clean and there is plenty on for the kids during the holiday weeks (tennis lessons, kids club etc) at very small additional costs (ie £2-£5). The surrounding areas provide SO much to do. Reccomendations include: 2.5 hour cycle trip from Bissoe Bike hire (5 mins away from complex) to Devoran and back, trtip to st Mawes using the King Harry ferry (great for the kids), Hollywell Bay theme park (you only pay for tokens that you wish to use on certain rides - £40 for family of 4 should suffice for a good day). It is only approx 30 min drive to beaches on the North Atlantic Coast and there are so many great ones (Perranporth, Polzeath, Portreath to name a few). We ate out at the Old Quay Inn (Devornan) and ay Harrys Bar in Falmouth - both were great. The only small negatives were that there were a number of light bulbs not working in our accomodation and there were complaints that the children who were playing at the kids playground situated outside Cafe Azur were being too noisy at approx 10pm and we were subsequently told that the playground should close at 9pm although no signs mentioned this. Would suggest that anyone with very young children (ie under 4) should stay away from accomodation overlooking the swimming pool and playground in childrens holidays as the kids do love it there and can make a bit of a noise so not great for trying to get young ones asleep nearby. All in all, another great time. You certainly feel you are at a exclusive 5 star complex and the kids will always make friends. It's a great alternative to Centre Parcs. Instead of the great swimming complex at Center Parcs, the Valley provides you with more exclusivity, superior accomodation and has 'outside' attractions like beaches, theme parks etc. Brilliant time and we have made some good friends.

The literature says that The Valley is 5* and we would agree that it is a very solid 5* holiday complex.

The cottages are finished and furnished to a high standard. Cleanliness was excellent. Cafe Azur was very good indeed. The food is well cooked and value for money. The front of house staff were very accommodating and happy to adjust orders. The Reception staff were very welcoming and keen to help.

The facilities are very good although ventilation does need to be addressed in the indoor pool and the gym equipment needs a thorough clean.

What would make this top end 5*? The gardens are well maintained but could do with much more planting in them - too much bare soil. Top end 5* places have gardens full of flowers throughout the season.

We would very much recommend The Valley to others. It is not cheap but worth it.

I stayed for 4 days with my wife and dog in the Croft which was a pure delight. They even put up a xmas tree in the lodge. Great accommodation and relatively comfy beds (2 singles zipped together). We had 3 bedrooms which we didnt use to its entirety.
The lodge is very cosy and extremely stylish and frankly amazing. Although the cafe & restaurant were shut, you could still order 24 hrs in advance with delivery to your lodge. We didnt take up this offer. Ate at the Carnon Downs Inn (5 min drive) which was good value & the Norway Inn (10 min drive) expensive but mitchelin star level tasty grub.. There is a nice forest walk within the Valley grounds which my dog loved as well as a pool and jacuzzi.
Would go back again, though I doubt we would get the same deal of £300 for 4 nights.
Thanks to Becky & Megan for their hospitality too.

We stayed here for four nights and had a fantastic time! We stayed in a Haven 2 bed cottage which was spacious and very comfortable.

The cottages are very well equiped- they even have plastic plates for children. They supplied a travel cot and highchair free of charge and both were in lovely condition. The beds are very comfy and we all had a good nights sleep. The bathrooms were both en-suite and both full bathrooms and not just a showerroom.

To be honest you could move in here and all you would need is your clothes. You don't need to worry about cooking as there is a restaurant on-site (closed Wednesdays) and a table table restaurant at the top of the road (very nice!) There is a chinese take-away company that delivers right to the door, good food but very big portions!

The complex is very safe for families, it is gated and you need a code or keytab to get in. The outdoor swimming pool looked very nice and the indoor pool was lovely as when we were there we were often the only ones in it. There are dvds, books and games to borrow in the reception and loads of information leaflets and they offer discounted tickets to local attractions. The complex is very quiet and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing break!

I would have liked it if the swimming pool was open earlier in the morning as I would have enjoyed an early morning swim. It is open 9 til 9 which is not too bad. Also the cafe is only open in the evenings and the menu is very limited. It would be lovely if it was open in the morning for breakfast.

We will definatley be returning- I just wish I lived here!

Thanks for a lovely review which we would hope is more representative of most guests experience.
Thanks also for the comments on Cafe Azur and we are now committed to trying the breakfasts again! We've tried before with no takers but we're going to try something different now to see if we can persuade some of our guests to at least try the Cornish breakfast speciality of hogs pudding! Julie

We've just returned from 7 nights at the Valley. We stayed in a Beacon cottage. It was lovely and quiet but very dark - you have to have the lights on all the time. Also, the one we stayed in wasn't actually detached but semi-detached. However, we liked the cottage because it was at the end of the site and so didn't have any passing traffic. We were a little disappointed with the outside space next to the cottages because the traffic passes right by it so we couldn't play outside with out 16 month old daughter.

Apart from the dark the cottage was lovely. It was spotless and quiet. It was our best nights sleep away from home ever.

We went to the Cafe Azur a couple of times. Once to eat and the food was disappointing and another time for hot drinks and the hot chocolate was inedible. Really it's not great and there are far better places around the area.

The swimming pool etc is a bit basic and really only suitable for playing with kids. I tried to swim but it's too small to get any exercise. The changing facilities are crowded if anyone else is there. The gym is tired and a bit tatty too.

Last year we went to Gwel An Mor in Portreath. That was much more like a 5 star resort with fantastic facilities, food, lodges and views. In comparison the Valley was disappointing.

We are always pleased to have comments, good and bad, as its the best way of knowing what we get right and what we get wrong; its always better, though, to get them whilst our guests are still with us. This way we can try to put any of the not so good ones right before you leave us!

This cottage is in a quiet area, as requested, and is a firm favourite with many of our guests but, whilst there is no passing traffic, we do have more suitable ones with no passing traffic AND a nice flat grassy area for little ones to play on. Our cottages are very all individual in style and location and if you tell us your preferences when booking we can make sure you get exactly the one you want.

Cafe Azur, which is our Bar and restaurant, normally receives glowing reports as Craig, the Manager, and Chaz, the Head Chef, will always go out of their way to ensure that guests have a great evening whether its for a special meal or simply drinks.

We are deighted to hear that the cottage was spotless and quiet and the comment on the beds is the most common one we hear from our guests....the only problem is, they are so comfy that you never want to get out of them! Julie
