“What a fantastic hotel!”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Well what can I say we have just returned from a wonderful stay at Renieris hotel. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. It was clear to us that the family all take great pride in their hotel from keeping it so lovely and clean. The rooms were cleaned regularly and kept spotless throughout our stay. We stayed in room number 24 which had great views! The pool was beautiful with stunning views of the sea. Also on our last day we were given a bottle of olive oil as a gift to take home, I felt that this was a really lovely touch. Nothing was to much trouble for the family to help us with from organising our airport transfers and giving us towels to borrow on our last day so we could pack ours (very sweet). We feel that this is far more than a 2 star hotel! I will finish this review with a big thank you to the lovely Renieris family for a truly lovely holiday!

We had difficulty finding the hotel by bus from Hania, but would have completely avoided our difficulties if we had known this: the bus doesn't stop at every stop; you have to request the stop for Cretan Dream Royal - the Renieris is just a few doors down from there.

While many reviewers have noted the 100 or so steps between the beach and the hotel, I wish I had known that, between the beach and the steps, there is the busy, noisy main road. It didn't really decrease our enjoyment of the location, but it was fairly jarring when we first arrived.

The rooms were plain but of a decent size, and it was nice to have a balcony overlooking the pool. The bed, however, is my main reason for not rating this hotel more highly. While it is true that European beds tend to be much firmer than in North America, and while I am very cognizant of this when travelling, this bed was extreme. I had difficulty sleeping and woke up with sore hips and shoulders every morning.

Breakfast was average at best - basic and somewhat boring.

The pool was the best part of the hotel by far. Towels, lounge chairs and umbrellas were provided and, as long as you were on the side of the pool away from the road, the view was very nice.

The beach, however, was a disappointment - it was somewhat littered, and was bordered on one side by a graffiti-covered wall.

All in all, I would not return. If looking for a relaxing beach getaway, I would hope for a more comfortable bed and a better beach.

Dear Mrs Alanna 83 ,
Thank you for your recent two nights stay in our hotel and thank you for your time for reviewing us .

We are so sorry to hear that unfortunately you didn’t enjoyed your stay in our hotel .Since tripadvisor gives the opportunity to hoteliers to post a management reply , will do so.

Mainly I would like to emphasize your comments regarding our breakfast .Although not very varied ,it is included in room rate and it is offered for free .Our small breakfast buffet consist of products of good quality and many of them are fresh and homemade (as our oil cake). Also most of them,if not all ,are from the local market. Many reviewers already mentioned our quality products and the freshness here in TA . If somebody is looking for American type buffets,he will be disappointed as you did .

From the moment that a solution was available for the firm bed (soft topper ) but never was requested or reported to us , we do believe that you reviewed us very strictly . . .

However we will keep the tough work and try harder this first poor review that we received ,since we are on TA ,to stay lonely !!!

Thank you again for your time and all the best !

We have just returned from a week at the Renieris Hotel Kato Stalos and I really wanted to say what a fabulous time we had. If what you are looking for is a quite, traditional, relaxing, chilled place to go where nothing is too much trouble, then you have found it. If what you want is the hustle and bustle lifestyle, bars, Sky Sports and nightlife galore, then DON'T bother.

First the Hotel -immaculate!! Although registered as a 2 star, forget this rating. The room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. Breakfast was continental but plenty of it in an all you can eat style. Great quality food every day. Pool was perfect - no rushing down to put towels on sunbeds as there was ALWAYS plenty of spare ones. Pool bar with reasonable prices (2 euro for a bottle of beer, 50 cents for 750 mil water). Even the food you can buy at the poolside was reasonable and good quality. WIFI worked everywhere - rooms, poolside etc. Views are to die for. Giorgos and Stella are the perfect hosts in every way. Extremely friendly and will do anything to help. They even arranged a private taxi from the airport - 50 euro return.

The area - very quiet. The hotel is at the end of Kato Stalos. a 10 minute walk to the left as you look out to the sea takes you to the centre where you will NOT find a single Bar - just Tavernas. Continue walking for another 30 minutes to find Agia Marina - a little larger than Kato Stalos but again no traditional Bars. A further 20 minutes takes you to Platanius. Again slightly bigger but no Sky Sports!! You can then walk all the way back on the beach. You will have seen in other reviews the 96 steps leading up/down from the hotel to the main road. Not recommended for the elderly or unfit!!

There's nothing much to the right although a 15 - 20 minute local bus ride (every 15 mins costing 1 euro 60 each) takes you to Chania. Worth going for the sake of shopping and a bit busier but again, not bar after bar as you may expect from a larger City.

Places to eat - I would recommend Markos and Marias. You will see Marias on the corner, 10 mins walk from the hotel. Turn left at Marias and follow the hill up and round to the right. Keep walking for 10 minus and you will find Markos.

All in all a fantastic Hotel and venue if what you want is tranquillity, peace and quiet. Anything more than that then go to Benidorm!!

My wife and I enjoyed a short stay at this inexpensive but very clean and well-maintained hotel just a few minutes outside Chania. The hotel sits on a hilltop with a splendid view of the bay. It has a very nice pool but you can also walk down some stairs and across the street to a public beach. The hotel is a few blocks from an active strip of stores, restaurants, and hotels that line the beachfront. I would recommend getting directions from the hotel owner (a friendly fellow who speaks passable English) because the GPS on my rental car was terrible (took us to similarly named street in downtown Chania!) and the windy road up the hill to the hotel is not on the map. The owner/manager gave us great tips for restaurants (don't miss Markos!) and road directions for sightseeing.

Room Tip: This is a small hotel and almost every room has a great view. Just ask.

We are half way into our week at Renieris Hotel and having a great time. The rooms and hotel are very clean with air conditioning and balcony on all rooms. The pool is lovely and has not been busy so far. There is a pool bar that serves well priced drinks and snacks, all served by the friendly hosts who can not do enough for us. Breakfast has fresh fruit and bread every day with Tea and Coffee on tap all day. The beach is just accross the road and short walk to the main strip for many resturants and small shops. The bus stop is out side as well and runs every 15 mins to Chania. Would love to come back!
