Upon ariving at Caldeiras & Vulcoes Restaurante, We first notice how modern and sheik the exterior is. Inside it's spacious and elegant. The staff are professional and eager to please, We were very well attended to duritring our vist. it was also nice that the staff spoke fluent English. I would recommend that you start with a 'fino' local draft beer, and fresh goat cheese to tempt your appetite. As for your entree, I would recommend a fish or beef dish, as the Azores features superior quality fish and beef. Or if something more locally traditional tempts you, inquire about the 'Cozido' a dish cooked soley using the heat of the volcanic ground, and is a Must try for anyone visiting Sao Miguel! The prices are very reasonable and our dishes were well prepared and delicious. From start to finish our total experience was a 5 star! I will definitely be back to Caldeiras & Vulcoes Restaurante on our next Vistit.

“Dinner at Calderias & Vulcoes Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

During our first visit to Furnas we were recomemnded to try the "new" restaurant in town. We enjoyed the meal so much we ate there each night of our stay and enjoyed it every time. Picking a different meal and type of meal, the owner and family made us feel welcome. So much so it didn't feel like you were eating at a restaurant...you were in someone's home.
The restaurant is located near the hot springs on the east side of the town. Paulo and Viktor made us feel at home every night, and a special thank you to their mom and dad who made you feel very welcome also. It was like meeting long lost cousins. The food is all local and the seafood is fresh. Make sure you try some of the local Azores wine with your meal. You wont be dissaponted. Highly recommend the restaurant.

“Best food in Furnas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2012 via mobile

I stopped in at this restaurant and was amazed by the quality and freshness of the food, particularly the seafood. We sat outside on the veranda overlooking the village which was wonderful. We started with drinks that our waitress Elizabette recommended... Then fresh goat cheese with pepper sauce, tuna with onion, local herbs and a hint of mayo. We ordered fresh silver have, lightly breaded with fresh local vegetables, potato and salad. Local wine added a nice touch. Everything was amazing. Finished the dinner with local pastries and an aged whiskey. The best meal I've had in Sao Miguel. I found out it is owned and run by a family... The two brothers Viktor and Paulo ( chef) and their mother & father make everything special. I highly recommend this restaurant.

“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2012

This restaurant is actually located in the town of Furnas - on the eastern side of Sao Miguel island. It's located on a main road - above a bar and cafe also owned by the same family. The restaurant is very nicely decorated - and has a wide menu of fish and other items typical of food from the Azores. The fish is fantastic. Some days they offer sushi - I'll bet it is great. I was there in the middle of the week so the restaurant was calm - and I had time to talk to the two brothers who operate the restaurant. Viktor is the waiter and his brother Paulo is the chef. Besides the great food - they have an excellent wine and port selection - and the prices are very good. The next time I return to Furnas - I will definitely return to Caldeiras & Vulcoes!
