“Great value for a hearty meal”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

Order a cozido for two (ie, one €12 portion for two, even with solid appetites); and this is the best value meal you will have in Furnas. O Miroma has a cozido of equivalent quality - I doubt anyone would distinguish one from the other in a blind tasting. No-frills decor and service.

“Stew made in the ground, served with a nice company”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

At Tony's you can experience the famous "cozido das Furnas" which is a pot of different meats and vegetables cooked in the volcanic soil. You can see the people removing the cozido from the ground, on the north margin of Furnas Lake, and then trace it to your lunch table at Tony's. Prices are reasonable and food is really traditional. The staff and owner are restless in assisting all customers, both tourists and locals. There's also a chance to eat by the balcony if you're a small group/family and get some sun tan during lunch.

“Great cozido - with the locals!”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

I'd read that Tony's is the place to go for authentic cozido and I was not disappointed. I think I was the only tourist in the place on a Saturday afternoon. Cozido is a very heavy meal - so I'd recommend it for lunch - and it will also be fresh - as it is cooked in the morning and then transported back to the restaurant for the lunch crowd. With bread and small carafe of wine, it's fantastic. This cozido has everything: beef, pork, sausages (including blood sausage), kale, carrots, rice!

“Good cozido, even without reservation”
Reviewed January 15, 2012

Even without reservation, we had great cozido (the local stew cooked in the hot steam springs of the area). It was made fresh on the day we went there, and came to the table instantly after ordering (some other restaurants re-heat it and you never know from what day it is, also making the dish lose its distinct taste). Contrary to most other restaurants, you have to explicitly order appetizers (e.g. a couvert of cheese that is served without asking most of the times at other places). Service was very attentive, and the restaurant is visited by locals, especially since a classic village bar is located right next door, run by the same owner. Just change over there for a liqueur or drink after your meal. Overall: Great food, great service, and very reasonably priced. Rustic interior. Don't be taken aback from the plastic-laminated menu that's on display at the door, or the simple appearance of the restaurant from the street. It's absolutely worth visiting, and the food is great!
