“beautiful property directly on the coast”
Reviewed June 6, 2014

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights after having traveled 3.5 hrs south from Lisbon. My initial impression of the general area of Albufeira was that it is very built up with many many many apartments and hotel complexes..majority of which are not on the beach but within maybe 20 minutes walk or a 5 minute drive. In comparison this property however is lovely..situated directly on the coast overlooking the waters below. We stayed in a very well kept and clean 4 level villa (#11) which offered a modern kitchen, lower level living room, rear outside private balcony overlooking the ocean, bathroom with dual shower/tub and double sinks plus a large bedroom equipped with a french balcony towards the front of the property. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and the villa was cleaned every day. The resort during our time there was reportedly at 65% capacity and a waiter told us that it would jump to 90 % the following week. Overall the complex is well maintained, clean and relatively quiet with sun washed white buildings ( yes - some needing a touchup of paint) that clashed with the brilliant blues of the cloudless skies, and blue ocean waters. Man ... I have to say it was hot here!! and so many an afternoon we spent lounging by the large pool which offered cooling respite from the heat and sun which didnt so much burn as it seemingly baked you. Mornings were spent lying about on the beach which is approx 15 minutes downhill from the property and /or beachcombed and walked through many a tidal pool looking for shells or rocks. A person can walk literally for miles here but you have to bear in mind the tides. The golden cliffs intermingled with spoardic green palm & other trees against the blues of the sky and water were just remarkable; distinctly different from other areas I have seen in Europe. I was surprized at how inexpensive it was here to live, with the price of food and wine being really affordable..It was funny to note that a large bottle of beer fetched 1.80 euros while a small can of coke 2..In the immediate area was every imaginable type of restuarant and supermarket a person would need. We did take away food from the onsite restuarant once and found it to be okay (?) On one day we drove to Sagres and went through the fortress, taken back by howlling winds, seaspray in the air and the site of local fishermen standing at the edge of 200 foot cliffs looking down on raging atlantic swells, swigging on a beer waiting for a fish to bite..not the place to hook a big one just saying! Recklessly in my opinion the odd tourist also placed themselves outside the short fence for that perfect shot or cliffedge conversation..not something I would consider at all....for anyone interested this is one spot worth visiting. I would definately recommend Villas D' Agua to others travelling to this area of Portugal. As stated comparing to many other apartment complexes in this area it is a short walk to the beach and offers expansive views of the ocean. It is more than likely that later in the year as the heat and sun turn up even more, so too would the people coming here.

Room Tip: 11 was a good choice..wifi is available up by the pool and lounge areas..

Stayed in villa 31 last week. Stunning view over the coast and pool to side. Spacious and well equipped with everything we needed but I do agree it is a bit tired and could do with updating. Set in a pretty quiet location the villas are about a 5 minute walk from the supermarket and has access direct to the beach from a little trail at the bottom of the complex. Pool was generally always quiet during the day but pool itself is dish shaped so below knee length around the perimeter and shoulder height in the middle, bizarre. Would definitely stay here again, If they spend a bit of money on these they really could be amazing.
Free wifi in reception, restaurant is cheap and worth a go one night too.

I would tend to agree with reviewers that say this complex is in need of an update. We found paint peeling off the walls of our apartment and the lounge furniture was also a bit the worse for wear. The apartment itself was plenty big enough with two double bedrooms and two bathrooms although I did find the mattress on my bed to be rather on the hard side giving me back ache by the morning. Both bedrooms and the lounge had air conditioning units which we used for heating as it was chilly in the evenings. I would think they are a necessity in the summer months.

The reception (open from 9am to 8pm) was spacious with nice comfy chairs to sit on. A good job really as this was the only area where wi-fi was available, but it was free. The reception staff were always polite and helpful but we did wonder what would happen if you arrived after 8pm to check-in. We left before they opened in the morning and were told to simply leave our key in the apartment.

The pool was nice and clean and the grounds were also very pleasant to stroll around. The beach is a short walk down some fairly steep steps but well worth it, sandy and great for the kids. Going back up can be a little tiring though!

The complex has the Tangerinne restaurant which does the best ham and cheese toastie I've ever had - we heard others saying the same thing. The evening menu is rather limited but the food we ordered (I can recommend both the steak and the pork) was nicely presented and piping hot, although it can take a while if they are busy but we didn't mind the wait, we were on holiday after all. It's a 10 minute walk down to the beach front where there's a good choice of restaurants. Our favourites were Tamarillo (nice food, cheap beer) and Pizzaria Fratelli for a nice pizza but expensive drinks. Most restaurants have free wi-fi too, just ask for the password. Our favourite Chinese restaurant was Cozy's, a few hundred metres from the large Supermarche on the main road. Excellent menu choice, friendly waitresses and very good quality food.

We both agree we would stay here again, mainly due to its great location and beautiful beaches. As mentioned it is a steep climb down to and back up from the beach so anyone with mobility issues may wish to bear this in mind.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to overlook the sea but if you want to avoid the duplex apartments (with interior s...

This resort was part of a Merit Travel Longstay ( Feb/March 2014). I have to say that the Villas D’ Agua is definitely NOT A 4 STAR place to stay. I would rate the apartments 2 star at best. The apartment units are all EXTREMELY TIRED, and furniture upholstery was faded, worn, and DIRTY (covered in spots of dirt). The beds were very narrow, with the springs poking through the mattresses. The bedding was worn, tired, and the whites looked like they had been through too many washings-not very appealing. The pillows were very worn and very flat. The drapery was dated in desperate need of a cleaning. The shower water had difficulty adjusting to the correct temperature as the fixture itself was worn and its attachment to the wall was loose. I felt I was in a worn out University dorm. The lighting inside the apartment is poor—when you walk in you feel like you are in some hovel despite the balcony and patio doors. There needs to be lighting over the kitchen table, for example, and more lighting generally. The whole place does not give you a very great feeling—very bad feng shui, I’d say.

The only redeeming factor of our apartment was the million dollar view of the ocean! We did luck out in getting ocean front, with the best view possible! )This was because our group of 13 were the only ones in the entire resort for the last weeks of February)

The first days at the apartment we called for repairs to the sliding doors (which would not lock and the repairman had to come twice), repairs to the dishwasher (which would not go through the cycle), and a replacement of the coffee table in the living room which had the arborite stripped right off all the way around its edges and looked like it needed to be thrown out. (Which it was). As we left, the kitchen sink plumbing had sprung a leak underneath the sink. The oven was FILTHY—We smoked the place out the first time we used it to warm up a frozen quiche. Needless to say, we did not use the oven again.

The whole of the VIllas D’Agua complex needs repainting—there is paint chipping off everywhere off all units and balconies. Our balcony had worn out , faded, dryed out plastic chairs and table, with no cushions and no chaise lounges in which we could get comfortable to read a book. Pretty hard to read a book on small hard plastic upright chairs.

We were very disappointed that the restaurant on site at this resort WAS CLOSED FOR THE WINTER.

**The only redeeming quality of this resort property is its front office and bar staff. They were extremely helpful and accommodating.

The ‘cleaning ladies’ did not really clean. Our bathtub never got cleaned the whole month we were there. As mentioned, the oven had not been cleaned over several tennants, it was that dirty.

Bottom line: I would not stay there again. And I think Merit Travel should re-consider using this property in the future unless major renovations are done to this complex.

Room Tip: There is no good unit in this place as all require renovation. It appears that nothing has been don...

We were here in mid Feb to mid March, staff is excellent, rooms are self contained with washer, dishwasher, stove, fridge and microwave. Everything is close by, shopping, beach, and restaurants. Only downfall is terrible internet service. Would stay there again.

We disagree with comments below - we arrived back last night - ALL the local bars/shops/restaurants were open, and we tried several of them. Food and Drinks very reasonably priced and superb!!

As regards the villas themselves -

The reception staff were more than helpful and very knowledgeable. Yes we did had a CRT TV but we could get several channels that we could watch, mainly CNN, FOX Movies and Hollywood. But who wants to spend all evening watching TV when there is so much beauty to take in. There is a DVD player that can be hired but we did not bother with that. The weather was glorious - wall to wall sunshine. The kitchen had a full sized fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine - plenty of crockery. Could have done with a potato peeler though. And yes we did have to walk downstairs for the ground floor patio but this was no hardship. The local beach was just a few steps down a slightly steep path but what a sunset!! Just a few metres along the main road and access the village itself, although there were lots of local shops and restaurants along the main road itself. Daily topping up of loo rolls and mopping floors and making the beds, a real treat. The on site restaurant the Tangerinne was very good value and was very enjoyable and the staff were very nice and helpful.
Wi fi in reception area but nice comfy chairs to sit in. Pool bar was open most of the time and if closed the staff got drinks from the Tamgerinne bar.

Complimentary toiletries at start of stay. Masses of storage space - never seen so much.

All in all a very lovely holiday and we shall be returning.
