Description: Cacto is located in Odiaxere, a few minutes drive outside of Lagos, on the EN 125 towards Portimao. Al fresco dining on our terrace during the summer months and in our cosy inside dining room next to our log fire during winter.

Even though Cacto is a short drive outside Lagos, it's worth the journey especially for it's cosy atmosphere in the winter months. Service and food is good. However my only gripe is the offer of convert and amuse bouche. Both come with a cover charge but this isn't clearly stated when serving at the table. You're given the menu and wine list, offered water and left to ponder. You place your order and shortly after the convert and amuse bouche arrives. On this particular visit the amuse bouche was one calamari ring and a small drop of bottled sweet chilli sauce. Surprised the chef was happy to present this to a customer. Couvert of flavoured butter, hot rolls and olives- delicious. It's only when you receive the bill do you realise there's a charge. When taking your order you should be asked if you would like the couvert, amuse bouche is usually complimentary. .nonetheless everything else about Cacto is wonderful and this certainly won't deter us from visiting again.

Dear Gibson1530,

Thank you very much for your comments

I am pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and appreciated our food and service.

It is a common practice in Portugal that the couvert is chargeable and this is actually specified in our menu.
However I do apologise if this has not been made clear to you at the time your order was taken
The amuse-bouche is indeed complementary and should some of our clients choose to opt out from the couvert they will still be served an amuse-bouche

Thank you again for your feed-back which helps us with our continuous improvement policy and I look forward to welcoming you again during your next visit

Very best regards
Jean-Michel

We were looking forward to visiting Cacto again, under new management since last year. It began well with a delicious amuse-bouche of tuna tartare. The gravadlax that followed lacked any taste. (To prove the point 48 hours later with some supermarket salmon and a Rick Stein recipe grabbed off the internet we had produced our own lovely gravadlax.) Unfortunately, the following Cacto beef en croute was disappointingly overcooked. The puds were very good.

Dear seadog229,

Thank you very much for your feed-back.
I am really sorry to hear that our Chef's recipe of the Gravadlax was not up to your liking.
With regards to the beef en croute, I can assure you that this is not our usual standards and we are sorry that it did not meet with your expectations.
I am pleased that you appreciated our amuse-bouche and desserts and I would be more than happy to welcoming you again in order to show-case to you our habitual high quality of cuisine.
Thank you very much
Best regards
Jean-Michel

Fantastic evening at Cacto. The food quality is first rate, the meats and home made sauces are of a very high quality. The ambience of the restaurant and welcome from the owner and his team was really lovely. So impressed, it really was exceptional.

This restaurant is run by two Frenchmen and front of house is by a Scottish woman, so it is International. Quality is excellent, prices on the higher side for this part of the Algarve, but the menu range is worth it. Can be popular so consider booking. It is conveniently on the Main N125 and there is road-side parking outside, or nearby.

Usually a cactus means a Mexican restaurant, but Cacto is by no means a Mexican Restaurant. We stopped in by chance when the Cactus outside caught my eye. Eclectic menu with interesting choices. We both chose Thai curry items which were very good! Service was excellent. Lovely atmosphere with pleasant decorations.
