“A beautiful place”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

For foofoo_11 to say "it is an estuary" and that there is "nothing to do but play golf" is odd, and sad, and just wrong. I went there a few months ago. We found ourselves in this magical place. There are turtles bobbing up from the streams, flamingoes, exotic looking birds I have no idea of the name of yes, on the golfcourse, weher we sat in a hide and watched for ages. There are wild flowers everywere. A long narrow bridge crosses the river (sorry, estuary) where men bend for hours digging for clams. The beach on the other side is simply too stunning for words. Empty and pristine as the Atlantic crashes in, although I wouldn't recommend swimming in it in April as it tossed me about and spat me out in a quite dishevilled state!
This place is so much more beautiful than anywhere else along the Algarve. And I haven't even got started on the Ilha deserta!

I've been going to the Quinta do Lago hotel since I was a tiny baby and have always loved it. The staff have been lovely from the beginning, with lots of the older ones still there. The hotel itself is very outdated though. The rooms and restaurants are in big need of an update. Having said that, the hotel is in a wonderful location, only a few minutes walk to the beach, with beautiful views. If you are looking for a traditional hotel with good friendly service then definitely go here but if you are into modern touches this may not be right for you.

My husband and I love to travel. We have experienced all sorts of trips and hotels, but our time at Portugal‘s Algarve is truly unforgettable. We stayed at the Quinta do Lago hotel for an extended weekend and arrived in Faro on a Friday morning. After a short 20 minutes transfer from the airport to the hotel, we were welcomed by the great staff of the hotel. Their reception was just as friendly and pleasant as Algarve’s weather. We spent a lot of time exploring the hotel’s beautiful surroundings such as the Ria Formosa nature park as well as the beach, which is within a short walking distance. My husband and I had a neat hotel room with a great view over the lagoon and we were very satisfied with its cleanliness and amenities. Every morning, we had a superb and fresh breakfast at Quinta do Lago’s beautiful terrace. There, you can also enjoy a delicious cocktail while watching the sunset within this peaceful atmosphere. All in all, we had a lovely time at Quinta do Lago and we will certainly return to that place!

The wonderful position of this hotel cannot be beaten by any other in Quinta do Lago. We have been coming to this hotel for almost 20 years and whilst we accept that it could do with a general makeover, the food, the quality of service and the friendliness of the staff who have all been here for many years far exceeds the more modern and rather glitzy hotel up the road ! We would urge you to visit this hotel and are sure you will not be disappointed.

The setting of this hotel is superb and thankfully the hotel is designed with plenty of terraces to enjoy the view over the lagoon, beach and sea. Very Portuguese in style with extremely comfortable and spacious bedrooms - I slept with the doors to my balcony open at night and was completely undisturbed which is always a bonus. The staff were extremely friendly and experienced and the evening meal was delicious. The hotel is located within the Ria Formosa Natural Park with an abundance of birdlife - from flamingos to spoonbills and the weather in March was gorgeous with temperatures around 20 degrees Celcius. There are no less than 7 golf courses on the doorstep and the area is fantastic for cyling as quite flat. A short walk across the bridge takes you to the beach which is completely unspoilt and home to Gigis - a well known fish restaurant which I will endeavour to visit when I next visit. I will be back!

Definitely a 5* hotel and worth every penny. The location is superb with fantastic views from sea view rooms. Good facilities for little ones, with a children's play area; tennis courts; outdoor and indoor pools + Jacuzzi; table tennis; golf nearby; great walking area; amazing birdlife (binoculars needed + a book to identify what you see!); stunning beach and pleasant February weather.
The staff are lovely, very courteous and helpful and always a smile. I would heartily recommend the hotel and location, worth going back in warmer weather!

Room Tip: Sea view is worth the extra, with views of the estuary and garden + sea. Only Downside is the rather...
