We stayed in Casa da Dina in january for a couple of days, and absolutely loved our stay. The bed was perfect, with crisp coton sheets, room was very comfortable and beautiful Beside being spoiled for breakfast with fresh products, cakes, freshly squeezed juice, we were given great advice as to where to roam in the area. We truly enjoyed visiting Alentejo at such a peaceful time of year. The hosts were simply perfect, making us feel at home, kind and available. We'd recommend this house without any hesitation!

Casa da Dina was just one of those places where you feel so lucky to have encountered. They welcomed us like family. One of the most memorable times of our trip to Portugal was dining with our hosts and their friends until the wee hours of the morning. I wish I was Portuguese so I can enjoy the simple things in life like this (good food, good wine, even better company). Walter, I will always remember the difference between sadness and unhappiness!

Walter & Dina are an incredible couple with 4 beautiful rooms in their house in Malavado, a couple of minutes away from breathtaking beaches of Cavaleiro or Carvahal in the heart of the Natural Park of the Costa Vicentina.

How can I best describe the fine hosts you will find in this place? Dinah is a woman of the world, an excellent cook, generous, intelligent and super fun. Walter is an artist from Uruguay, a man of culture and knowledge and of an unspeakable sympathy. They have moved from Washington DC to the Costa Vicentina a couple of years ago.

The decor is of an amazing and welcoming simplicity, linen and pure cotton towels and an excellent breakfast, different every day, which leaves us wanting to stay another day to taste the delicacies of the day! If given the chance, do reserve one night for dinner in the house and ask Dinah to cook the delicious cod fish with greens or ask Walter to make an "asado" from a juicy uruguyan meat accompanied with an excellent wine from Alentejo. Try it and then give me your opinion! ;-))

We have covered several beaches, all in a perimeter of about 10 kms, Zambujeira, Almograve, Cavaleiro, Carvalhal and Alteirinhos. We visited Vila Nova de Mil Fontes, a fishing village with a beautiful castle on the estuary of the river Mira. There are boat tours that go up the river that I would strongly recommend. We loved the walk on the cliff next to the Cabo Sardão, with incredible panoramic views. Ask Dinah and Walter about the restaurants in the area, you will not regret!

Thank you Dinah and Walter, I can only add that I had an unforgettable week and I will definitely return!

I can only agree with the other reviewers.
If you are looking for a beautiful place in Portugal's Alentejo, away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded beaches, this is the perfect spot. It's not the cheapest, although it's not that expensive either - and you get excellent value. Here, you can relax and unwind - take long strolls along the countryside, or borrow the hosts's bike and ride along the many paths. Ask hosts Dina and Walter to tell you where the "secret beach" is. It is an absolutely fantastic "hidden" beach (another reviewer posted a photo here in Tripadvisor under this property). But please do us all a favour and don't post its coordinates or how to get there - just go there by yourself, and let's keep it our secret. You will have the beach virtually to yourself, and it is one of the most beautiful ones I have seen here in Portugal.

Dinah and Walter are fantastic hosts, and are attentive to all your needs without being intrusive. Breakfast is when you get up - whenever that may be. And what breakfast... probably the best in Alentejo. And make sure you sign up for one of Dina's legendary dinners as well!

The rooms are beautifully furnished with art and rustic furniture. The beds are comfortable and wide. There is even free WIFI available - just in case you can't completely disconnect (like me) but are still looking for an oasis of tranquility.

One thing is important: you will definitely need a car when you stay here. The place is really in the middle of nowhere - in a tiny village - it all adds to the charm! Having a GPS to find the place is a good idea as well - but the GPS will only guide you to about 300mt of the place, because the access road is not marked on it. Having said that, I had no problems finding it.

So, I can't think of any better place to stay if you're either out for a getaway, or want to share some time together, or want to enjoy the beaches without the regular mass tourism at the prime time of the year... although I would definitely recommend this during the "quieter" seasons of the year as well.

I'm definitely going to be back!

We booked at Casa da Dina following a recommendation from micasaenlisboa. We were Dina's first guests of the year. The B&B was a little hard to find without satnav, but it seems well known in the local village bar, and it only took another 3 minutes after we'd asked for directions. The room was simple but very clean, stylish and comfortable. The breakfasts were great (ask for her special spicy eggs if you go). Choice of restaurants in the evning are limited and you will need a car to get to them.
