“The falls on your doorstep”
Reviewed September 14, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Lovely house complex with apartments. Clean throughout. Friendly helpful staff from the start. Excellent evening meal at set 20 euros. You can walk to the falls directly. Yvanna the manager was very helpful.

“Clean and neat, friendly staff”
Reviewed July 25, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed here with one night with three kids to visit the Plitvice Lakes. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from entrance three of the lakes.

Everything is nice an clean, though not luxurious (missing wifi and airco, though it was not hot, still cheaper hotels do provide the amenities). It all feels fairly new.

We had dinner in the gazebo in the garden next to the playground. Food was pretty good. Nothing fancy, but all wel prepared and fairly (though not cheap) priced.

There is a large playground for the kids, a soccer field, etc.

Service was very friendly.

“Perfect Location, acceptable room, very peaceful”

The property is definitely in the perfect location. You just walk 5 minutes down the road from the property and the street ends. To the right is the official entrance to the park where you need to go in to buy a ticket. Walk 5 minutes down this road to get to it. From here there is a ferry that will take you to the heart of the park across one of the lakes (or you can walk but probably at least an hour to get to the heart of the park by foot.)

Alternatively if you go to the left, there is a path beside the road that will take you to the most stunning views of the lakes from high above them! Absolutely amazing views and it appears most people are not aware of them and literally 10 minutes from your door! You can go to these view spots without a ticket but just remember if you keep following the path that you started by going to the left, eventually you enter the park proper but there is nowhere to buy tickets for a long, long way. So be sure to go right first so that you can buy your ticket to the park and then backtrack (unless you want to risk getting caught in the park without a ticket).

Continuing on the path (that you started by going left) will take you into the park proper, where you will start by walking past the tallest waterfall. From there, just follow the path and you can again walk all the way to the heart of the park along a nice path beside the lake or just walk to the first train station and it can take you there. Walking from the property to the heart of the park probably takes a good hour and a half going to the left if you don't take the train for part of the trip. But it is all quite beautiful along the way.

I started my journey by going right and taking the ferry, then walking all around the many lakes, then walked all the way down towards the tallest waterfall and back home along the path by the road, but you can certainly do the trip the other way around if you like and start with the stunning views and then come back by ferry. Either way is beautiful.

The property itself is very quiet, being out in the country, the rooms a decent size - a small living room, a kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom. There are nothing fancy, but comfortable, clean and a reasonable size. There is a breakfast buffet which is not huge but is reasonable and the (it appears) one woman who runs the place is quite friendly and nice. For dinner, there is a separate building about a ten minute walk away that they will send you to that never had more than 3 or 4 tables of guests (no-one but hotel guests eat here as you are out in the middle of nowhere) but the food was decent. I had a wonderful grilled trout one night which was done to perfection.

Overall I would say this is a great place to stay, just for the easy to walk to access to the park and the stunning views from above the park I mentioned, which probably no-one but the locals or people staying out here would even be aware of. And you do have access to breakfast on site and dinner nearby, if desired.

My only complaint would be that I was driving up from Split to the property which google maps can not map properly and it took me several requests by email to get driving directions to the property. After I arrived, it appeared the slowness was due to literally one person managing all the guest relations on the property so she was probably swamped trying to manage it all. She was very sweet and nice though and I did get my directions, finally, before leaving Split although only a day or two before (despite requesting them weeks before). Make sure you ask for them/get them early! (Initially I was given directions from Zagreb).

Amazing to be so close to the park and to just be able to walk to your hearts desire.

“Awesome access to the lakes but the apartment was tight for a family of 4”
Reviewed August 13, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Our hosts were very welcoming. We received excellent service throughout our stay. The dinner was excellent.

The apartment was very conveniently located a short walk to the lakes.

The apartment was clean and had a good sized bathroom. But we found the living areas and bedrooms were small for our family of 4.

The directions provided by our hosts prior to our arrival were excellent and aided by well positioned sign posts.

We noticed that Wi-Fi, while available, was very patchy and we didn't have much connectivity for any reasonable length of time.

“Idilic accommodation, slightly hard to access via public transport”

We were very impressed with the accommodation at Etno Gardens. The buildings are set in lovely gardens with stunning views. Inside the rooms were traditional yet modern. It is really easy to walk to entrance 3 of the national park (about 10 mins) and very close to the large waterfall. Etno gardens provide evening meals which looked delicious, however we were travelling on a but of a budget and found the €18 charge for dinner a little steep. Luckily there was a restaurant which serves spit roasted chicken for €3 right at entrance 3 to the park with stunning views over the lake.
Although the appartments are in an ideal location for getting into the park, they are tricky to reach via public transport. We travelled by bus from Zagreb, the stop is at entrance 1, this is roughly 20km to the accommodation, we ended up getting a taxi to and from the bus stop to the room.

I would def recommend Etno Gardens if you are travelling by car!

“Etno Paradise”

We had a two night romantic stay as part of our travels in Croatia. The place is easy to find just off the main highway between zagreb and split. We drove but there are buses to the lakes from most cities...etno gardens can be easily reached on foot from p3 in the park or entrance 1.

We received a friendly welcome and were shown to our apartment which was stunning. Very private, cosy and clean. We spent the rest of the day walking in the stunning national park located just 5 minutes walking away.

We were well looked after in the evenings from our hosts. The food was home cooked and served outside in lush surroundings. A hog spit roast on night one and a deer ragu on night two. The local wine at just €10 a bottle was delicious. The 3 course evening meal was just €15 per person. A beer was €1. There really is no need to risk other eateries that are a drive away in the area.

Overall a great place representing outstanding value with a real family/homely atmosphere. If you plan to come here you will not be disappointed.
