Description: Located in the heart of water village Rastoke (100km from Zagreb, 30km from National park Plitvice) surrounded by the rivers Korana and Slunjcica, tavern "Pod Rastockim krovom" offers homemade cooking based on traditional recipies. We offer local specialties such as "proja"(special bread from 5 types of grain - corn, rye, mullet, barley and wheat) and polenta. We also offer fresh trout from our fish pond (in many ways), fresh soups, homemade noodles/gnocchi, various salads, meat and vegetarian dishes, pancakes, doughnuts, strudal and much more. After a nice meal we recommend a walk on our property where you can see 3 biggest waterfalls in Rastoke named Buk, Vilina kosa and Hrvoje, mill from the 18th st., traditional washing mashine, Winnetou totem, ethno collection and a cave. We are excited to welcome you to our small piece of nature heaven.

After a very busy and active day at the Plitivice Lakes (and some other attractions in the area) we just wanted to relax and enjoy good food at a cozy restaurant with a beatiful setting and this was just it! The food was very good - we had a local dish based on gnocchi with cheese and mushrooms with season salad. The service was equally satesfying. The restaurant is also etno museum and a great spot from which to enjoy beatiful waterfalls and nature. My daugther loved it!

After a lot of years of passing through Slunj, finally got ourselves an opportunity to stop and do a little sight seeing. Why did we choose this particular tavern? Simple - they do take credit cards.

So here we are, finally in the heart of this charming place with waterfalls and sounds of water all around us, impatient to get down on all the dishes we can eat - and we can eat allot, cause we just arrived from long trip. And in this kind of surroundings, they definitely serve the old school food, made out of nothing but domestically grown provisions which taste just as they should.

Well the answer is "No". They don't do that. Meals are pretty straightforward, made-up kind-of-type, although plentiful. Nothing that would awaken the gourmand in you. We've got our dishes, eaten them, and right along forgot all about them. And all that for a (un)fairly high price, too.

Conclusion: Will I ever eat again here? I sincerely doubt it. Sorry tavern. Better luck with some other reviewer.

Unfortunatelly, I am not able to write full review as we were never served so the food part will be missed. But let me write about service. We sat at one nice table. There were two more tables occupied (so they were clearly open). After half of hour waiting we left. Nobody came to take an order or went to ask other two tables whether they need anything else. Unacceptable.

Nice little village with small waterfalls ending in ponds and creeks. Truly great place for a romantic walk ending in a fish (trout) feast at this tavern. It is only open till 9 pm but it is worth timing right to get the fresh cooked, grilled homade meals with its great view!

We visited Rastoke on a way from Plitvice to Zagreb. We ate trout in the restaurant, grilled and one filled with mushrooms, season salat, bean salat, potato salat, extra mushrooms and home made bread. The fish was very, very fresh. It was very tasty. I liked salads as well but for my taste the season salat and the mushrooms were the best choice. We had a local draught beer it is acceptable for a Croatian beer. I loved the food, but for my taste coffee was not tasty. The espresso was to big and weak, it does not have much in common with Italian espresso.
I would always return there for lunch. The nature and the fresh tasty food are really inviting.
