Our group consisted of 4 recently retired American couples. We wanted a base to explore the Istrian Peninsula. This villa was probably not the best choice for that purpose. It would be great if you are still working and primarily want to relax by the pool and enjoy the Croatian countryside. The local people are very nice but Rakalj is very small and pretty remote. Only one restaurant nearby and it was closed during our stay in late September.
The house itself is spacious, lovely, and , with one exception, has a well equipped kitchen. The exception is the coffee maker. We are from The Pacific Northwest and like our coffee. The coffee maker took 1/2 hour (really) to make a single small pot of coffee. Because of the naturally occurring minerals in the water, a cone with filters and an electric boiler would be a much better arrangement.
One bedroom is located above the dining room and accessed by a spiral staircase. As an architectural feature it is very cool but not so great if you are a little unsteady on your feet.
The house was very clean and the people that came to meet us and give us the keys were wonderful.
In summary, I would definitely recommend this villa. It would be ideal if if you plan to relax, enjoy the pool and cook meals in the villa. You certainly can take day trips out from here but it will take more effort than something a little closer to the main population areas.
