Owner description: Teacher and owner Oona Giesen is recognised by the IYF (International Yoga Federation) and the Dutch society of yoga teachers VYN (Vereninging Yogadocenten Nederland). She started with Iyengar Yoga 44 years ago, around 1973, when she was eight years old. Oona grew up with yoga, and started teaching Iyengar based Hatha Yoga 24 years ago, in her mothers yoga school in Amsterdam/The Netherlands, and in her own yoga school on the island Paros in Greece. Although she has a slightly softer approach, you can feel the influences of B.K.S. Iyengar in her classes. Her classes are down to earth, no chanting, but back to basic yoga, with physical exercises (asanas) and breathing (pranayama) and meditiation. Oona became expert by experience in managing backpain with yoga since she broke her spine in a car accident in 1998 and since then recovered herself extremely well with her yoga. The yoga courses will be held on Paros, one of the most beautiful islands of the Cyclades. The Cyclades are a group of islands in the Aegean Sea, between Athens and Crete, known for its natural beauty and spectacular architecture. Paros is also the most central located island of the Cyclades and ferry boats go daily to different islands.Piso Aliki is a quiet bay, just behind Aliki, a small fishing village at the still quiet south-coast of Paros. There are several lovely beaches close by, a few taverna’s / restaurants at the seaside and beautiful sunsets to enjoy in the afternoon. No nightlife, no discotheques, just calmness and tranquillity…..except for an occasional village party which are realy nice.Piso Aliki and yoga, the perfect combination to really unwind from your daily stress, relax and enjoy life.

So good was that yoga week on Paros my friend Sue and I have booked again this year. Oona is a very intuitive teacher and her classes reflect her thoughtful personality. Fab yoga on a wonderful island. What more could anyone want?

I've been on Oona's one-week yoga course in Paros twice, but always try to attend her classes whenever I visit Paros - if there isn't a one-week course being run there are normally morning or evening classes available. When I signed up for my first course, I was concerned that I wouldn't have any energy left for anything other than yoga. But that wasn't true. The classes are enjoyable and energising - suitable for bother beginners and more experienced students - and Oona's years of experience and in depth knowledge and expertise, combined with the friendly and comfortable atmosphere she creates, are not to be missed! But there is still time to enjoy the gorgeous beaches and food and really feel like you are on holiday too!

Oona is an incredibly experienced, talented and intuitive yoga teacher and able to cater for all levels of yoga student - from complete beginners to very advanced. Her classes are calm and attuned to the level of each individual - so that every student is working hard to the best of their ability. The course includes plenty of hours of yoga, but is structured to allow students to relax on holiday and enjoy the delights of the island too. The yoga shala is in a beautiful traditional whitewashed Greek building only a few hundred metres from the sea and has a wonderful calm atmosphere.

I attended a course in June last year and enjoyed it so much I returned in September.I can't wait to go back!

Paros is a beautiful island and peaceful little Aliki village is particularly special, with several lovely beaches within walking distance and plenty of small and good quality restaurants to choose from, mostly right on the waterfront with spectacular views - especially at sunset.

Oona runs fantastic and regenerative yoga workshops in Paros every summer. She is a brilliant and passionate teacher able to share her deep yoga understanding with a natural and intense approach.
What is extraordinary of her teaching is the great care and attention that she gives to each student, encouraging the improvement of the yoga practice as a process in relation to the level and potential of each participant .
The yoga experience with Oona was so good and regenerative for me that I joined her workshop twice!
She is also a very nice person always available to give pratical suggestions and information about the island of Paros to all and often to share her great experience of the island organizing boat rides and daily excursions to beautiful unspoilt beaches.
The school of Oona is immersed in the peaceful natural landscape of Aliki , a typical tiny fishermen village located by a romantic and silent bay with beautiful beaches ideal for those in search of peace and relaxation. Along the port there are characteristic local taverns which offer a variety of traditional dishes of the local cuisine at a good price, including a fantastic freshly caught fish!
I recommend to all fans of yoga, good food and nature not to miss this regenerating and revitalizing experience!

I have had a week course with Oona twice. The courses are very intense, but done in a relaxing atmosphere suitable both for beginners and trained. Oona is an excellent instructor adapting to individual needs and levels. The premises are perfect for yoga and the surroundings are breathtaking and perfect for a relaxing holiday. I absoluter recommend this place.
