“Idyllic”
Reviewed August 13, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We were drawn to Suna because it looked beautiful and characterful in the online pictures. We weren't disappointed.

The grounds
The house itself is full of character, with lovely stone walls and wooden features. The main entrance to the ground floor is just down a few stairs from the pool under a supported roof. That wouldn't be ideal for people with mobility problems, but is fine otherwise. It was a great shaded place to eat or to sit in the evening. As it was lower than the pool and grounds themselves, roofed and the whole property surrounded by a wall, it was very quiet and we had no fear of disturbing others nearby with music or talking at night. This area was tiled with earthen tiles and easy to keep clean. The pool was underlit and was a really good size, considering that it had to accommodate a family of five. There is a sheltered stone base bbq round the corner and there is plenty of space for kids to play within the grounds. Both metal gates at either end of the grounds could be closed and locked and the wall is about 5 feet high the whole way round, giving a feeling of security for smaller children. There is a covered area for the car at one of the gates, so the car was always shaded when parked.

The property
The house itself is divided into ground floor and upper floor which is entered from the outside. The ground floor has a living area and open kitchen area with a bedroom at each end, and a toilet / shower room. As our youngest child needed to be with us, we slept on the ground floor. The ground floor isn't air conditioned but, due to the thick stone walls, remained cool in the day and was comfortable at night. The living area has sofas and TV, speakers for audio input and a PS3. We didn't use the TV but the music output was very good. The kitchen is open to the living area, separated from it by a breakfast bar / units. It is well supplied and the family have clearly kept the knives in good condition, reflecting their restaurant background. The upper floor is reached up several steps from the outdoors, which could be difficult for people with reduced mobility. It has its own little kitchen, but then opens down a few steps into a lovely open area that takes up most of the upper floor. There is a TV there too. It is air conditioned, so although it warms up in the day, it is easy to keep it comfortable. The floors were old wooden slats and that, along with the stone walls and decor, gives it a quite a special atmosphere. It would be good for older kids or adults in an extended family. Two younger kids could sleep there if adults were there.

The area / access
A car is essential, as Sinozići doesn't not have any shops or a bakery. It is accessed via a little road. The house is pretty easy to find and the little village is full of character as the style of the houses are traditionally built of stone with surrounding stone walls and tiled roofs. The road linking the village to the main road is small and windy, but visibility is good. There are small roads into the low hills behind the village that are good for cycling. Luka arranged bike hire for our boys and had them waiting for us when we arrived. We flew into Venice and then drove to Sinozići. That took 2 1/2 - 3 hours but if you fly into Pula airport it is only 50-60 mins away.

Shopping was about 15 mins ago by car. There are several supermarkets in Poreč where we could get everything we needed. We were only 15 mins or so from the coast and smashing seafood restaurants and yet it only took a similar amount of time to get to the hills to Motovun and the centre of the truffle industry. That meant we could easily try the two different styles of cuisine.

Communication and support
Luka waited for us until after dark even though we had been delayed and was very patient and welcoming. The Maleš family were overall very helpful indeed. Luka and his Mum Sonja speak excellent English and his Dad speaks some English, but also Italian and German.

Ulixes
We ate at Ulixes for lunch and dinner. This is the the restaurant of the Maleš family. I have posted a separate review of it in Trip Adviser. It is well worth a visit.

Overall
We really enjoyed this holiday. The house and it's grounds were great and Istria has a lot to offer in terms of places to see, things to do and smashing food. I'd definitely recommend this property.

Liked best: Traditional character of the property and the pool area
