Casa Bella lived up to its name. It is an old house, beautifully restored, on a hillside with great views down to the sea. There are two terraces where we spent many happy hours relaxing, eating and drinking! Volissos is only a 3 minute walk away, and there are shops, a bakery and tavernas. We had some excellent meals at Mavro Provato. The house is spotlessly clean And Ioannis is the perfect host - he gave us a bottle of wine, fruit and soft drinks on arrival and some delicious cakes when he came halfway through our stay to change sheets and towels. Chios is a lovely island: the mountains and seascapes are spectacular. We liked Limnos, with a good taverna on the beach, and the nearby cove Lipsa was perfect for swimming. There,s lots to see in the north of the island: we didn't have time to explore the south. Nea Moni is wonderful. In September most of the Greek tourists had gone and we didn't meet any foreigners. If you want a restful holiday in wonderful surroundings based in a lovely house, then come to Casa Bella!
Spent two gorgeous weeks in this quiet place in the unspoiled, typical Greek village of Volissos. Ioannis, our host, provided us with everything needed (and so many small gifts like fruits & wine as a welcome). The house itself is well equipped and in perfect, clean condition with stunning views from the kitchen-veranda & especially from th upper terrace. Wonderful sky and stars at night,- so relaxing with a glass of ouzo - "Tetteris No5", of course - after having cruised on the beautiful island with it's wonderful beaches and villages. Very few tourists, but so many impressing places to see:
We recommend a walk through the "Kambos" with the "citrus"-museum, visiting the quiet Chios-"Castro", Nea Moni of course, Avgonyma and Anavatos, the mastix-area of course, Kardamila, the many, many unspoiled beaches such as Trachili and Didima, apart from more touristic places like Vroulidhia in the south or Mavra Volia, although both of them absolutely scenic and a must!
Great meals after a five minutes walk from the house down the hill at "Giaouzaki's", fresh food (try octopus "xydato",- excellent!), very kind people and great, local open wine at a ridiculous price ... (including free wifi-access for your daily "whatsapp"-report ... to your family;-))
Having been traveling to Greece for more than 35 yrs now, we felt Chios being one of the least known islands, friendly people with great hospitality everywhere (if you take you some time and are open to communicate ...)
Once again thank you to Ioannis for an unforgettable stay and all his support & hospitality!
