“Great pool areas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

A good number of pools in the hotel area. Recommend to spend some extra and book a room with a private/swim-in pool, those are very nice. All-inclusive works very nicely, good service and plenty of drinks and snacks available at all times.

There are a wide variety of evening activities especially for kids.

We travelled a couple of weeks before the hotel closed down at the end of October and were concerned at some of the negative reviews the hotel had received.

Firstly on arrival we were upgraded to a suite at reception. The room with both a mountain and a sea view was better than we could ever have imagined. The room was spacious with a massive balcony. We had an amazing shower and the room was kept spotless. Tea and coffee making facilities were refilled each day and with the suite we got fruit and a bottle of wine onarrival. There was also water in the fridge which was replenished by the maid.

The hotel was not full so we cannot comment on problems people had in summer with children and other nationalities. There were children and there were Russians and Scandinavians. Neither caused any problems.

The food was excellent. There was choice enough for everyone although on occassions it lacked 'bite' and a complaint made by other guests that it was not always served hot seemed to work the trick. The catering staff were first class and always eager to help. There was no lack of smiles from them even though they were at the end of a long season.

We were on 'all inclusive' and found no difference in treatment between us and other guests who were on bed and breakfast and paying for drinks. The pool bar staff where we drank most of the time were friendly and always had a smile for customers. We were impressed by the range of drinks included in the all inclusive. There were various cocktails and liqueur coffees as well as bottled water. The hotel coudn't have done more. All inclusive lasted till midnight.

Gill the Thomson rep was always available and very helpful particularly with regard to local transport and bars etc in Platanios.

The only 2 slight negatives were the entertainment and the beach. The entertainment team worked tirelessly during the day to try and get people involved and with the reduced number at the end of the holiday and the age range they did a good job. However at night there was virtually no entertainment. One night was bingo! Perhaps this was the season end. The beach was easily accessable but there were some sizeable pebbles at the waters edge so not ideal for most people and this is not the best or safest sea to swim in.

All in all though this was a very good hotel and one I would have no problem in recomending or going back to

Room Tip: I would not pay the extra for a swim up room in late season as often the pool is in the shade and ma...

This is a Thomson platinum hotel and having stayed at other Atlantica hotels this one was comparable with the Sensatori in Crete (except this time we didn't get an upgrade and there is not the choice of restaurants). However, the beach here is nicer than the Sensatori in Crete (no road between) and no problem with sunbeds or parasols which were available to us. The drinks were only local but the wine and beer and cocktails were very drinkable and no problem with bar staff or queuing. The restaurants for lunch and in the evening offered a huge amount of salads and alternative dishes per night, with one roast meat each evening. The only negative point regarding the restaurant is at this hotel standard I would like to be escorted to a table which was cleaned and prepared in advance. Although there was no shortage of tables there could have been more staff clearing tables and more ambience and was disappointed that they didn't enforce the evening dress code (where were the candles on dinner tables?). Sometimes we had to wait for our selected table to be cleared and laid. The rooms were lovely and the beds oh so comfortable (dont believe the review about the beds and pillows - never had a bad nights sleep at the atlantica). Overall for October the weather was better than expected, the hotel better than expected and I would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room across the road away from the main pool area, it was lovely and quiet and...

I have to disagree with previous reviews and say I was disappointed not by the children, but by the behaviour of the adults in the hotel. We went on 25th September for 2 weeks so there weren't that many children about. Each meal time was running the gaunlet of whether you could get your plate of food back to the table without having someone barge into you who was hell bent on getting their meal. I dread to think what it would be like in high season. I look forward to dressing up a bit in the evening but couldn't believe it the requirement of men to wear long trousers wasn't applied in the evening.

We also found that as the holiday went on we were having to search around for a clean table that had been relaid with cutlery. On numrous occasions we had to ask the staff to clean a space for us, which they did in no time but it wasn't the standard of service we expected.

If you do go to this hotel, take the time to get the bus into Chania. The bus stop was a short walt at the end of the road and the buses ran every 20 minutes or so. For 2 euros each, each way it was a bargain and all the conductors spoke English to a high standard. It definitely broke up the holiday for us and gave us a couple of excellent meals rather than the ok food that was served in the restaurant.

Also be warned, when the rep calls it the 'noisy pool' believe it! On the couple of occasions that we ventured that way the music was very loud but also the reps and the pool bar were playing two different cds within about 10 meters of each other. The quiet pool has very few sunbeds and we weren't fortunate enough to ever find any available.

All in all it was ok but for £1800 I expected better and won't be going back. If you can get this as a last minute deal then go for it but I wouldn't pay full brochure price for it.

Room Tip: Double check the details of the swim up rooms. We had a ground floor swim up room but shared it wit...

Just returned from two weeks at the Atlantica Creta Paradise on the wonderfully sunny Greek Island of Crete. The hotel proved to be a great find. Helpful reception staff greeted us and we were speedily checked in. Rooms were spotless and modern with excellent bathrooms and were cleaned and tidied every day - in actual fact the whole hotel complex is kept in pristine condition as the cleaning staff seem to work from sunrise to sunset - and they smile, taking an obvious pride in their work!
The restaurants served an amazing array of food - including themed nights - which was always fresh, well presented and varied, watched over by a very efficient and professional Maitre D and his assistant Tassos. The waiting staff were friendly, well-trained and charming, particularly Kostas and Giorgios who were brilliant with everyone, even the smallest children who were welcomed and well catered for.
Our package was 'all inclusive' and we made good use of the bars! Again the the staff were polite, friendly and well trained and were keen to chat and make their guests feel welcome and valued - thanks to Kiki and Eleni in particular. The cocktails and the lager were of a very good quality but, the 'local' red and white wines were a little bland, but were still quite drinkable - perhaps this is an area for improvement?
Plenty of sunbeds available at all times by the pools and on the beach - the beach is excellent, but take your beach shoes as you will need them to get in and out of the sea!
We hired a car from the hotel reception and had day trips to Elafonisi Beach, Panormos and Falassani - all will remain long in the memory for their charm and beauty. A 2 euro bus ride will take you to Chania the most charming and picturesque town in the whole of Crete, full of narrow streets and alleyways and wonderful cafes, bars and restaurants - seek out Xani by the old Jewish Synagogue and Taberna H BAEIAIKO on the outer harbour - both super!

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview

We went on this holiday on a recommendation from a friend, but then got worried when we saw some of the negative reviews on tripadvisor. I honestly don't know what people are complaining about - we travelled with two children and stayed in a one bedroom swim up suite. Our friends stayed at the same time and stayed in a family room with a sea view. All of the staff were helpful and friendly, our room was lovely and clean, our bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in on holiday. We visited during term time in May, and the hotel was probably about half full. The pools are great, the whole complex was very clean, we always had enough sun loungers, and we were always able to sit down and eat whenever we were ready. The thing I was most concerned about before we went was the food, and I needn't have worried. I'm not a fussy eater, but I don't like eating over processed, reheated food. There was none of the here. There's a different theme for food every night so you're no always eating the same thing. The breakfast buffet was lovely - everything for a full english, plus pastries, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, cheese and salad. Hard and soft boiled eggs also available every morning. The toaster was a bit tricky though, but hardly worth getting upset about! Lunch was available in either little snacks from the pool bars, or full lunch buffet from the main restaurant - every day was different, but the choice was vast - soup, freshly baked breads, salads, hot meat, cold meat, kebabs, quiches, pasta, rice, chips. Dinner was always fantastic - huge buffet of greek standards such as feta and salads, kids buffet of chips, fishfingers etc, an then numerous dishes from whatever the night's theme was - italian, chinese, carribean, seafood, etc. The drinks include wine and beer which you help yourself to, or spirits and cocktails which the bar make for you. The evening entertainment was serisouly cheesy, but the kids loved it - kids entertainment at the sister hotel next door at about 7pm was in German but bizarrely our kids still liked it, then English speaking mini Disco and party with Funny the Monkey in the main hotel 8-9pm, then adult(ish) entertainment afterwards. Our room was very close to th amphitheatre so when we sat on our balcony we could hear all the evening entertainment which some nights was mildly irritating but you couldn't hear it in the room. The beach is entirely stones, so we didn't really use it. It's a decent walk up to the Platainas, and the main strip there is very "Brits Abroad" but ok for a bit of shopping. The walk's tricky if you've got a buggy as it's a main road that you have to keep crossing to follow the path. Gerani had absolutely nothing open when we were there except for the weird pet shop. You can catch a very cheap bus to Chania from the main road - worth a trip it's a lovely city. Overall, a really lovely, relaxing and very easy holiday for those with young children. I would recommend it to anyone with a family - I wouldn't recommend it to couples without kids though

Room Tip: If you want a quiet night, stay in the main hotel

having read the last few reviews we travelled as two adult couples with a little trepidation. We arrived on 2nd October to a busy airport, Gillian our rep was very calm and directed us to our coach. Arrived to another busy scene in the reception. We booked in very efficiently by friendly helpful staff. Upgraded to a fantastic swim up suite. the hotel grounds were very well kept and always being tended to. Our pool, shared with three other couples was cleaned every day.
The restaurants were of a good standard and plenty of food was always available, the bars were also well stocked and attended by very friendly staff. Rooms cleaned thoroughly daily.
The Stone Grill is worth a visit excellent A la Carte menu.
The beach area was cleaned every morning and the beds are plentiful even though a little tired.
Travellers must be aware that this hotel is a family hotel also. yes there were some noisy children on occasion during the day around the family pool area, but what do you expect when they get exited on holiday. we found no problems at night however. DON'T LIKE KIDS ? Go to an adult only hotel. We had a great time.

Room Tip: We had the swim up rooms number 2038 and 2044 brilliant.
