“Cozy Yugoslavian hotel”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

We stayed here two nights in September. The room was very cozy and just enough space for everything you need. The view from the balcony was outstanding. It is a huge complex with hotel rooms, apartments, restaurant (which we didn't try), bar, pizza place etc. Every evening in the pizza place you can dance with live music and lovely lady serving you cold drinks. The beach is very near, just a couple of steps down the path. Also trogir is just 5 min. away with a car. All in all nice hotel if you are not looking for luxury.

Great night club, but very ugly rooms and dirty bathrooms. Food is kinda weirdly slimy. Do not eat the eggs or stale cereal... They say it's renewed, but that's not true. When you enter the building it looks very modern, but, believe me, it's NOT!

we stayed here for 5 nights in September 2012 and found it to be a great hotel and quite reasonably priced. It is a large complex set in pine trees on a hill above Medena beach. Our room was a good size, comfortable clean with a good bed & nice bathroom, it had been refurbished, the room had a fridge & safety deposit box. The staff were pleasant and professional; breakfast was satisfactory for a 3 star hotel. The best things about the hotel were the wonderful views from the balcony of the Adriatic sea and numerous islands close by (most rooms apart from the bottom floors had a sea view). Also the hotel had a great location with easy access to Medena beach via a steep path with step (approx 10 minutes walk). Medena beach was lovely with plenty of safe places to swim (but pebbles so take plastic shoes ) and numerous cafes, restaurants and bars. It was very easy to get to Trogir by water taxi, which cost only £1 - £2.

We have just returned from a week staying at the Medena Hotel in Trogir. Having travelled a lot, sometimes in challenging and developing countries such as India and I can honestly say that this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. From the outset, at check-in, the staff were rude, distinterested and could barely be bothered to give anything but monosyllabic responses to simple questions. They also held our passports ransom and didn't want to return them to us.
The room itself was very scruffy and poor. Only the bedside lamps were working. We couldn't get any other lights to work which made reading impossible. The television wouldn't work and there was only one electrical socket which was operational. The room smelt terrible but although it was shabby and had seen better days, it was clean in a basic kind of way. We also found, on returning from a day out, that the room had been left unlocked by the cleaner.

If you are a Health & Safety Representative, this place would be your worst nightmare. In some places, there were only wall brackets where the fire extinguishers should be and some of the "break glass" fire buttons had been broken. It is a massive hotel so a fire here could potentially be a very serious matter. The balconies have quite rickety and dangerous railings and the hotel has many floors (the ground is a long way down) so this is not the place to go with children.
One of the pleasures of being on holiday is to have a leaisurely breakfast but after the first day in the dining room we gave up on this idea. Not even any toast! Most hotels can get breakfast right but not here. There was stale bread, sour tasting scrambled eggs and the whole atmosphere was awful. We witnessed some very dubious hygiene practices which involved a member of staff dipping a bedsheet into the metal container under the boiled eggs and using the hot water from there to clean down all the surfaces (meat to non-meat) with the sheet.
We had booked half-board and went down to the restaurant for the evening meal but soon decided we would eat out. This leads me onto the more positive side which is that althougn the hotel itself is beyond terrible, the promenade has lots of bars and retsaurants where it is possible to get nice fresh food reasonably cheaply.
The best thing about the Medena is its location. For 25kuna (return) we took a boat each day into Trogir which is beautiful and has a lot of interesting things to see. These boats run every twenty minutes or so which means that you don't feel isolated and have easy access to Trogir itself. The boats run until 23:30 each evening and so we opted most days to go into Trogir and explore there.
If you are looking for a holiday to remind you of the Eastern Bloc circa 1980, with poor facilities, terrible food and surly staff, this is the place to go. It is such a shame that a hotel with a great location is so run down and unable to provide a relaxing holiday experience and I am sorry to say it has put us off going to croatia again.

We stayed one week in this dump. The hotel is from the communist era and it was probably a looker back in the days, now it`s just old, sad, filthy and falling apart. The internet in the lobby was a joke, you can`t adjust the A/C in the rooms and you had to pay extra to have a fridge. It smelled of urine around the toilets. I`m not gonna start on the breakfast, holy smokes! The only positive thing I can say about the hotel is that is close to the beach and some of the staff talked good English and was very helpful. We stayed there in 2011, but when I found the hotel I had to write a review to warn other. I`m never gonna come back here.

The place is huge - it has 650 rooms. The location is good, just next to the sea. They have tennis courts, shops, even a hairdresser. Breakfast and dinner buffets are awesome, great selection. The only negative is that the hotel is old and needs some renovation. It is also really busy - it's popular for big organized groups so people are everywhere. Free Wi-Fi is only on the lobby level.
