We stayed at the Intercontinental for two nights prior to a Paul Gauguin Cruise. The hotel is very close to the airport, and only a $12-15 taxi ride so a car is not necessary. Taxi to the center city is $15-20. The hotel is very nice, the grounds are beautifully maintained but the hotel itself is quite dated and in need of some repairs. We loved the Polynesian feel of the hotel, but the carpets are worn and some of the spaces are outdated. I would equate the rooms to that of a Marriott standard but not as an Intercontinental. Biggest piece of advise is to make sure you have the Breakfast Buffet included in your reservation. The food is great and well worth prepaying! The last thing was the staff, unbelievably friendly. We could not pass an employee, from the gardeners, to cleaning people, to pool people, to front staff, to management without a Hello, how are you doing, can i help you with anything. The staff made the stay from a 3.5 star to a 4 star. If they updated the hotel, It could easily be a 5 star.
