We (4 of us) booked an island circle tour through the concierge at Le Meridien Hotel on Tahiti. It was a tour in a 10 passenger van with 5 stops to get out and take short easy walks to view scenic spots. The van was a little tight for space and cumbersome to get out of if you are seated in the 4th row, but still reasonably comfortable.

The stops were 1) a very large fern grotto that is sometimes a swimming hole for the locals, 2) the Water Gardens of Vaipahi, 3) a blow hole on the east side of the island with a surfing spot, 4) 280 foot Vaimahuta Falls, 5) and Captain Cook Lighthouse. Restrooms were available at 3 of the stops. Even though it was a rainy day, the tour was still excellent. Dave provided umbrellas for us when necessary.

The gardens were spectacular with many beautiful flowers including a beautiful waterfall and pond. Vaimahuta Falls was awesome and gushing water due to all the rain.

Tour duration was 4 hours and cost $60 US per person - a bargain!

David Elliard was our "American" tour guide. He came to Tahiti from Hawaii several year ago and has a family on Tahiti. Because of this, he speaks excellent English. His van is equipped with a microphone and speakers which he uses to talk about Tahiti history and other points of interest while driving in the van - easy to hear the commentary all the way from the back seat. He is very knowledgeable about the local history dating back to Captain Cook and how Tahiti came to be a French possession.

It was a pleasure to tour with Dave. He is friendly, helpful, and will offer advice on restaurants, beaches or other attractions. We highly recommend this half day circle tour. He also offers full day tours and private tours. For more info, contact Dave at tahiti1viptours@yahoo.com.

I booked Dave for a whole day tour for our party of 9 in advance of our visit by cruise ship. He was waiting for us at the cruise terminal and his air conditioned van was very comfortable and he used a mic so everyone could hear him well. We enjoyed a gentle, relaxing drive around the island visiting all the attractions including grottos, waterfalls and gardens and learned about the island's history and lush vegetation. We stopped for an excellent lunch at the Paul Gauguin restaurant and sat on the water's edge feeding the fish. Dave was a very competent and knowledgeable driver and the tour was a much better option than those offered by the cruise ship. We managed to see much more for much less than the cost of a tour on board and he made sure he got us back to the ship in plenty of time to sail.

A really good trip - plenty of time to enjoy the various stops, didn't feel rushed at all. Dave full of fascinating anecdotes about Tahiti's history and geography. A relaxed vibe in the minibus.
I thoroughly recommend Dave's tour - and if you contact him direct, not through the hotel, it's a lot cheaper!

My husband and I booked Dave for the day our cruise ship stopped in Tahiti and did we get such value for our money!!! We traveled around the entire island seeing everything on my list. Dave knows the island so well that we were almost always the only people each place we stopped. He made sure I found a black pearl ring for a very reasonable price. The highlight of our day was sitting on the beach enjoying fresh from the oven baguettes with cheese watching the waves crash on the shore. Want the perfect tour guide? Hire Dave!!!

Found Dave through visitor center at Papeete harbor. Tour was exactly what we wanted: pick-up/drop-off at hotel, with a knowledgeable and friendly guide showing us the main sights around Tahiti Nui from an air-conditioned van with a small number of fellow travelers before we walked to our ship in the afternoon to begin a cruise. Plenty of stops: to a small historic grotto, a beautiful garden, an exquisite waterfall, Point Venus lighthouse and nearby beach and monuments, an interesting blowhole, etc., each with a little walking, though nothing too strenuous. Completely agree with prior reviewers positive sentiments about Dave. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, with Dave's narration greatly enhancing the experience.
