We (4 of us) booked an island circle tour through the concierge at Le Meridien Hotel on Tahiti. It was a tour in a 10 passenger van with 5 stops to get out and take short easy walks to view scenic spots. The van was a little tight for space and cumbersome to get out of if you are seated in the 4th row, but still reasonably comfortable.
The stops were 1) a very large fern grotto that is sometimes a swimming hole for the locals, 2) the Water Gardens of Vaipahi, 3) a blow hole on the east side of the island with a surfing spot, 4) 280 foot Vaimahuta Falls, 5) and Captain Cook Lighthouse. Restrooms were available at 3 of the stops. Even though it was a rainy day, the tour was still excellent. Dave provided umbrellas for us when necessary.
The gardens were spectacular with many beautiful flowers including a beautiful waterfall and pond. Vaimahuta Falls was awesome and gushing water due to all the rain.
Tour duration was 4 hours and cost $60 US per person - a bargain!
David Elliard was our "American" tour guide. He came to Tahiti from Hawaii several year ago and has a family on Tahiti. Because of this, he speaks excellent English. His van is equipped with a microphone and speakers which he uses to talk about Tahiti history and other points of interest while driving in the van - easy to hear the commentary all the way from the back seat. He is very knowledgeable about the local history dating back to Captain Cook and how Tahiti came to be a French possession.
It was a pleasure to tour with Dave. He is friendly, helpful, and will offer advice on restaurants, beaches or other attractions. We highly recommend this half day circle tour. He also offers full day tours and private tours. For more info, contact Dave at email@example.com.
