“Stunning views, old-fashioned elegance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

A Grand Hotel you would expect with stunning views across to Lake Neuchatel and the Bernese Oberland behind, high ceilings, indoor pool and fitness centre, excellent wi-fi. My sense was that the re-furbishment was virtually complete and that the grandeur was no longer faded.. Food varied and excellent, with good wine list. Service prompt and impeccable - and a fine breakfast to boot! South facing rooms have balconies. Nearest town is Sainte Croix - around 30 minutes walk.

Room Tip: For the view, need to face south, the higher up the better - so try for the 4th floor.

After the handover of the ownership a new management has taken over. While the very old fashioned huge building is still the same, you see a few new items. A wonderful terrasse with a great few to the alps, the lake, etc. A true "balcony of the Jura" as they do say in their advertisement. Food is always good and reasonably priced. Service sometimes a little slow, but all in all an experience worthwile.
If you can, check out the new 16 m swimming pool.
Excellente location for hiking and or seminars.

Room Tip: Absolutely insist for rooms towards the Alps. Otherwise you will loose 90 % of the fun...

We spent a lovely weekend at this 3 star hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with the service, and location of this historical building site. Hotel is partially renovated and modernised, still in need of an interior upgrade. Our room was a good size with a beautiful view of the Alps and Lakes. The room has minibar and a flat screen TV too.
We dined at the restaurant, a 4 course dinner was served. Excellent food and surprisingly fast service (compared to previous TA review) good value for money. Continental breakfast is served with a good variety of bread, cold cuts, cereals, fresh fruits, etc.

Hotel has a an indoor pool, unfortunately still under renovation. There's a large modern terrace to enjoy a drink or dinner on a warm sunny day facing the alps and lakes. We were woken by the sound of cow bells of cows bracing the fields, what a sight, we loved it.

For those who are unaware The Grand Hotel des Rasses opened with great fanfare in 1898, under the leadership of Edward Baierle a Nyonnais of Bavarian origin who had a real heart for the Balcon du Jura. Sainte-Croix / Les Rasses lies on a protected sunny terrace (1100m) amidst the Jura landscape in the Lake Geneva region. The township is world-renowned for its music boxes and nickelodeons. This is a good place to stay for Skiers as there are 7 Ski lifts in Les Rasses and for those wishing to have a Thermal bath Yverdon-les-Bains on Lake Neuchâtel, lies around 20 kilometres away.

Room Tip: Request for rooms on 4th.floor eg.95/96/97/98/99 These are rooms facing the alps and lake. Bring al...

The hotel is in a perfect location with an attractive terrace area and room balconies looking across the lakes with Mont Blanc and the Alps on the near horizon. It's a short drive from the attractive small town of Ste. Croix close to the French border.

Unfortunately apart from the modern terrace it has a sense of faded grandeur and is in need of substantial udgrading of the interior and its male waiting staff. Our room had noisy boiler/equipment next door working late into the night. Service was slow and the waiters seemed to think that 15 minutes was an acceptable time to deliver a wine list. 'Je suis desole' sarcasm seemed prevalent. Perhaps that esteemed Swiss hotel training is required here?

Room Tip: Specify balcony room over the terrace
