“What a view!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2011

The hotel comes a distant second to the restaurant which occupies a breathtaking terrace overlooking the panorama of Lake Luzerne.
We arrived hot and exhaused after a long day walking in the heat of the mountains. The receptionist and manager were friendly but when it was clear we weren't likely to be dressing for dinner their interest ended.
The most endearing features of our room were the bath .... which we filled to the brim to soak away the day's aches and pains... and the lovely cow pictured on the wardrobe. Apart from that we had a standard room with little or no view of the lake.
We took the short walk to the cable car station restaurant for something more affordable for dinner.
Breakfast was taken in the dining room rather than on the terrace. So after enduing the early morning heat through the blinds we took our coffee out side to enjoy the view .... worth getting up for!

Honestly, I didn't expect much. And I didn't get much.

I knew this place would be rustic, but I assumed it would at least be comfortable. That wasn't quite the case.

Our room was right above the lobby, but in the back, overlooking the lake. The view was really magnificent. This was the best thing about our stay.

There were no shades on the windows, so at 5am in June, the sun came up over the mountains and seared our eyes to an immediate awakened state. And with all that sun blasting in, the temperature quickly soared in the room. Turn on the A/C? Nope - not here. Open the windows? Sure - if you want 10,000 files to enter and the sweet sound of cow bells making a hole in your head.

To their credit, the staff tried so pin up a second layer of curtains to help block the sun, but it didn't really do anything.

The bathroom was tiny, and they supplied a single bar of soap, just about the size of my fingernail. This was used up after one washing, and we had to go to the desk and request more because housekeeping doesn't seem to think that replenishment is important. This became a daily ritual.

On the plus side - besides the view, the service was friendly and tried to be helpful. But there wasn't much they could do about the type of problems we encountered.

I wouldn't go back.
