WE stayed here 3 nights and we'll never be back to Carel.
The Hostel is located in a noisy street, we could hardly sleep and awaked lots of times during the night. Rooms quite clean, but NO HAIRDRYER!! At the reception we were told to come later since another client had been using it, but we never got the hairdryer. At the reception they were looking for the hairdryer in the same cupboard every day, but the answer was the same:'Later, another client is using it'.
the staff isn't firendly, with poor English, they pretend they don't understand you but there were no communication problems when after our arrival we found our credit cards charged!!
The reception was closed all the time in the evenings. It definetily doesn't work 24 hours! If you need them, you have to call.
Free parkings means parking in the street and you have to drive around and around trying to find where to park a car for the night. If you want to do it late in the evening be prepared it will take you some time.
WE DON'T RECOMMEND IT.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the main street, so it's quite noisy.

We stayed in Hotel Carel for one night at the beginning and one night at the end of our trip to the Canary Islands. Our first night was in a very small, dark room on the main road. The noise of the road and the noise of the aircraft meant we got very little sleep. The second night was much better as we were in a larger, brighter room with a balcony away from the busiest road. This is definitely a hostel and not a hotel and as such represents good value for money. It is also very central and close to the beach in El Medina. The whole place, however, looks as though it needs a bit of refreshing (threadbare towels) and some repairs need to be done (broken door handles and towel rails) but overall was clean and fairly comfortable.

Room Tip: The rooms with balconies were a better option as they were away from the busiest road.

El Medano is a small seaside town literally at the end of the runway of Tenerife South Airport. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as when you get used to noise of departing aircraft, it is not a bad place for the independent traveller to visit. The town has some tourist trappings but is essentially a 'local' town. There are good restaurants in town serving a wide range of foods; Chinese to Spanish. A compact town...nothing is further than 5 minutes walk from the main square at the small back sand beach, including four banks, the excellently run tourist office, some fine bakeries and HiperDino supermarket. But El Medano's real hidden gem is the Hostal Carel in one of the main streets leading down to the beach about 150 metres away. Rooms are adequate if not a little sparsely furnished, but are kept spotlessly clean. Most rooms have a balcony, TV and en suite bathroom. Breakfast and other meals can be taken in the bar/restaurant at the hotels entrance. The hotel staff are friendly and always keen to help. For those people for whom internet access is vital...this is probably the best hotel in Tenerife to stay in! I had constant high speed internet access to my mobile 'phone and laptop for the entire duration of my stay...and it was free of charge. Rooms cost around 40 Euros per night...which is cheap by Canary Islands standards. The physical proximity of the airport is probably El Medano's greatest asset, as it has stopped the town from developing into a major resort,,,but if you can't bear the thought of aircraft noise, this is not the destination for you. The mountain you will see on your right at the beach is Montana Rojo...at about 220 metres altitude, and is well worth the walk (about 45 minutes) for the view from the top. ElMedona also hosts a number of world class windsurfing and kite surfing events.

Room Tip: Rooms on the same side as the hotel entrance have balconies with views down the street to the beach.

Stayed one night in Hostal Carel, €45 for room with Double bed, Bathroom, TV and balcony. The staff were friendly and accommodating, let us have a late check out so we could spend the day at the beach before flying out early evening and they booked us a cab. Can't go better than all that for €45!

I visited Hotel Carel back in december and I just loved it. Nice, clean, central and the staff is very kind. The small pub in the hotel is very nice as well... I loved it so much that I am going back in march for 3 days..
