Just returned from a wonderful 10 night stay at this adults only hotel. From reading previous reviews we knew the hotel was located in a quiet area and this is exactly what we were looking for, a nice quiet place just to get away from it all. The hotel is very modern and from the outside really does look like a multi storey car park! The interior seashell lights really are quite odd and became the topic of many a conversation! However, the decor is very nice. The hotel is very clean and comfortable throughout and the rooms are very spacious and spotlessly clean. Room was cleaned every day and towels were replaced on a daily basis. We had a mountain view room, which overlooked the carpark and whilst not the best view on offer it was very good for people watching! The area is also very windy but provides some welcome relief on very hot days.
The restaurant offered a wide variety of foods and there was something to suit all tastes. I do feel though that the food at breakfast could have been hotter as on most days the food was luke warm and also if you didn't get breakfast before 9am it was hard to find a clean table that had cutlery, cups and saucers etc and we often laid the tables ourselves. This is mainly due to the skeleton staff the hotel has and I am actually amazed at how they manage to run it so well with so little staff.
We had read on other reviews that there wasn't a problem getting sunbeds but unfortunately this wasn't the case during our stay when I believe the hotel was at full capacity. By 10am you really had no chance of getting one. Sunbeds were often 'reserved' and yet remained empty for hours!! After several complaints the hotel shipped in some new sunbeds which seemed to resolve the problem, although removing the broken sunbeds would have also been helpful. The pool itself is wonderful, although very salty. I didn't use the spa although other guests said it was very good.
There are 3 bars, the pool bar which opens at 10am, the terrace bar and the disco bar from 9pm. There seemed to be every drink you could think of and the local drinks were really quite good and very large measures. The all inclusive finishes at 11 but you can purchase drinks until 12. It's a shame that after 12 its a case of lights out and off to your room you go, particularly as its adults only and this would be my main complaint about the hotel. I'm not suggesting that the bars should stay open all night but surely it could be extended to at least 1am.
The entertainment is run solely by Richard who is a little bit court jester and a little bit Fawlty Towers' Manuel. However, he's very sweet and very entertaining. He organises daytime games in the form of darts, skittles, pool, table tennis, water polo etc and also walks into the town of El Medano to visit the market. As the hotel is in a very quiet area the games provide a fun distraction from sunbathing. The evening entertainment is a bit hit and miss, there's your usual bird shows, local singers, some which were entertaining purely because they were so awful, flamenco dancers and quizzes and games organised by Richard. I guarantee by the end of your stay you will have picked up one or two of his phrases such as 'you cheeky lady' 'you give me stress' He may not be everyone's cup of tea but he does try really hard to get people involved and for me gave the holiday a welcome injection of fun.
Overall we had a wonderful holiday, which was certainly made more special by the many lovely people we met. The hotel is very good and with a bit more attention to detail and more staff could be excellent.
