Our holiday to La Gomera was delayed because the port at Los Chrisianos was closed & no ferries sailing. Thompson booked us in at the Arenas DEl Mar. We had to stay close to hotel for news from our rep. The hotel is nice enough but when we had to get up early the following morning for a ferry ( which was cancelled) we were some of the first to go into breakfast .This did not turn out to be compensation as there were no cups out for hot drinks & no hot food out atall. This was up & running 20 mins after breakfast should have started.
Considering we were at the hotel under force of circumstance & not choice , the attitude of one of the reception staff (female) was dreadful. My room card was literally chucked at me when we had to re book in after the morning ferry was cancelled.
Lastly, we were told when we did leave that there was a problem & we needed to settle the bill for restaurant drinks for which we had paid cash. This was only 7 euros but left a bad taste in the mouth.Clearly someone working some kind of a scam When asked fellow La Gomera travellers had had the same thing happen to them.

Stayed at this hotel for one week and was allocated a Junior Suite with a seaview which was very nice. Very spacious room with hairdryer and clean towels each day if required. As with every all-inclusive hotel food is buffet style which served a variety of foods like fresh fish, meat, pasta and the a different kind of soup each mealtime - I LOVED the soup!! The restaurant staff, chefs were very friendly and if you asked them for anything it would not be a problem. I liked omelettes with ham and onion etc so she would make these up for me with a smile and it was no problem - they normally just serve plain egg omelettes I believe. They could have done with serving more fresh fruit eg melon , grapefruit at breakfast time and a variety of cheeses at night time to suit people like diabetics or those on special diets as I struggled for a pudding at night due to me being a diabetic. There is a very well equipped and modern gym on the roof of the hotel and it was quiet when we went to have a look at it....we unfortunately forgot our trainers...Ha,Ha! The bar staff - Jesus in the main bar and Enzo at the pool bar were again very good and the entertainment team Jose & Richard were superb. They had there work cut out the first half of our holiday as the weather was quite bad due to storms. The entertainment was actually quite good unlike alot of other hotels I have visited in the past. It is about 10 minutes walk by a good walkway to the village of El Medano. You really do need to go into town at night and try the Playa Chez restaurant near the main bus stop - the staff in here were the business - made you feel very welcome and they cooked fresh fish to perfection which you choose yourself then they go and cook it. Extremely good pricing as well. Definately recommend this one. Theres a wooden walkway around the beach with a few cafes and small shops - in general everyone in the cafes / restaurants were very welcoming of you which always makes a difference. If you are looking for a week away for relaxation and some heat (hopefully) then this is the place for you. Few things to do within 10-15 minutes or hire a car and explore!

Room Tip: Definately worth paying extra for a seaview room and if possible although not sure if this would wor...

We had a cancelled Thomson flight and were put into this hotel for one night. We had been staying at Jardines de Nivaria in a Superior Suite so this was something of a contrast to say the least. The reason for mentioning this is that reviews are very much based on budget and expectation and I imagine that at the right price this hotel would suit many people.

On the positive side - large rooms, acceptable food, friendly staff, free WiFi (if you stand by the main entrance). Also, all credit to the staff who had about 50 people descend on them at 8 p.m. and coped very well with organising rooms and a meal for us.

On the negative side, this is a deeply unattractive part of Tenerife, close to the airport, located on scrubland, on a windy headland and not close to any resort with a day or night life as far as we could see. Our sea view room looked out over a rather boring Bay which had no appeal at all. The worst aspect of the hotel for us was the very hard bed and pillows which created problems for my wife who was suffering from the after affects of whiplash. I am a seasoned traveller but even I found it difficult to sleep on these beds. As an all-inclusive hotel there is always the risk of noise and drunkeness but in fairness after 11 p.m. it seemed quiet.

If you travel the same distance to the other side of the airport (South) you come to Los Christianos and similar popular resorts. Much as I dislike these resorts I think they would be a better choice than this location.

We have just returned from a 5 day stay at the Arenas Del Mar hotel in El Medano in Tenerife. We are a couple in our early 30s and chose the hotel as it is adults only. It was a very good choice. The hotel was clean and welcoming and our room (a junior suite) was very lovely. We had a separate lounge area and a large balcony with mountain views.

The food was really good with plenty of choice. Breakfast included the usual bacon, 3 types of egg, sausages and so on including continental, cereals and variety of breads and rolls. Lunch and dinner offered ample choice with fish, meats, pizzas, salads and variety of potatoes and vegetables. We couldn't fault the food at all and enjoyed all of our meals.

The entertainment in the evenings was the usual hotel fare... bingo, quiz night, karaoke, soul night, birds of prey demonstration(?) The staff in the hotel (José and Richard) go above and beyond to provide a comprehensive entertainment package throughout the day. Some of these included, water aerobics, cooking demonstrations, Spanish lessons and so on... But if you are not interested and just want to lie on a sunbed and relax they will happily leave you alone!

El Medano is about a ten minute walk from the hotel and is a small town situated around a harbour with lots of bars and restaurants and small shops. It was nice to take a stroll into the town and have a drink or an ice-cream. There is definitely a laid back feel to this part of Tenerife which we really liked after finding Las Americas and Christianos a bit much!! El Medano has become a favourite with the surfers and the whole place has taken on that relaxed, calm ambience.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Arenas Del Mar, and we are already thinking of going back in October. We had very little to complain about during our stay, but there were a few things:
1. The snacks around the pool were pretty poor, just sandwiches and rolls.
2. To use the spa (which looked lovely) cost €18 pp for 2 hrs.. We thought you should've got that as part of your stay!
3. The hotel could not provide an iron (they did provide an ironing service but you had to send your clothes away for them to be ironed elsewhere).
4. The toiletries in the bathroom were not replaced, once you had used the 2 sachets of shower gel that was it!

Overall we would highly recommend this hotel to those looking for relaxation, good food and a child-free holiday! When we return we will book a sea view room and take a higher factor sunscreen (that breeze makes the heat deceptive!).

Hi Guys.
Firstly may I say that below is only our opinion and others may be totally different!!
My wife and I travelled to El Medano, Tenerife, on the 2nd of March 2013 for 7 days. We flew with Monarch Airlines from Gatwick to Tenerife and all was well. As you may expect Extras, extras, extras such as all drinks, extra legroom, snacks, priority check-in, etc,etc but all in all the flight was good and cabin staff excellent!
We rented a car from Avis at the airport which we paid for through Avios £118.98 excl ins wavier + £60 (best to pay this as if you don't and have an accident it is going to cost you in the region of £600 !!! This was a VW Polo 1.4 and after 1000 Kilometers this cost a full tank £60.
The hotel was as already explained more the look of a prison in it's interior as all of the floors have a hollow in the center! This is ok but if you are an early to bed, early to rise person you tend to hear all of the late night entertainment from the lounge and the late night revellers etc!
Breakfast was quite good with some rareaties thrown in (Fried onions, courgetes, peppers etc)
Drinks were fairly expensive though they were doubles/trebles Whisky on the rocks £4.50 Vodka Diet Coke £4.50. We didn't eat in the evening at this hotel!
The hotel it's self is quite nice even with the above comments! However, it's a good job we hadf a car as the town is about a mile away, therefore nowhere to go in the evening unless you walk or get a taxi there and back!
The staff were very friendly, rooms spacious and the housekeeping excellent! We asked to be put in a sea view room on arrival, however this was to be another 6 euros per day each.!! We didn't take them up on this as the wind off of the sea was in excess of 100mph!!!!!!!!! Also the room is split in two by tall wardrobes so you can't see the sea from bed anyway!!
Evening meals in the towns resturants vary from £8 to about £20 and are excellent!
Overall this hotel is not a very pretty one either in or out as per the pics and is in a, lets say....Remote or quiet location maybe still to be developed !!!!!!!!!!!
The town is also quite nice with lots of eateries and bars to choose from

just back from the worst holiday we have had We read the reviews ,and I think these folks have been to a different hotel .And yes it was like cell block H .We found it very dreary and dismal ,Yes the staff were very friendly and helpful apart from reception found them rude and they could, not be bothered. The food was only luke warm the first three nights and then after many complaints the hot plates were turned up The variation was'nt to bad. on the whole this hotel looks like a prison on the inside as well as the outside the weather was the worst weather they have had for months ,which of course could not be helped. But even on a nice day it was so windy. We went into las Americas just for a bit of life ,tho we knew it would be quite at the hotel we expected a bit of life quite put us off Tenerife and will not be going there again

Arrived with my partner on 19th Feb with a little scepticism, having read some good and negative reports especially regarding the windy weather.
We thought the hotel was fabulous and wasnt like a prison from the outside at all as very modern looking and in a lovely quiet spot only 20 mins walk into the town of El Medano which is lovely and unspoilt with some little tappas/tavernas in the square and boardwalk type lovely sea front promenade..The hotel food was plentiful with a good choice of fish, meat salads and vedg...the only negative was the all inclusive wine which I personally didnt like as im fussy!!...theres a little bar at the pool which serves drinks constantly.
There was for the best part of the week a breeze which i loved and we both got a fabulous tan.
The staff were friendly and helpful and there was some good entertainment in the evening..
We would definately return as made some friends and everybody was friendly and no children which for us was bliss!!!...been there and done all that.
The bedrooms were very clean and towels changed every day which was great.
Recommend to anyone not wanting to spend a noisy commercialised type holiday like in playa de las americas...perfect!! yes there were aircraft going over though mainly afternoons and didnt bother us at all

Room Tip: If you can get a sea view as you will get the sun late afternnon...we had a mountain view which was...
