“Ignore all bad reviews!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012

We have just arrived back this morning from the hotel and we have had the most relaxing holiday. There are a few niggles - yes, but overall the place was clean, staff friendly, plenty of places to relax, and options for doing more if you wanted.
Whilst staying at Arenas Del Mar we over heard a few people moaning about the food etc but lets be honest its all inclusive and they are all much the same. There was a huge choice everyday, fish/chicken/steaks etc were cooked in front of you so they were FRESH, all you needed to do if you wanted anything extra/different was to ask and the chefs were happy to do omelettes etc at breakfast so that they were FRESH for you, people were moaning because they had to wait 3 mins for their freshly cooked eggs etc, I mean really??? Some people are just born to winge and moan!
The staff were all friendly and helpful, all you needed to do if you needed anything was to ASK!
The only thing I would say is yes there is lack of shade around pool which I didnt mind but for my elderly Mother it was a bit too hot for her, but there is a lovely shaded area around the side which was perfect to sit under and read.
The rooms were lovely, plenty of room, and the bathroom was well "lush"! TV had all English channels if you wanted them and the room had everything you needed.
Yes it is in a quiet resort but isn't that what you want on holiday? The local town is amazing really Spanish and well worth the walk down to investigate the local Tapas bars and shops.
We had a lovely holiday met some great people, and we wouldn't hesitate to go back.

The hotel is very plain looking from the outside but is much better once you are inside. We had a 5th floor room which was at the back of the hotel but which had fabulous views of the beach to one side, the mountains to the front and the sea to the other side. To be fair, I think whichever side of the hotel you are on there would be fabulous views, although you would have restricted views and sun on any floor other than the 5th as all the balconies on the other floors are overhung by the other floors. The room was a nice size with the bedroom separated from the living area by a set of wardrobes, and a good sized living area, and the whole room and bathroom were clean and modern. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk away from the town of El Medano which is fairly small but has a good selection of small tapas bars and restaurants. If you a looking for an english bar or sports bar you need to look elsewhere - this will not be the place for you. The food was ok, and there was always at least one rice dish, one pasta dish, chips and another potato dish with 3/4 different meats and fish and a good salad selection although I was desperate for fresh vegetables by the time I came home. Some people would say it gets repetitive, but to be fair, if you eat 4 different meats at lunch and then at dinner, it would soon get repetitive. If people ate meals like they would at home ie one meat, salad etc then you can have something different every day. The pool is the warmest one I have ever been in, so, despite it being a saltwater pool, it is nice. There are plenty of sunbeds and so there is absolutely no need to get up early to reserve one. We used to wander down at around 10am and there were still plenty of beds stacked around the pool. There are only a few umbrellas so people were going out early and reserving some of these, but around the bar area there are umbrellas and there is a seating area with canvas sails stretched out so you can always find a shady place to sit. We hired a car from reception which was EUR99 for 3 days (it's EUR90 for 2 days so worth paying a little bit more for the extra day) and with just a very basic one page tourist map, managed to make our way around most of the island and up Mount Teide as well (be aware it's EUR 25 each to go up the final bit in the cable car and if you want to go climb to the very summit, you need to apply online beforehand, and , no matter how hot it is, take something warm as it is cold up there!) We booked our holiday about 10 days before travelling and are aware that some people paid quite a bit more than we did. For the money we paid, we had a fabulous time, were totally relaxed and just enjoyed the sun. There are some improvements needed, the staff are really pleasant but are run absolutely ragged. There is usually just one person serving in the bar and having to clean the glasses and tables etc in between serving, and only 2 people clearing tables and re-setting in the restaurant - with approx 60 tables and multiple sittings this is clearly not enough. There are only 2 lifts and for the majority of our stay only 1 was working. Most people got fed up of waiting and walked downstairs, although with us being on the 5th floor, we preferred to wait when we were going back up. These are small niggles and I would visit again if I could get it for a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 5th floor are the only one where the balconies aren't overhung by the rooms above.

This was our second visit to this hotel. The hotel is perfect for us as we like to have a nice relaxing holiday. The food is lovely with plenty on offer and alot of it is cooked fresh in front of you. I am a vegetarian and I always found lots to eat. The salad bar is lovely and so are the desserts and ice cream!

The staff are lovely but they could probably do with a few more especially at the bars. The rooms are lovely and spacious and we had booked a sea view room which was great. The rooms are cleaned daily and you get fresh towels every day.

The pool is heated and is great to get in to cool off from the sun. We were there between 11th to 18th Sept and it wasn't windy at all!! We didnt have a problem getting a sun lounger even though the hotel was busy.

The hotel is very close to the airport and we got a taxi from the airport which was 12 euros. It is right on the flight path but the planes didn't bother us and you cannot hear them when you are in the room.

We will definately go back for the third year in a row!! :-)

Room Tip: Get a sea view room.

Just got back from the Arenas Del Mar. Disappointed by the lack of staff, menu choice and shade. Hotel looks like one big block of concrete, just like the pool area. All the parasols were broken or taken. Not enough sun loungers or shade around the whole complex.Felt sorry for the small number of staff trying to do too many tasks, the restaurant and bar staff were not only serving but also clearing up at the same time. Quite remote location, which is fine for a quiet holiday, but taxi trip into nearest main town cost 60 Euro's return. Mountain view room's over look car park/building site, not that nice a view at all.
First holiday not to take a picture, just too bad to show anyone.
Would never go back.Sorry!!

Lovely hotel, lovely staff. We had a fantastic suite on the 5th floor with an ocean view . Excellent views from the restaurant and the poolside too. Although a bit remote from El Medano centre, the town is walking distance or a short taxi ride. It is not a tourist town and seemed very popular with local people at the weekends. The buffet had enough choice with freshly cooked meat and fish at all times. This hotel is best for a relaxing adult holiday. Richard (animation) worked hard at promoting a full programme of daytime and evening activities, so, plenty to do if you wished to participate. The hotel is just beside the beach so close enough to use the hotel facilities, although there is beach bar where every drink is 1 Euro and it stays open well into the night . The spa is not included in the room rate so you need to pay to use the indoor pool. The gym on the 6th floor is free. Fresh pool towels were provided every day. This is not the place to stay if you are looking for nightclubs and British pubs.

Room Tip: Suites are very large with a separate bedroom, ours had a fabulous ocean view. Mountain view rooms m...

The hotel was great, good food, big rooms that were well furnished. And amazing staff!

There was only 1 drawer in the entire room, the air conditioning went off at 1 in the morning and came back on at 6, the food was disgusting, with a repetative menu and I was only there a week, never been to Spain and had to endure tinned fruit!!!, couldnt provide poached eggs and omelets consistently, the rest of the breakfast was breast stroking in oil.Tables not set, napkins were wet, very few staff, and those there were multi tasking to a rediculous level. The display of green mouldy oranges was very off putting.
2 lifts in the hotel but only 1 worked, we were told by staff it that was dilberate, the all inclusive was extremely limited and the drinks range was very poor. The all inclusive finishes at 11, we purchased additional drinks and were allowed to and then the lights were turned off, when the reception staff were challenged they said the lights were on an automatic timer, for a moment I had thought we were all adults!!!
Says it will be adult only from Novemeber not sure how it ever facilitated children as there is nothing there.
Can definately say it was the worst experience I have ever had
