“Three months among friends”
Reviewed March 13, 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We spent the winter, December, January and February in Casa Carmela, in a little town called La Guancha in the north of Tenerife, a quarter of an hour's drive from from Puerto de la Cruz. Just retired, this was our first whole winter away from Finland, Tenerife we knew pretty well already.
I'll comment on ly three things. The house, the village and the villagers.
First, the house was exactly as advertised, an old Canarian townhouse. We had a lounge and a good-size kitchen, one largish bedroom with a not so large double bed, plus balconies on two levels, two bathrooms, one in each floor. The house was well equipped, including a washing machine, outside on the balcony. A very strange idea for a Finn, but in a Canarian climate quite practical.
The house was nice a practical, had the weather been better we could have enjoyed the balconies a bit more. But: everything worked and when they didn't, our landlords' rescue team fixed things without hesitation. For example, the main electric heater ceased to produce warmth the first day we arrived, we got two new ones within hours. Cosy again.
One wish for future: sharper knives for the cooks. Five stars out of five, without hesitation.
The village or town is small but nice, the views wonderful (from the house, too). All services are within a walking distance - if you are willing to walk steep streets up and down. It is a mountaineous island! Well, by car just seconds and always a parking place by the butchers or the supermarkets or the lovely bar called Esperanza.
Well, the bar was quite ordinary, but the atmosphere quite exceptional. We felt really welcome, the publican and the other customers almost became friends - without a common language.

So, if you want to spend a week or two - or three months - in good house, with wonderful views and a very friendly surroundings, choose Casa Carmela.
A bonus: there is a vineyard, Vinatigo, with a shop, closer than a two hundred meters. The rose is perfect, really good value.

“Beautiful home from home in stunning location”
Reviewed March 12, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We stayed at Casa Carmela for just four nights and could easily and happily have stayed for four weeks! It's even more gorgeous than the photos, a really perfect spot. Karen is super helpful and Lala and Jose who met us at the property are lovely and welcomed us as if we were old friends - even though they speak little English and we have no Spanish we were able to understand each other is some way! The house is really clean and well equipped with everything you need. The location is peaceful and the views from the terraces are truly stunning. There are lots of walks nearby through beautiful forest and up the hills to find even more lovely views. Nearby Icod is a great place to visit and Garachico is just gorgeous with a little square to sit in and the most amazing sea pools to swim in, although sadly the sea was too rough when we visited to swim in them. We will have to come back! Highly recommend this place, you will not be disappointed, it is a total gem and amazing value for money too. Thank you so much.

“A Real Canarian Experience”
Reviewed November 14, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

We found the property easily having been given excellent directions. We were met on arrival by the owners who were anxious to please. They tried, they cared and it showed!
This genuinely old house, which is full of local character, stands on high ground and has stunning views over the distant coast line and sea from three levels.
Parking is available immediately outside.
Unlike most rental properties, the personal bits and pieces have not been put away for safety - it is like stepping into a permanent home. As well as a welcome bottle of wine and box of cookies, there was even tea and sugar available.
Any downsides? Well not for us as a couple but we only had the use of one bedroom, so for more than two adults, it may not be ideal for those sleeping in the lounge area downstairs with just a curtain for privacy! Also, no wifi at present but we are told it is coming.
For us, a real find and we would love to return .

“Lovely Canarian style house”
Reviewed January 3, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

This house is lovely in the traditional local style, with great terraces (amazing views of El Teide and the ocean) and very well equipped compared to most rental properties we've stayed in, good shower pressure and plenty of hot water. The owners were there to meet us on Xmas Eve and had put up Christmas decorations and a welcome box of essential items that was really appreciated. The decor is completed by Jorge's lovely paintings of the island. Also there are heaters to keep it nice and cozy during the chilly winter evenings. Only downside of visiting at this time of year is that it isn't warm enough to make as much use of the terraces as we would have liked.

This is really well located for hiking up around Teide & the Orotava valley, the weather on this side of the island is less predictable than the south, but it is much more beautiful and lush. Only things to note are that other than the bathrooms there are no internal walls, which was fine for us as a couple but might be lacking in privacy if there are more of you. Also do make sure to get good directions from Karen as the house can be a bit difficult to find, we had some miscommunication and a satnav failure which meant some problems in getting there. But overall I would highly recommend this and hope to come back at some point.

“Superb views from rooftop terrace”
Reviewed December 30, 2013 for a stay in November 2013

The cottage was excellent value for money; had lots of character and superb views from the rooftop terraces. Friendly reception on arrival. Would stay there again. If you want peace and quiet away from busy resorts this is just the place.

“Superb little villa”
Reviewed October 24, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

The villa is basically two big rooms. The Kitchen/Diner/lounge has two sofa beds. There is a toilet/shower and a curtain to pull across the sleeping area. Go upstairs (no doors) big double bed wth small 'put me up' and en-suite. There is a lovely terrace with great views accessible from the upstairs bedroom with a further terrace above. So lots of outdoor living. In all honesty as long as you are happy with the open plan layout then look no further. The owners are really friendly and helpful, well equipped kitchen, big bar-b-q on terrace, even soap provided. Had a great week, stayed with a friend and we are keen walkers so a great base for the north walking routes and Mt Teide. Highly recommended.

“What a lovely Ruby Wedding present ...”
Reviewed March 11, 2013 for a stay in March 2013

Our four children presented us with a folder at Christmas with a photo on the front from our wedding day. Inside were details of Casa Carmela, which they had booked for us for the week including our 40th wedding anniversary. They had also booked flights and a car.
The directions received from Karen on how to reach the Casa Carmela were spot on, as, also, were her directions to the Alcampo hypermarket between Puerto de la Cruz and La Oratavo, where we stopped en route to stock up on food.
The welcome from Jorge and Lala was lovely.
The views from the terraces are fantastic, both down to the north coast of Tenerife and up the hill to Mount Teide.
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Carmela and also walking round Garachico and parts of Puerto de la Cruz, including the Botanic Gardens.
