“My 10 year old got a severe burn from the water”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2014

There needs to be more signs next to every single pool that states how hot they are. Actually there are some small corner pools that are so hot you could make soup. In the sports bar pool with the changing lights there is a pool in the corner that is so hot you could die if you stayed in for longer than 30 seconds. We were enjoying the pool when my 10 year old saw a pool in the corner and plunged directly into it. It took him a couple of seconds to get out and was screaming, saying he is burned! Fortunately he was able jump out fast enough that he just suffered the burns on his legs. This ruined our time at the pools. He was in pain and sad. I told the management and he did not care, pointing to the sign that is way out at the entrance stating that the pools are hot. But there is no sign that says danger, do not enter this specific pool or else you will get burned. No compensation, no apology, nothing.

We didn't rent a room here. My wife Xander I bought day passes for the hot springs and dinner. Dinner consists of a buffet and wasn't worth the extra $20 per person in my opinion. The hot springs very in temperature and there are a bunch of them. They are shallow enough for the kids and there are water slides. Some of the pools have swim up bars too. Overall, it's pretty neat and I'd recommend spending the $31 for the day pass.

We also got a couples massage. No complaints, it was great. A little expensive though.

After zip-lining in the morning and then hiking Arenal volcano, we went to this resort for dinner and hot springs relaxation. The buffet was very nice, with many choices. Since it was my husband's birthday, they made a special cake with candles just for him and sang happy birthday to him. The soak pools were amazing, not even sure we got to all of them. The creativity of the pools, varying of degrees, was astounding. We also enjoyed the vapor cave while our 10 year old son had fun on the water slides. The bartenders were accommodating, especially when we shared a birthday shot of Cacique! A must stop when touring the area!

The spa is less than a 10 minute drive from Fortuna, should you not wish to stay at the actual resort. We came on a weekday evening, as the spa is open to the public until 10 PM. We bought discounted tickets at our hotel in Fortuna and for $35 USD, we had admission to the spa as well as a buffet dinner, which was one of the best buffet meals I have experienced. I love Costa Rican fare! I believe the regular price for this combo is $55. The locker rentals, which you'll want to do, are $6 USD. There are several spa pools throughout, of varying water temperatures and different layouts, Most have bars in the middle of or on the side of the pool. You can literally be waist deep in water, sitting on a cement stool at a bar in the middle of the water and order a beer ($5.50 USD - which is readily accepted) or cocktail ($10 USD). It's pretty glorious. There are water slides here as well, which use the heated hot spring water and drop you into a warm pool. Fun! Beware the middle slide in the set of the three - the fast one. Be sure to lie down vs. sit up, to avoid potential whiplash. My favorite pool was the grotto, which had multiple water falls of smaller streams and varying intensity. There was a sauna to the rear of this one. This was also a hotter pool and the water was very therapeutic on sore muscles. This stop on our Costa Rica adventure was worth every penny and was definitely one of the major highlights of our trip!

While visiting Arenal, we went to these hot springs in addition to those at Paradise. While Paradise was pretty peaceful and small, Baldi was the opposite. Baldi apparently has over twenty pools and water slides. There was also a cool sauna area. It was much more crowded then Paradise, and the drinks were much more expensive. We also had dinner at both places, and the freshly cooked dinner at Paradise was far superior to the flavorless buffet food at Baldi. Overall, Baldi was super flashy and exciting, but was a bit overrated. I suppose it is good if you want to experience lots of different pools and the slides, but it is not so good for relaxing, and I would skip on the overpriced buffet.

In the La Fortuna area, it is hard to decide which springs location is best. My husband and I stayed at Volcano lodge and Springs and took a taxi to Baldi for some evening entertainment. We paid for a buffet meal and swim in the springs. The meal was good--lots of choices and desserts. The springs were less crowded than we anticipated and read about before vacationing. The music was fun and the spring pools were very clean. The lighting was nice for a romantic evening. Many pools had different temperatures, some were even too hot to last more than a minute or two. This experience all comes at a big price ($102 for two) but it was much more entertaining that the little spring our own hotel offered.

We stayed at this hotel in early June as a group of friends. We had a great time enjoying the water springs and moving from one pool to the other and had a blast on the water slides. The spa was an ok experience as the fact that the room is in an open space took away from the privacy of the experience. Food was average and it didn't help that everything shuts down at 10pm.
Nevertheless we had a great time since we were a group but 2 days were enough.
The highlight of the stay had to be our trip to the sky adventures and the zip lines. A must do.
