The setting for this restaurant is off the main road and secluded. The value midday menu was a very reasonable 10 euro, but unfortunately the quality/service was poor -especially as many of the positive reviews had made us choose here. The steak and chips dish was ok. The chicken dish, however, despite looking cooked from the outside, was completely raw inside. The waiter took the plate away but when he returned he just plonked it in front of my companion without any apology after I had finished my meal.
Unfortunately this lack of professionalism leaves a bad taste. Things can go wrong, but staff have to be able to retrieve situations.

We have passed by this hotel/restaurant many times, as the outside appearance is not particularly attractive. Inside it is cosy, rustic and welcoming. Popular with tradesmen, as well as locals.
Well cooked food with prompt congenial service. Good choice of set menus.

We shared lunch at the Auberge again last Friday this time with two of our dearest friends. As always the service was charming and efficient and, with the beautiful weather, we were able to eat in the garden. A table in the shade is essential for us, and as usual, we were facilitated.

We chose the menu and all of us were delighted with the choice. Two of us opted for Salade Mimosa for starters, one with tomatoes and one with eggs. These are substantial salads which have tuna and various leaves backing up the eggs and tomatoes. The others chose a charcuterie plate which was well received by both.

For mains, I chose bbq chicken which was delicious and cooked so that it virtually fell from the bone. And it was leg of chicken which would always be my preference. One of our guests chose Traverse de Porc, which was delicious and luscious. It was, I guess, the part between belly and rib - so it had small bones and lots of very tender meat. My partner had the plat du jour which was roast of pork as did our other guest. The portion was plentiful and perfectly cooked.

We took a rest before dessert but managed to have two ice creams, one flan coco and one chocolate mousse (which is always wonderful).

We were mildly disconcerted when only a half litre of red wine was served (as there is a quart - quarter litre - per person included in the menu) but were then informed that they were just avoiding the wine getting too hot on the beautiful day. So the second half litre arrived almost as soon as the first was finished.

As ever, an excellent venue for lunch or dinner, but do use your anti-mosquito spray if going in the evening. It is an Auberge not an haute cuisine restaurant, so it the food country food. But we love it.

Because of rent car problems, our travel agency made last minute arrangements for us to stay at this B&B/restaurant the night before Stage 14 of the Tour de France which began in the neighboring town of Limoux. We arrived late and hungry. The owner, Monique Heintz, kindly prepared a quick dinner for us. It was delicious as was the view the next morning from our bedroom window. We made it to the Tour and the entire experience was a highlight of our visit to Southern France.
