“Just Perfect”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

La Moneze Basse was everything we could possibly have wished for (and a little bit more besides!). Jeremy is the perfect host and from the moment we arrived he made us feel so welcome. The rooms were well appointed with wonderful showers and were spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were delightful, with a vast choice and amazing little pastries baked by Jeremy's mother. The surroundings are beautiful and very tranquil. We also really appreciated all of Jeremy's advice on places to visit - of which there were too many to fit into a week (we will just have to return...). I could go on, but in short I would highly recommend La Moneze Basse, as I honestly don't believe there is anywhere better.

Room Tip: Perfect for families requiring two adjoining rooms.

My wife and I spent six nights at the La Moneze Basse at the end of April 2014. The accommodations, the location and most of all the hospitality would be hard to beat.

La Moneze Basse is comfortable B&B a few minutes outside the small city of Limoux in the Aude Department of France. The building, a converted winery, is set on a good size plot of land nestled among vineyards. It features large airy rooms and has plenty of public space, both inside and out, for relaxing and socializing with fellow guests. Most of the grounds are carefully planted with a variety of flowers, shrubs and trees, but there's space set aside for growing vegetables and herbs. There's even a small flock of chickens providing fresh eggs for the breakfast table. Speaking of breakfast, each morning there’s a tempting array of breads, meats, cheeses and cereals available, and often there’s even homemade pastry.

Location is important for any tourist, and the famous walled city of Carcassonne is a short distance away, but that's just the beginning. There are all sorts of historical sites (This is Cathar territory), wineries and picturesque towns within easy driving distance. For the physically active, opportunities for hiking, biking and boating seem endless. In short, there's no end of things to see and do.

The accommodations are excellent and the location ideal, but what really sets La Moneze apart is the hospitality. Beginning by offering you a glass of the local sparkling wine on your arrival, Tania and Jeremy are wonderful hosts going out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Jeremy, a true polyglot, knows the area like the back of his hand and will be more than happy to help you put together an itinerary tailored to your interests and ambitions. He even predicts the weather with remarkable accuracy. Both he and Tania seem to enjoy their guests immensely, and it’s hard to imagine anyone better suited to running a B&B.

For anyone interested in exploring this historically interesting and scenic region of France, it would be hard to find a nicer spot run by nicer people

And the best bed of my trip in hard bed country! I can't wait to come back and spend more time in Cathar country! Jeremy is the most charming and helpful of hosts. Breakfast is huge and can include cooked to order eggs from the property's hens. Any recommendation Jeremy gives you can be trusted absolutely!

We live in France and took a 3 day "vacation" to cycle in the area of Limoux. Our stay at La Monèze Basse was perfect. The region is superb for cycling and the owner of this bed and breakfast was available to give us advice on routes, etc. Our room was comfortable and the outside sitting area welcoming in the warm weather. The breakfast is fresh, delicious, and plentiful and the owners include many extras that make a difference between a good and an excellent bed and breakfast.

We look forward to returning to La Monèze Basse and highly recommend this bed and breakfast if you are in the area. The owners manage it quietly efficiently and the clients can just relax.

We just returned from a five week vacation in France and Spain. We went to 14 different destinations and everyone agreed that of all our experiences, La Moneze Basse was the best! We were traveling with our two boys who are 6 and 10 and they haven't stopped talking about their experience. There are chickens and bunnies and a little swing set to play on. We took a lovely walk around the area which was relaxing and beautiful. But, what makes this place special is the love that the owners have put into it. They really get everything right. The hospitality, the attention to detail and the breakfast is the best we had in France. Jeremy and Tania really know what they are doing and their love for this B and B shows. Don't miss the opportunity to stay here!

The reviews from previous guests are exactly what we experienced. My wife Julie and I stay regularly in B and B's when we travel. La Moneze Basse is the best we have ever stayed at. Located outside of Limoux just a few miles and just 20 mins from very busy but very interesting Carcassone, it is a perfect location to discover Cather Country and Pyrennes mountains. Combined with this amazing B and B., the location and wonderful French cooking and the local cava. This is the vacation we were looking for. Thanks Jeremy, Tania, Seb and the family Tony and Julie Pierce USA

We rented a small first floor apartment for a week, in this large renovated winegrowers house, just 3 minutes from the centre of Limoux. It is run by a very welcoming and extremely efficient family who clearly aim to give their guests the best of everything. Thanks to the generous time they gave us, we learned a lot about places to visit and local customs, and so were better prepared to explore the area. The apartment had a good-sized south facing terrace, with a fabulous view of surrounding vineyards where my husband and I relaxed well, and enjoyed the warm evenings and setting sun.

Every morning we joined the bed and breakfast guests downstairs for a sumptuous breakfast which was included in the price, We could easily have spent more time in the area as there was so much to enjoy, not least the lovely ambiance created by our hosts.
