“October break”

A lovely time of year to visit, snow centre an added extra.
If you fancy a day out the nearest town is Valkenswaard, a pleasant 3km walk, interesting museums on falconry and cigar making! Also plenty of shops, a very good chocolate shop! and plenty of places to eat.

It's a bit difficult to write a single review about the whole experience, accommodation, location, activities, food, etc. I'll try.
This Center Parcs did not leave me much impressed. First of all, it's badly signposted, so you'd better rely on a good GPS. We prepared our itinerary but some unexpected road work close to the Center caused some trouble as we had to find an alternative route by ourselves. But even if you can take the usual route, you won't see a lot of signs. The signage inside the park isn't great either. I imagine people spending lots of time wondering where they are and where their cottage is. At night, everything looks the same, the lighting is minimum. You will be able to find your way after 1 day, but until you get familiar with the park, you may occasionally take the wrong path. This brings me to my next point. The park is big and depending on where your cottage is, you will spend too much time walking around. I was in the area 8, which is far away from the "centre". Better think twice before leaving the supermarket, 'cause you don't want to realize later you forgot something. That would mean you need another 30-minute walk back and forth. Better choose your cottage carefully - zone 8 is too far away from everything. I suspect this was built later as an extension to the park.

The cottage itself was great, recently renovated and very clean.
So far so good. But unfortunately, there were also a lot of small things that summed up and eventually caused frustration. I'll mention a few:
- a "Premium" cottage does not come with towels - it's an option. Actually, the cottage is great but you need to bring EVERYTHING with you. Don't expect toiletries or dish-washing liquid. You need to bring everything with you (or buy it at the supermarket)
- there is no standard wifi. Again, you pay for a Premium cottage, but this is not included. What a joke!
- the cottage does not have a phone, so you can't even call the reception. If there is an emergency or if you have a question, you will need to walk 15 minutes to the reception.
- the heating did not work. There is a thermostat and a label that says the user's manual is in the "kitchen's cupboard". You never found it. We tried everything to operate the thermostat (it has only 2 buttons so it can't be that difficult) unsuccessfully. Maybe I should have called the reception to ask for help. Oh wait no, there is no phone in the Premium cottage.
- even the safe is optional.
- most of the indications are translated in English, German and French. The English was kind of OK but the translations in French were terrible, sometimes typos sometimes complete rubbish. Not a big deal, but it seems the attention to details is not quite there yet.
So, great cottage but miserable service.

We ate a couple of times in the restaurants. It was fine, overpriced as one would expect, but not over the top. The supermarket is relatively big, and the price premium compared to a normal supermarket was not exaggerated.

The water park and the snowcenter are two of the main highlights. Both were very disappointing. The water park is small and unimpressive. Needless to say the entrance is not included in the base price (even the locker isn't free!). There is small basin and a few slides. I believe every big city has a better water park nowadays. The slides are for kids only - anyone above 10 will find them boring. The waves were also of a minimum amplitude. Maybe it was nice 25 years ago, but again I can go to my local water park and have a much better experience. I guess that's OK for young kids, though. And don't think about swimming. There is no basin for that. On a side note, there are only a few open showers and there was a terrible smell in the changing room.
Finally, the snowcenter is a joke for anyone who has spent more than 1 hour on a real ski slope. This slope is very short and while I was planning to try it, I just cancelled my plan when I saw it. I don't think I would have gone even it had been for free. I don't have high expectations for an in-door ski slope but this was too ridiculous. Again, you can find in-door ski facilities in a lot of big metropolitan areas nowadays, and much better ones. I suppose for young children who never had a chance to ski for real, this could be fun as a first experience. But any skier, no matter the age, who has a minimum experience should feel bored after 15 minutes.

I have read other reviews from people driving an awful lot to spend time in this park. I struggle to see why anyone would spend so much time and money for this particular park, but again I might not belong to the right demographic for it.
For families with young children only.

Average centre parcs village nothing outstanding, cleanliness was good. The best reason for going to this one is the huge indoor ski centre on real snow on the edge of the park. With discounted lesson packages.

Room Tip: If you plan to self cater you may wish to take your preferred utensils etc.

We have just come back from a week at De Kempervennen and have had a fantastic time. The staff really made the holiday for us as they could not have been more welcoming, helpful or friendly - it made everything so easy!
The kids loved the farm, donkeys and otters and were constantly occupied by the various play areas dotted around the grounds. Book the activities early so as to not miss out as some are very popular but there are many free or low cost activities which all help to keep kids occupied.
The cottage was of a very good standard - we booked an 8 berth for 6 of us as Nanny and Grandad were also coming and found it very spacious with a well equipped kitchen. The restaurants on site were a little expensive but there is a lovely town very close by with some very nice restaurants and the shop on site is very well stocked so we cooked in the cottage most nights.
I would highly recommend De Kempervennen.

We had a fantastic stay this half-term, and clearly more and more British people ave realised it's far better value than the UK version. Would definitely recommend for families.
We stayed in the Kinder Cottage and had plenty of room - though slight 'villa-envy' when we saw our friends' Eden Villa which was super posh!
As usual it's best o book activities prior to arrival or as soon as you get there, as lots were booked up - but this park has a lot to do for free. The Aqua Mundo was great and even with a 22 month old we managed to stay in there for hours! The playgrounds are also really good free fun.
We had a food arrangement which worked out really well and saved money.
Centerparcs is the same everywhere - but this version Beas Uk prices hands down!

Only a 3hr trip from Calais and easy to find , arrived early (10.30am before 14.00 checking) and was able to use all the facilities which was really good.
Found our cottage which was clean and tidy with good sized rooms & small sauna, then took the car to the car park and left it there (not allowed to leave it by your cottage, can be quite a walk away from cottage).
Hired bikes for all the family which was quite expensive for the week but the kids loved it, cycling around the park through out the day.
Lots of activities to do but not really much choice for kids under 8, but are two were more than happy going to the morning kids club, playgrounds, swimming pool & water chutes or just cycling about.
A couple of good restaurants on site where we ate most nights but if you go into the small town 3km outside of the park (turn left when leaving) there are lots of restaurants/bars to choose from it doesn't take too long to get there on your bikes and the kids even managed it (both 6).
We would defiantly come back here again and also try one of the other parc's in Holland (Seems much better value for money than the UK parc's).

We were looking for a family vacation through the holidays.
Friends reccomended center parcs as a chain.
we started looking for one in NL.
De Kempervennen seemed like the right choice for it's many activities.
we were very satisfied with the place. The cottage was very large and comfortable and well equiped.
the water world was fun and the property is large enough for sports and biking around.
very good value for money.
