Owner description: Red beach Santorini: The red beach is one of the most famous and beautiful of the beaches of Santorini. It is located near the village and ancient site of Akrotiri.

Red Beach and the surrounding view is beautiful, but it is clearly no longer a tourist destination. The path to the beach is roped off, with a sign saying not to pass as there is danger of falling rocks. Once past this section of the path, you have to climb down a precarious, steep trail on the rock face to get to the beach. It's clear from the lack of umbrellas and working washrooms that Red Beach as a "tourist area", has long ago been abandoned. Unfortunately the tourist guides do not tell you this. :-(

After parking our car, we climbed up the rather steep, volcanic rocky path to reach the path down to the Red Beach. The view was breathtaking as it was a bright, clear day and the sun literally glowed on the sheer red cliffs that towered over the beach like a protective, giant parent. After taking a million photos, we noticed the path leading down to the beach was roped off with a sign that said, "Danger, falling rocks."
Silly us, we asked a vendor how we could approach the beach another way, and she said, "Go that way" pointing to the closed path. We saw many swimmers and assumed there was another path, but we were repeatedly directed to the closed path.
We were puzzled, and decided we would inquire at our B&B
and return in the morning....but, in fact, that is the only path down to the beach!!
So, we never ventured down the roped off, rock falling, dangerous path, but we were truly awed by the unforgettable view from above. The view alone is worth the trip, and if you are more adventurous, go for it!

Fisrt rent a "motorino". Arriving is quiet an adventure, but once you're there you forget about time, you need some sandals or some appropriate shoes, the beach is not a sand beach lots of peebles. Great time, lovely weather.

I spend almost 1 hour to reach this place, 30 min. was walking on pathway with very hot wheather, around 40 degree for nothing!
Finally I've arrived but It was horrible place, beach sand similar like mud, sea was very dirty and sunbeds was very very old and uncomfortable..
Never ever visit this place..

Gets pretty full and busy. The toilet or luck of adequate toilet needs so real improvement. Make sure you have good shoes as the footpath which is more of a Bear Grylls adventure will hurt your feet if you only have on slippers.
