Thank you, Kostas, for the warm welcome! After a long flight from the USA to Athens, and then a connecting flight to Santorini, we weren't sure if we needed to call you for directions to your hotel. To our surprise we found you waiting for us at the airport, and you whisked us away in your van to your hotel! My husband and I (and another couple) were upgraded to two lovely rooms. We had time to unwind, walk across the street to see the view of the Caldera, and back for your Mama's delicious dinner!

Thank you for the tasty breakfasts to start each day. The yogurt, and fresh vegetables, especially the eggplant were the best I ever tasted. Every night was a new, and interesting dish that Mama cooked, and we wouldn't have missed her meals for anything - 3 course meals that were delicious!

Thank you for renting us a car right there at your hotel! It was fun going to Amari Beach, Red Beach, Ancient Thira up the winding road, driving through Fira, stopping in Imerovigli for a drink and the sunset, and walking all through the beauty of breathtaking Oia, which is a must for seeing the sunset! We loved your recommendation to drive to Amoudi Bay, eat at Katina's (we told them you sent us!), and the wonderful hike from the bottom of Amoudi Bay to the top of the cliff at Oia, and back down! Some of our best pictures were on this hike.

Best of all was coming back to Akrotiri, away from the crowd and hustle bustle, to relax at the end of each day at Hotel Mathios Village where it is quiet and peaceful. And, of course, we knew Mama's dinner was a treat awaiting us!

Thank you for the ride back to the airport - THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!! Lori & Jeff

P.S. Thanks for arranging our connecting flights, too!

Hotel Mathios is an experience in itself. Have you seen the pictures!!! A family owned hotel oozing with traditional Greek hospitality and a wonderful staff. Located in a small quaint village the hotel exudes charm and romance. All rooms are cozy with large balconies which are perfect for morning coffee and relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine….the hotel wine is excellent. Our room was nice and very clean. We spent 4 nights at the hotel and would highly recommend it to others.

A special thanks to Kostas, the hotel manager, who took very good care of our needs. What a sweet man!! He even booked the rest of our trip (hotels, airfare to Turkey, ferries, and transfers) to Myknos, Athens, and Turkey thru his travel service. We loved his suggestions.

The staff treated us like family and it was nice to feel that they truly cared about our stay. I would definitely recommend renting a car to explore the entire Island of Santorini. The buses are extremely crowded from Fira to Oia and usually full. Why wait for hours when the Island is extremely easy to drive and navigate. Just ask Kostas for suggestions. Hotel was located about 10 minutes from Fira and Kamari Beach. For fun we spent 1 day in Fira, 1 day in Oia, 1 day at Kamari, and 1 day away from the crowds relaxing by the pool ( 2 very nice pools). It was so nice to be away from the crowd and noise and relax with the locals in a more intimate setting. We were very lucky to find this place. I know you will enjoy your stay!!

Don't forget to eat home cooked meals at the hotel restaurant. The food and wine are exceptional.

You cannot say a bad thing about this hotel or the people who work so hard to look after you. Kostas you made our honeymoon the best we could ever have hoped for!

If you, like us, are looking for a romantic getaway and trawling the internet at all the 5 stars in Fira or Oia believe me you will find it much more enjoyable and relaxing staying at Mathios Hotel - Firstly the home cooked food prepared by Mama! We are missing the Baklava and I'm trying to recreate some of her dishes. The accommodation is very Mediterranean in decor, we had the VIP room with the 4 poster bed - perfect for us honeymooners! The girls work hard everyday keeping the rooms clean and to a high standard that you'd find in any 5 star. The 2 swimming pools and outdoor restaurant is just wonderful for relaxing in the sun during the day and ordering homemade food and a beer at lunchtime then enjoying the wonderful atmosphere in the evening for diner. Make sure you try the home made Mathios Wine! We miss our delightful, friendly waiter who always had a smile on his face. All of the staff from the lovely receptionist to Kostas, his family and all the girls, they all work all day, 7 days a week to make your trip memorable, happy and relaxing. You actually can put names to the people who look after you, there are not many hotels you can say that about.

Akrotiri is a small, pretty village and there are several local shops which sell toiletries, food, drink and English papers and magazines. Then there are several lovely restaurants dotted around but we ate most days at Mathios Hotel as the menu changes everyday.

Kostas runs a travel service so he can arrange all the best places to see, do and where to eat on the Island. We hired a car and that gave us the freedom to roam the island and travel to the best beach (I believe) Perivolos, a 10-15 minute drive from Mathios Hotel. Head right to the end of the beach where you see Stavros restaurant/bar. Stavros offers the best price for comfy sunbeds and the food is authentic. For a bit of nightlife we went a couple of times to Perissa. The bars along the beach are all lit up and open fronted which is great for cocktails by moonlight but be careful eating here. It is aimed at tourists and the food may be cheap but doesn't actually taste authentically Greek.

Fira and Oia are truly magical places to visit but when you are stood with all the other hundreds of tourists looking at the great views you'll look down and see the people of the five stars sunbathing, which feels slightly intrusive. Their view is of tons of tourists taking pictures just above them- not what I call private. We love our five stars but when we saw this we were so relieved that we had Kostas and the Villa Mathios to return to every day! With its peaceful location, great food and truly wonderful accommodation you really couldn't find anything more desirable in Santorini.

We have been telling all our family and friends about Mathios Hotel and we will be back for sure!

I traveled with a few of my girlfriends and was lucky enough to find Hotel Mathios Village. We were originally going to stay only a couple of days and ended up staying for a week. The manager of the hotel, Kostas, not only helped us in Santorini but also made incredible arrangements for us in Mykonos. To say that this man was helpful is an understatement. We had pickups arranged by him and our hotel in Santorini had a great balcony with a view. The flowers and gardens on the property are fabulous and there is even a little chuch that add's to the quaintness of the hotel. The hotel wine is also a must. He even helped us with a scooter rentals. He is a local and can give you ALL the best places to eat and go while on the island. The hotel is away from all the hustle and bustle and is much needed after being in the crowded towns and sightseeing all day. I have never seen a staff and manager so attentive to their customers. Trust me, after traveling to over 30 different countries, this hotel is where you need to stay.

I traveled with my wife and daughter to Santorini and was more than impressed with Hotel Village Mathios. We demand clean accomadations and this place was spotless. The staff worked around the clock to please all the guests. My daughter spent hours in the swimming pool everyday and it had to be the cleanest pool I have ever seen. There is a restaurant on the premises that has spectacular greek food for the same price as in town if not cheaper. We enjoyed the location because it is very quiet at night. It is about 10 minutes from Thira and 30 minutes to Oia. The location is best because both Thira and Oia are crowded and at the end of the day it is great to have peace and quiet and just enjoy the pool and restaurant. We also recommend renting a car when visiting the island because buses get full and you do not to dictate your day according to the bus schedules. Getting around the island is easy and if you have any questions you should ask Kosta's, the manager of the hotel. I have never dealt with such a pleasant and helpful person. He took time to check on us when we returned back to the hotel at night and was always asking if we needed anything. Truly a terrific man.
