“Wonderful place & stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

We booked this trip on the Internet so we had no idea what to really expect, but we hoped for the best - it was incredible. Everything in Mathios Village was perfect for us. We were treated like family by Mr Costas and his employees. Costas run a family hotel and they do everything they can so you can have a wonderful stay here. It was always clean, quiet, relaxing and very beautiful. We loved it and will definitely come back later. The owner Mr Kostas is very friendly and helpful - me and my girlfriend had to rebook our stay because of some mistakes with the norwegian airlines. Costas arranged everything and we're really grateful for that. The whole island of Santorini is wonderful - Costas got us a scooter and we had this scooter during the whole vacation. We went to the lovely Red Beach, and the beaches in Perissa. We also took som trips to Oia for the sunset, and you have'nt seen a sunset before you've been to Oia! Fantastic! Take the trip to Santorini and book your stay at Hotel Mathios Village.

You will not regret.

Relaxation at the Hotel Mathios Village. Very quiet, very friendly staff in all areas. It all European languages are spoken. Bus stop right outside the hotel. A sleepy little village 200m away. Very good shopping. Ability to rent a quad, scooter and car in the hotel or in the village. Beautiful and well-maintained complex. Eat every day from mother's kitchen. Very tasty and varied. Truly a highlight for relaxation, where the action does not come close too short - if you want. Beach 10 minutes walk to the caldera with fantastic tavern with local dishes. We were happy. We'll be back.

This is a lovely little family run hotel in the village of Akrotiri. It is close to local shops and restaurants and benefits from spectacular views over the caldera. The manager, Kostas, goes out of his way to help you enjoy your stay. We were there in peak season and even so it was lovely and peaceful, despite the hotel being full. There are two well maintained pools and the "no swimming after 8pm rule" makes the area a lovely dining space in the evening. Mama's home cooked food is delicious and the waiting staff are friendly without being overbearing. The whole hotel has a lovely friendly feel, you really feel like you are holidaying with family.
Kostas is phenomenal, his energy, enthusiasm and friendliness was second to none. He also has great ideas for itineraries during your stay and tries to save you money! I would definitely return to Santorini, it is breathtakingly beautiful and I would return to this hotel. Thank you Kostas and your team for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: We had a corner suit which was small and basic but had everything we needed.

Nice pool, somewhat clean room but the best thing about this hotel is the Waiter.

+ Clean Pool
+ Helpful waiter
+ Price for STANDARD ROOM
+ Pool bar prices are average, not too cheap not to expensive

- Do not believe what booking.com or tripadvisor says about this hotel and services. These are somewhat far from the truth.
- First of all, if you still want to book a room here DO NOT use the owner's travel services, for example a volcano trip (volcano - hot springs - thirassia - oia) is 38 euros per person. You will find the SAME TRIP with the SAME CREW with the SAME SHIP in Fira for 19 euros per person.
- Do not rent ATV's or Cars from him they are overpriced because he works with another company, so he has to save something for him. Don't be fooled that it's hard to find a rental company. They are ALL over the island, in any village/city.
- The showers are small even for a tiny person (He will reply to this with "You should have booked a superior room or suite") If you will book a superior or suite you can find a better hotel at this price, it's not worth it.
- The maid left the room unlocked after doing her run, nothing disappeared but still, be careful about this (We did not tell the owner about this because we did not want to make a fuss about this)
- Plain breakfast, you can live without it.
- On the internet sites it says that the TV's have satellite channels, if you call 4 channels satellite, ok, fine, great.
- It's better to be in a central spot on the island than be far and rent an ATV or Car or use the bus (which can get quite expensive if you move around a lot, and you should, because indeed this is a beautiful island)

First of all you are ,you were for few days here and you think that you know , Socrates the more famous philosopher from Greece always say that I don’t know nothing and I learn every day ,that’s my answer , lets answer to you , cruise that cost 38 – 35 depended the boat , first of all it is not the same company, the cruise that we sale has also transfers and guide all day , and extra safety . do you know how many cruises there are from 15 euros up to 350 euros per person . I have the possibility with the 19 not one buys that program , We are the only ones that we add special protection insurance ,for any rental for extra safety only on accident you can understand it , Our breakfast is fine with so many possibility’s , We have 6 international and 5 Greek channels , the cleaners never leave the doors open and they work so much all day to make this place look so nice , any ways that letter it is a nice story but that’s your idea , all the guest that they stay in mathios and they eat with us , rent all by us , trust us , be with us for so many years , they don’t exist you mean , any ways , I really want to thank you on the cliff there are villas and 5 star hotels but not with 60- 70 euros that you paid on sale with us for the standard basic room There the cost is from 300 - 700 euros you are welcome to try them , and please don’t use rentals with out special insurance if something happen to you can’t fix it ,and cheap boats we leave ones our life is very important is what I have to say good morning with smile from SANTORINI

Nice hotel, awful start to the holiday as Costas tried to put us in the small room at the front of the hotel next to the noisy road ( the same room other families had complained about) and lost his temper when we declined the room by yelling and banging his own money on the counter -saying we had booked a "basic" room. We had booked through a company and paid quite a lot. He later apologised but the damage was done. Our neighbour overheard and said she had had the same issue with him, wouldn't accept the room we had been shown to either but daren't complain to his parents about him yelling at her.The extended family were lovely and moved us when we showed them the cockroaches in the room which we were told were encouraged by the flowers outside. We went half board, food was nice and plentiful but there's no choice available and desert is usually melon or grapes . For the price you could eat in the local restaurants but its great if you prefer to stay on site.
The rooms were kept clean and the two pools were lovely and a decent size, shame about the bad start-particularly when witnessed by your child.
The island is lovely with a couple of vibrant towns but if you want a very quiet place, well off the beaten track this should suit you.

Thank you for the mail , I was waiting for your review am in this job 30 years with so many experience so many arrivals so many guest , first of all they were so many English guest that have seen all about you , how did you push us to have more that didn’t pay , and that’s not nice at all I have to tell you , all the English guest that I had and they were so many that week they show all , and they were ,so upset with you, they were the family that work for British airways and easy jet, I will remind you , There is a review from them on TripAdvisor it was 27/07 with the title of the letter “Perfect place for a chill out holiday” Please , if you book the more economical accommodation via travel agent , in the middle of high season , you can’t have superior or suite , you paid so low , and after all that I upgrade you 2 times that cost us 300 euros extra with out to charge you at all , I have done it all for your child . Most of the guest they eat by us noon and for dinner , The daily menou that you booked with 12 euros it has yes fruits but also chocolate cake , vanilla cake and so many more things , that you forget to mention any ways . I have to say paradise can be boring for some people that they are happy with nothing but I really want to thank you so much

Since our first time here, in 1990, we always have been treated like family. And Costas always is the manager that helps you with everything! After several times with island hopping, this is the perfect place to start. If you want, Costas help you with all the planning.
This time I stayed with my whole family, children and grandchildren, for ten days. And everyone loved it! They all will back. Akrotiri is still a genuine, greek, quit and nice village. And easy to reach everything you want on the island with bus( bustop outside the hotel) or on your feet, or with car, that Costas help you with hiring.
You get nice, greek homemade food. And it is clean and nice everywhere in the hotel.
