“Great Stay”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

We stayed at Aura Marina, Ostria Apartment from12-18th July 2013. Nike the manager was extremely friendly and very willing to make recommendations of what to see and where to eat and drink. We followed her recommendations and were extremely impressed with the quality at the price. Some highlights included Nikolas Taverna in Fira, Franco's Café in Pyrgos, Lucky's Souvlaki in Fira, and Dimitri's in Ammoudi Bay.

The apartment is very good for those who are looking for a self catering option in Santorini. One of the major benefits is that Aura Marina is situated away from the busy towns of Oia and Fira. This allows you to visit these places early in the morning and then move back to the quieter confines of the town of Akrotiri during the times when the other towns are heaving with crowds.

You will need to make sure you have a car, as it is a bit of a drive to Akrotiri from the airport and sea port. Alternatively you could hire a scooter or quad bike.

All in all we had a great stay at Aura Marina.

Room Tip: Ostria is in front with a good view

We spent the first week on july at Aura Marina Apartment. The apartments are very very nice and have a incredible sight of the Caldera. Apartments are located in quite place of the Island where you can live the real Greece but at the same time not so far from the beach . Inside the apartment was very well furnished, provided with air conditioning, hair dryer and a private swimming pool. The kitchen was well made, and the bedroom are so nice: it seems the apartment come from a fairy tale. You can rent the vehicles directly ar the reception. Wonderful experience.

Four of us stayed at the Aura Marina Apartments for a week in early June, the booking was done over the internet and Nike, the Manager was a delight to deal with. We had the Elos Bis Apartment, right at the front which probably had the best views. On a previous trip in 2010 we stayed at the Volcano View Hotel and I have to say that this is just as good, and a lot quieter.
We hired a car to get around, we found a local butcher, bakery and supermarket and did a fair bit of cooking in the well laid out kitchen, breakfast and dinner with these views was amazing.
Some nights though we ate at a fantastic little restaurant around the corner, it's called the Aelos, Nike will give you the directions, they have the best Rabbit!
Thanks again Nike for a wonderful experience!

Room Tip: The Elos Bis Apartment has great views""

We stayed for only one week from the 28th May until the 4th June.We had Mastrale apt at Aura Marina & found it to be most pleasing! Nike our host was lovely, very helpful & full of information & tips of where we should go, nothing was to much trouble for her & her english is excellent. The views of the Caldera from our balcony were amazing & we could also see the sea from another angle. Having our own private dip pool was great & although cold once in it was very refreshing & became a daily ritual! The self catering facilities were all that you needed and we alternated with breakfasts, lunches & snacks & vino in the evening on different days. The apts are nicely decorated with lovely touches like the candle lanterns which we would light whilst sitting on our balcony late in the evening looking up at the stars. Personally we loved the main bedroom being up the windy stairs but can see if a person was elderly or tall it could cause a problem A car is essential & we hired a quad bike for 1 day which was a lot of fun! :0) Trips to Oia & Fira are a must but defintely do stray off the main walkways to find jems of retsurants & cafes tucked away that are lovely & not so expensive as the ones in the main commercial drag & where you can enjoy the whitewashed buildings & views without a constant throng of tourists behind you. Would recommend Castro in Oia has amazing views, fabulous mussels & not too expensive. 1800 was a treat we had very discreet but personal service and lovely food & wine whilst watching the sunset but it is fairly pricy. A fabulous place to view the sunsets is down by the lighthouse taking your own beers & picnic & sitting on the cliff tops overlooking the sea. The best place to eat of all was in Ammoudi Bay, Dimitris Taverna which was recommended to us by Nike our host at the apts, it was so good we went back on our last day! Eating right at the waters edge looking into the clearest blue waters eating fish that you have selected & watched grilled in front of you whilst drinking the very good house wine, perfection! The food was amazing the service great and the bill unexpectedly cheap! Definately the best place we ate in Santourini! What else can we say other than we had a fabulous time would like to go back & would definately recomend staying at Aura Marina apts whilst visiting Santourini!

Aura Marina is a great little apartment hotel on the southern end of Santorini. Nike, the manager, was very responsive when we communicated by email and made our reservations. Her english is excellent, was very helpful with local tourist information and even arranged for a budget car rental to meet us and pick us up at the port on arrival. The units are well equipped for travellers who want to self cater. But even if you want to eat out, the convenience of a full size fridge, cooktop and microwave will allow the traveller the flexibility of preparing economical and quick breakfasts and lunches at the apartment. The private pool in each unit looked great although when we were there in May, it was still relatively cool. The only negative is the steep steps to the sleeping area and the curvature of the ceiling in the sleeping area. But after hitting your head on the hard concrete once, you likely will not do it again. You will need a car because of the distant location.

Aura Marina apartments are located on the south of the island near the village of Akrotiri, about 10 minutes by car from the main town of Fira. We were visiting Santorini for a family wedding and chose the quiter, rural location with views of the Caldera over a holiday style hotel in the resort of Perissa where most of the wedding guests were staying. A car is essential when staying here unless you are happy to sit on the terrace for your holiday, we hired one for 140 Euros for the week.

The apartments are managed by Nike who was a wonderful host, keen to share her knowledge of the island giving helpful advice on places to see, restaurants and also on what to avoid. She was extremely helpful, changing our apartment immediately to one at the very front (lower down the hill and next to the road) when she saw that my father had mobility problems.

One point to note is that these apartments are not ideal for younger children due to lack of hand rails on the stairs, pools close to the doors etc. but we could see this from the information given and the photos. 5 of us were staying in the apartment so I was given the sofa bed which was very firm and certainly not the most comfortable nights sleep I've had!

The cooking facilities are rather limited, we stuck to buffet style salads etc. when we did eat in, it would be difficult to cook a family meal on the single ring hotplate provided. Then again, who wants to be cooking when you're on holiday! The wi-fi in the apartment was lightening fast, the air conditioning units worked well when required.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Aura Marina and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others or to return in the future.

Room Tip: All rooms have a good view as they are built on a hill. Older or less mobile individuals would be b...

We have just stayed in the Meltemi Apartment at Aura Marina for six nights. We could not have asked for anything else. Nike the apartment manager was so helpful with information on places to visit and restaurants to eat at. The apartments are extremely comfortable with the most amazing views. Having visited Oia and Fira we were so pleased that we decided on Aura Marina in Akrotiri.
The apartments have all the comforts of home which made our stay here very pleasant.

Room Tip: An apartment at the front has the better view.
