“Happy New Year 2013”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

We spent 5 days here and welcomed in the New Year with a great party organised by the hotel - dancing, prizes, raffle and fireworks - congratulations!

We had half board as we were not sure how accessible restaurants would be in that location - there were a small number of beach cafes which were fine for lunch but we didn't venture too far from the hotel to eat. Food was fine in the hotel, nothing exceptional and a fair variety to choose from. But a queue for the eggs at breakfast and fruit juice was poor.

Hotel right on the beach, which is cleaned regularly, and is amazing for a walk in either direction. Boat trip from the beach was excellent- up the lagoon, river and among the mangrove swamps.

We were bothered by flying ants(?) in our room each evening and the staff came and sprayed it but we ended up buying our own insect killer. This rather spoilt our stay but could happen anywhere.

We came across the odd grumpy staff member not willing to fulfil a request, but on the whole staff were very friendly and helpful - a smile goes a long way. It was lovely to see the staff wishing us and each other Happy New Year - a happy community....

Outside of the hotel in the towns and on the beach we did not enjoy the touting by the locals offering trips, to show us around etc. So we were pleased to be within the confines of the hotel - that sounds awful when you go to visit a country for a holiday - but it just got wearing and unpleasant in the end when you want to relax and do not want to be rude to anyone. That said we enjoyed our holiday and have much to return to visit in the future....

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to face the sea which had spectacular waves breaking on the coral

We stayed two nights at The Palms. The location of the Hotel is good with easy access to the Beach. The rooms have balconies that have a view of the ocean. Beach is clean and not too many touts bothering you. Service was very good. Food is average, good variety though. If you are here for a day or two before exploring Sri Lanka further then this is a good hotel. If you are looking for a beach holiday then you may want to go further south. Also, if you enjoy going to a Spa, the one here is not very good, and too expensive.

Room Tip: The air conditioners are not well maintained, make sure they have the filters cleaned.

We were told that the hotel is recently renovated and it showed! All the rooms face the ocean which is the best part! Clean rooms, nice decor. Just walk up on the beach in the morning. Good breakfast menu with srilankan and continental cuisine. Every evening they arrange for something interesting for the guests - live music, snake charmer show, cocktail night. Do check for the same in the morning and plan ur day.

We faced some issue with the billing in the end and found the staff to be very difficult to resolve it. That left a slight bad taste at the end

Amazing Place, Beautiful property and very helpful Staff.
This Hotel in Beruwala is about 3 Hours from Kandy through Colombo not considering the Traffic. The entry to the hotel is very small and misleading (though well maintained), where you start wondering if this is the Hotel that you booked and you had seen in the Pictures.
But as you walk in, the Property opens up and you realise how vaste and beautiful the property is.

You are welcomed by a very helpful and pleasent looking staff with a welcome drink in Hand. The reseption faces the Beach with a big clean swimming pool on the way to the beach. The Beach though not very clean is decently maintained (considering that the beach is not actually the Hotels Property).
They Have free Wi-Fi in the Hotel Lobby, Good Room Service, helpful staff. They also have events happening every day in their Lobby and is pretty entertaining.

Their Food is good (though not out of the world) and if you have stayed at Ameya Hills in Kandy
just before the Palms (Just like we did) and have seen their spread for Breakfast/Lunch and Dinner, you will be mightily disappointed. They have a very less spread and pretty boring Stuff to eat ( but all that is available to eat tastes decent)

Room Tip: Opt for a Beach Facing Room towarsd teh Central WIng of the property

After 3hours of our journey we got in to a nice big garden with music lots of water flowers just in front of us the decorations are beautiful. Lady came to us with a beautiful smile and our tiredness went off. Tasty welcome drink and clean room. We had only breakfast it was a beautiful meal. We stayed there for 3 days and we didn't miss my family as the hotel staff were very friendly. Hope to return again with my kids and my mother. Thank you again for all staff you all doing a great job

An interest resort hidden from main road.
Good for quiet getaway from busy-ness of normal life.
Rooms are clean and comfortable. Good value.
Nice pool, beach with good sand but sea is not clean with oil stains.

We went for 3 weeks in July 2012, after a long long journey from London the staff at Reception greeted us like a long lost friend. The gardens, pool area and all rooms in and around the hotel were immaculate.
Staff were super friendly, chatty and approachable, nothing was too much to ask for. Management were visable and again are chatty and happy to liten to your comments.
As it was low season, the entertainment was sparse however the snake charmer was really good.
Yes there was refurbishments, but the staff tried their best to keep it as peacful as possible, although by now these should all be finished by now.
Beach was good, the sea had quite strong currents and we wouldn't suggested you go out too deep due to this.
The only thing that beg for anything at this hotel are the cheeky squirrel/chipmunks who will eat pretty much anything! They are friendly enough.

We would reccomend this hotel to anyone looking for some peace and quiet in amazing surroundings
