“It is a pitty everyone says excellent !”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

Going through the trip adviser I found that most of the reviews say that this hotel is excellent. For us this place was a nightmare ! From the time we checked in to this hotel after we came back from Maldives. Before we went to Maldives we stayed in srilanka for almost three weeks and all the hotels we stayed were excellent. Our bookings were done through walkers tours but when we came back from male we booked this hotel through agoda. We will not recommend this hotel to anyone. The hotel is under referbishment and continuos noises from all over. When we wanted to talk to a manager at around 8 o'clock in the night the staff in the reception said that no managers are available at that time and we can talk to a manager only in the morning. Our kids were terribly disturbed due to these notices and somehow we spent the night because we didn't have any other options. The following morning we managed to speak to a lady and explained our situation and she point blankly said that " if you dont like it here you could check out ". The staff were very rude and not polite at all ! The service was horrible. When we were at breakfast the staff in the restaurant wre lethargic and clumsy ! I feel this hotel is over rated.

My husband and I stayed in The Palms Hotel in March 2012. We booked through Mercury travel to see the England v Sri Lanka 1st Test and upgraded to this hotel. I can honestly say it was absolutely lovely. The staff made the stay really special for us, from the young man who cleaned our room right up to the management of the hotel, nothing was too much trouble, they were always pleasant and all work so hard. We had lots of laughs with all the bar staf who were all amazing, especially the Sri Lankan Hugh Grant, who was constantly telling us that "life is like a box of chocolates" and Chatu who had the biggest smile. It was our birthday's whilst we were there and the room boy went to a lot of effort by making swans out of the towels and sprinkled flower petals (which he had picked) all around the bed for my birthday and made a crocodile out of the towels for my husbands birthday it was amazing. We were both treated to a birthday cake and the waiters all gathered round and sang happy birthday, it really was fantastic. The food was amazing we stayed 10 nights and did not have one bad meal the whole time we were there. The waiters were always very attentive and pleasant and were always immaculately turned out in their Whites., and they all speak English and love to hear about your day, and recommend places to visit. The manageress in the restaurant was really beautiful and again always looked immaculate. The cleanliness of the hotel was first class, the bedding and towels were changed daily (unheard of in Europe). The Management of the hotel showed us one of the new suites and I must say by the time they have finished changing all the rooms into suites it will be a five star plus hotel, each room has a jacuzzi bath and shower, flat screen 32" TV an extra large bed and a lounge area. The pool area has plenty of sun beds and in the garden area adjacent to the beach, there are plenty of wooden steamers with matresses and beach towels, these are set up by the beach boy for you, the only thing you have to do is decide where you want it. The Indian Ocean was like stepping into a warm bath. All in all a fantastic holiday even if we didn't win the first test. We would definately recommend this hotel and would certainly go back again. Finally, The Sri Lankan people are lovely lovely people.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a sea view. Upgrade to one of the new suites.

I was in Sri Lanka and I visited a hotel called THE PALMS. It is wonderful hotel. All stuff are very pleasant and attentive. In the hotel there are a lots of palms and another trees 2 swimming pools (big and for children) very nice dinning room. The food was wonderful. I advise you to eat fish. Its the best fish I have ever eaten. The hotel is big. At the window you can see an ocean. The water is warm. I liked to rest in this hotel. I was really happy to stay here. SO if u dont know the hotel where you can stay choose THE PALMs and you will be very happy like me.

Our stay at the Pals was not very good because of some reasons. Firstly, it was not very clean in our room (floor always was adhesive) and it was always specific smell in our room. Secondly, as for me breakfast was terrible. And finally, we had to pay for one bill, which was paid earlier. (One of waiter was dishonest)
But in whole I liked Sri Lanka and people, who live there very much!

Our stay at The Palms was greatly enhanced by the wonderful staff who did all they could to make the holiday memorable. This Hotel was totally rebuilt after 2004 and is modern with well ventilated public areas. The room was clean and large with magnificent views of the Indian Ocean. The hotel boasts an extensive buffet style dining experience as well as a pool/beachside bar for seafood and other lunches. Bar prices are, by European standards, very reasonable and represent good value for money.
The pool area is the domain of staff who ensure that the wooden steamers are placed where guests wish them to be and supplied with mattresses and clean towels. An army of gardeners were constantly at work to maintain the extensive grounds in pristine condition. The beachside position meant that the sea was accessible in seconds. Beach hawkers were not a problem, as they have been regulated by the hotels and supervised by Security staff who kept a discrete eye on the beach from dawn until dusk.

If a quiet and relaxing holiday is your requirement from Sri Lanka, then staying at The Palms could be just your cup of tea.

Room Tip: Second or third floors get elevated views of the Indian Ocean.
