We booked the hotel as a package holiday from Dubai. We started reading on here after booking and did become a bit concerned with some of the reviews. We stayed at the hotel 4 nights and did really enjoy it. The buffet was great...an insight into Sri Lankan food. The hotel staff were excellent and very helpful to our every need. We did have some storms while we were there, but they didn't hinder our stay as it gave us chance to use the Spa and the indoor facilities. The spa was lovely and reasonably priced. Our first night in the hotel also happened to be a full moon, which was fine for us as we were tired from the night flight, but it would be an opportunity to go out to a different hotel, although its a shame not to be able to have a glass of wine with the meal. The hotel also did a great job of organising entertainment, and we very much enjoyed the Sri Lankan cookery demonstrations and will definitely be trying them at home!! The temptations restaurant was also fantastic and the food and service were flawless! All in all, a lovely holiday and a nice hotel. the only reason it wasn't a 5 was that living in Dubai, we're spoilt for hotels and it wasn't quite matching those, but considering the area etc it was great!

fantastic holiday. after reading some reviews were a bit worried, but some people always have to moan. hotel fantastic, but very quiet no drunks falling around. very clean, good swimming pool and well kept gardens. staff very friendly and would do anything to help. all the food we had in sri lanka was very good and cheap, try the maraharja beach bar ,the golden grill or aida, you'll have a good time in any of these.be brave, venture out you'll have a great time,we did . can't wait to go back!

we booked our holiday at the eden hotel and spa before the troubles started and were a bit nervous about going when we heard that bombs were going off in some parts of the island. This has drastically affected tourism and the eden was only about a third full. We cannot fault the hotel at all -the food was fantastic loads of choice for even fussy eaters, hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were all friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We booked with Tradewinds and were the only people going to the Eden from the airport and were picked up by Chandra our well informed tourist guide who was a wealth of information in his airconditioned car. I was expecting a coach not a personal chauffeur !!! He impressed us so much that we requested him on our over night trip to the elephant orphanage (which is a must) the temple of the tooth, etc. It was an exhausting trip but well worth it. The only thing that was a rip off is the jewellery even ceylon sapphire rings are cheaper over here !! OH the only downfall of the holiday was that our rep forgot to organize our pick up at the hotel at 2am to get to the airport which takes 3 hours as it is slow going travelling though Columbo. We were fuming as you can imagine as we were worried about missing our connection to the maldives but the hotel came to the rescue and phoned a local taxi driver and got him out of bed and he got to the airport in 1 1/2 hours because it was early morning and not much traffic thankfully.

We stayed at the Eden for a week in February and actually got married there. On the long journey from the airport, I did start to question our decision to marry in Sri Lanka, but once I stepped into the Eden I knew it was going to be fantastic.

The hotel is great. We had a superior room which was gorgeous. Lovely 4 poster bed, nice decor and furnishings and wooden shutters so you can see into the bathroom. I loved it!

Food in the buffet restaurant was OK, but we found the food in the Temptations restaurant to be of a very high standard and not really any more expensive than the 2000 rupees for the buffet.

The grounds of the hotel are lovely, which was a relief as we were getting married in the gardens. There's no need to take beach towels as you are provided with them every day by the men who work around the gardens.

As for the wedding - for those of you reading this who will be marrying at the Eden in the future, please be assured that it is wonderful. I had read mixed reviews on here prior to the wedding and was a little concerned, but I needn't have been. The arrangements are all a little laid back but if you are happy to go with the flow you will be fine. Our coordinator, Janaki, was lovely and went out of her way to make sure the day was how we imagined it. We had 10 guests with us who all really enjoyed the day too. We had a meal in the pavillion in the evening - a perfect setting and delicious food.

The photos of the wedding were superb - much better than I was expecting. And as for the DVD, there are some very cheesy moments but it was lovely to watch everything back.

I could go on for hours about how much I loved this place, but I'm sure you get the picture by now!

Nice resort during the day, but due to the lack of visitors I found it a little quiet, especially in the evenings (and there's next to no nightlife outside the hotel).

Entertainment staff did their best to try to organise sporting activities but again, there were hardly any people in the resort (hotel was less than 50% full) so very little interest.

The pool was nice and had a swim-up bar. The beach and sea were a bit dirty (due to heavy rains I've been assured) and should be much better in the dry season.

If you're unfortunate enough to be here on a full moon night, government rules state that alcohol must NOT be sold or consumed in public (even tourists!), making the public areas even quieter.

We stayed here in November and I think that recent reviews have been quite harsh, you've got to remember that this hotel is in Sri Lanka, and that the country is stil recovering from the aftermath of the tsunami. The hotel was better than most others we saw on trips across the country, the staff were very helpful and pleasant(perhaps with the exception of the bar staff) the location was good and the whole hotel complex was clean and secure (there were even security guards on all entrances and exits 24 hours a day). We loved Sri Lanka, it's a beautiful country and has wonderful people and are planning to re-visit to the country and would stay in Eden on our return.

This hotel is not the place to stay even for transit. Also it's too bad to spend time for overview. Just to warn you from my mistake to go there...
3 main issues:
1. Rooms are 3+ stars - I've seen number of it.
2. Food is very common and poor. They change bufet to set menu becouse of "not many guests in hotel" for 2 days and it was terrible.
3. (Which actually the problem N1) Do not even talk to this... "people".
