Let's start with the pluses. Undoubtedly The Eden Resort had great food, fairly friendly staff, and a reasonably pretty garden. On arrival the grand entrance and foyer attempt to convince you that everything is all rather special. However in my opinion this place looks better on paper than it is in real life and things are really not that marvellous.
We stayed for four nights in August when considerable refurbishment was taking place. We were allocated a room along a dusty corridor where noisy work involving hammering and associated smells of paint and solvent were right next door. We were not warned of this at check in, did they think we wouldn't notice? We asked to move and were unceremoniously allocated an identical room on the floor above while someone randomly checking in next to us was generously upgraded for no reason at all.
Meals were delicious but the cocktails unimaginative.
The pool is very shallow and warm. Strangely some of the relatively recent and glowing tripadvisor reviews curiously show photos of a pool with a bridge and where the tiles are blue. In reality the tiles are green (not that I really care) but the bridge is not there at all. Additionally the pool bar we experienced was rather shabby with a rough concrete finish. Makes you wonder when those other photos were actually taken.
The garden was pretty and I liked the look of the spa from the outside but the dreadful wire boundary fence is shabby and makes the place feel like a compound. Locals come daily to drape themselves on the wire just to stare at the hotel guests. Sometimes they bring chairs to sit on so they are more comfortable while they are entertained by ladies in swimsuits. The minute you set foot outside the fence you are utterly besieged by the most persistent hawkers we experienced throughout our entire stay in Sri Lanka and about which the hotel cares not a jot. We explored the local area, visited a temple and a town and unless I am missing something the general surroundings were just not that interesting.
If you choose to stay here, enjoy the plus points but I think you are missing out on a chance to experience the real Sri Lanka. We stayed in some more authentic places with considerable more charm in much more interesting locations.

We spent 3 days at the resort and could not have had worse service for a supposed 5 star resort. Our day started with a lack of water in the bathroom followed by a 2 hour wait before we received anyone to inspect the problem. No explanation was given for the problem until we questioned it and it was followed by Brown water being spat out of the taps for a few minutes. Then the dinner service began which was an outdoor buffet however after questioning several people about the buffet pricing and not getting a straight answer we find that they had changed the price which was listed in the hotel room menu only to explain it as a special buffet rather than a normal one. After questioning it again they cut down the bill to the listed price in the menu. The icing on the cake was a series of advertising that had a promotion for unlimited cocktails a certain entry fee however upon along for the deal we were given a bogus excuse of there being a limited amount of tickets which were sold out (not mentioned anywhere) and then after questioning them again find out that the promotion was not very profitable to them (understandably due to ridiculous pricing) and as a result had been discontinued however they didn't bother taking the ads down. To summarise don't expect quality service at this place and don't expect a straight answer from the staff until you question them. The facilities were good however the experience was not all that special.

We are aware of the sudden failure of the water supply for about an hour. This happened due to a bursting of a underground pipe line. We are extremely sorry about the unexpected situation which was never predicted. Any how our staff managed to fix the problem earliest possible. With regard to billing issue, we are surprise to hear about the misunderstanding of dinner price issue, but certainly we’ll address the issue with concern members of the staff.

On the plus side the room was comfortable, although a few problems with the sink. Staff were generally friendly, although too many pestered for tips, especially in the 36 hours before departure. We were on half board and the food was reasonable. This included the Christmas Day event, which was well catered for. The spa gave a sense of not being too clean and had equipment that needed to be replaced. not an outstanding massage, but OK. Overall I would return as compared to other places we stayed in Sri Lanka this was better. However, do not expect world class standards and you will be OK

Eden resort is a lovely and comfortable beach resort. Has a wonderful pool and access to pool. But the serice is terrible during december seasaon as it caters primarily to non-sub continent foreigners.

If you are from the sub-continent you will have to wait your turn for service. Room service took 2 hours. People who ordered after you got their food first in restaurants.

It is a terrible feeling when you pay on par with foreigners (all prices are in USD) but not get treated on par.

Perfect place with excellent food and service. Rooms are comfortable. Great place both for families and couples. Staff is friendly and hospitable. Definitely will recommend this hotel to our friends.great location and sand beach.
