“pleasant hotel for an overnight.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

Awaiting a ferry to Athens the next morning this was a pleasant place to spend a night. With an early morning ferry to catch breakfast was out of the question but the night porter was kind enough to offer coffee.A seat by the pool is comfortably shaded but for a swim a precarious walk down the cliff accesses the sea in five minutes.
The 15 minute walk to the village and restaurants is shortened by a taxi ride especially welcome on the way home uphill.
The rooms are adequate but could stand refurbishment but all seem to have a liitle balcony overlooking the pool .
Moderately expensive for what is provided.

We stayed there with my husband and 2year-old daughter for a friend's wedding, it was amongst the recomended (by the couple) hotels, the last one that still had available rooms when we made our reservation.

It's location is very good as it is a 5 minute ride from the port an the town of Aegina, just above a beautiful beach.

The rooms are small, simply decorated and out of date. The bathrooms are tiny!!! And I do mean TINY. I am pregnant and could barely fit in the shower, let along move or shower properly. We were three people as i described but were provided with two soaps and two shampoos (hotel size of course).

The pool was ok but I notised that only one of the nozzles actually worked providing clean water. It wasn't that crowded so it didn't cause a big problem.

The breakfast buffet was insufficient. Small variety and very low quality. Worst of all was the (so called) orange juice which was made from concentrate and was undrinkable.
But to be fair we hade some great pasta by the pool, I can't imagine how it could come from the same chef.

What really bothered us what that when we asked for a 2 hours late check-out they charged us 20 euro (1/3 of the room price) although the hotel was half empty and the other half was booked by our friends for their wedding, which means we were repsonsible for their whole income those few days.

The price provided as "Special" for the wedding guests was 60 euro. If you ask me, it's not that special, it was actually more than the room was worth.

My family and friends stayed here for 2 weeks during the end of may to the beginning of june. We had our wedding in aegina and took up 12 of the rooms at the Danae.
They could ave not been more accommodating! and i speak on behalf of all my friends and family! Not one had a bad thing to say!
They had allocated for all of the rooms to be on the top floor so all of my guests could enjoy that picture perfect see view too! which was so lovely!
They also all mentioned on how clean the rooms where! and i had to admit the standard was fantastic.
only down side they said that breakfast did get a little boring but that was no problem as they tended to walk into town anyway as it was only 5 minutes down hill and a lovely walk to!
so just want to say a huge thank you to The Danae for ensuring all of my friends and family had the best stay and im sure they will be back again sometime soon!

Room Tip: definatley ask for a top floor room

Nikos and his team were perfect hosts. We'd been recommended the Danae by an acquaintance and were so pleased we'd taken the cue. A 5 minute walk to the town centre, standing on a cliff top with good sea bathing down a flight of steps, a lovely pool with cafe bar, great breakfasts and helpful wise advice from the front desk. Balcony, sea views, handy for Athens by ferry or Flying Dolphins (what a great way to get around!). Temple of Aphaia is a short bus ride away, beautiful. Perdika ditto. It made the start of our 2 weeks travelling this part of Greece. Roger, Delyth & Katie

We have stayed at Hotel Danae for 4 or 5 days at the end of June beginning of July for several years. We chose this hotel initially because of its location, far enough out to be quiet yet near to the pretty harbour area and the ferry port. At the top of a hill, the hotel is walk of a about a kilometre from the harbour/port. There are several steps and also a ramp up to the reception area which is nicely furnished with sofas and chairs and a bar. The manager and the whole team at the hotel are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms face the sea and have a balcony with table and chairs, we had a second floor room. There is no lift but help would be given with luggage if required. The room is very clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed, fridge, hairdryer, tv and a safe. The bathroom has a nice shower and although a small shower cubicle, it is quite adequate. The price includes bed and breakfast. Breakfast is self service and very nice indeed, a lovely choice of juices, teas and coffee. Fruits, cereals and yoghurts, bread & cakes etc also meats/ cheese and hardboiled eggs. The breakfast/dining area is very nicely furnished and decorated and very clean - we are impressed because tables are quickly cleared, and tidied when guests have finished their meal. Lunch and Dinner is available although we didn't take that option. Outside there is a pretty garden area with lemon trees, palms, pretty flowers and bushes. A small ramp leads down to the ground level where there is access to rooms which would be suitable for anyone with limited mobility, each downstairs room has a small gated patio area with table and chairs. The pool is very nice with lots of sun loungers and large umbrellas, there is also a large covered area offering more shade from the sun. The pool bar has been refurbished and has nice tables and chairs. We noticed staff cleaning the pool area every morning before breakfast so it is a very pleasant place to sit and relax.

I have been spending vacations and work days at this hotel for the past 20 years. One year I come with students, usually 20 to 24 and the next, with my wife or alone.
The hotel is located in a wonderful setting, service is excellent and corteous. Rooms are very comfortable. I do not think the owners if this hotel ever intended to be a sort of Ritz Carleton of the Saronic Islands but simply a cozy hotel in a Greek island.
