This was our first visit to Hotel Orquidea. We had read a number of reviews with negative comments which made us quite apprehensive about what to expect but we need not have worried. The hotel is located at Bahia Feliz which is very quiet. Some reviews have raised this as a bad thing but if you are on holiday with a young family the area is excellent as it is very quiet, there are no tacky British themed pubs and pushy restaurant owners trying to drag you into their cafes. The hotel is pretty modern and very clean. Our 'standard' room was perfectly fine for the 2 weeks. With the all inclusive you get really good choices of food at Breakfast and Dinner. I'm a fussy eater and found the quality of the food to be slightly lacking but that aside there was always a wide choice. Lunch is from a choice of three bars all serving hot dogs, burgers, salad, chips, toasties etc. You can be as varied as you want it to be. The ice cream was good quality and never ran out. The kids were very happy. The pools are pretty good with a toddlers pool, a more grown up pool and medium sized free for all. A life guard is on duty most of the day and was pretty alert to what was going on in the two larger pools. The entertainment is typical holiday fare but the reps really put in a tremendous effort. All of them were very good and always seemed to be interested in interacting with the kids and adults. Sunny Sara, Becka Boo and Andy Pandy do get a shout out here. The kids clubs kept the children occupied with our two wanting to go back each day. They also have a couple of evening drop ins where you can go out without the kids. There is a kids disco every night as well. You will find yourself humming to Samba De Janeiro and Choco choco before you know it. The beach is a bit dissappointing but we didnt have any preconceived ideas and were expecting it to be pebbly. You can hire sunbeds in a sandy area by the beach but there is a charge. The fact you are right by the sea though more than compensates. As mentioned in another review you can get a taxi to Playa Del Ingles which will cost you about 7 euros one way. The beach there is massive and sandy but is let down by the surrounding town (which is tacky and British themed and full of teenage party goers). Other reviews have mentioned about the Scandanavians guests at the hotel. There were plenty of them but they all seemed friendly enough. If you went ot the Coco Loco bar at night you could see their entertainment which was also pretty good. They had a High School musical type show, which despte only having 5 on stage performers, was excellent. Hotel Orquidea is a Family club extra and included things like a football academy and swimming coaches as well as a Spa and gym (we didn't realise that) which were resonably priced. We've already booked to go back next year which should say more than the review itself.
