“Amazing family all inclusive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2011

This hotel is great and the entertainment staff are amazing. Do not be put off by the bad reviews - the people who've written them must be mad. If you go to a family hotel you are bound to get loads of kids and noise - it kind of says it in the name.

We went in early October 2011, 2 adults and on child aged 4.

There is a good choice of food at all meal times, catering for most tastes, the all inclusive alcoholic drinks are locally produced ones but you can upgrade to premium drinks for 12 euros per day. The soft drinks are branded, Pepsi, 7up etc and the ice cream is Walls.

The kids entertainement team could not be better, Becca Boo, Stuey K, Rocking Rachel, Big Daddy and the rest of the team make the hotel what it is - a fantastic place for families with children under 12. Our daughter loved the nightime entertainement and we made some good friends over there.

The hotel itself is clean with spacious rooms, each with a balcony. Some people mention loads of cockroaches - we saw 2 in a week! The shower in the bathroom was good and the air conditioning worked well.

The only downside is that there isn't much in Bahia Feliz itself, howeve the bus to Maspalomas and Playa Del Ingles stops right outside the hotel and only cost a couple of Euros for an adult.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to families looking for some fun in great surroundings, we will defiantely be going back!

Room Tip: The best family all inclusive you could wish for. Rooms above floor 4 all have an amazing sea view.

This is the second time we've stayed at the Orquidea - went for a week last year and was so good, we decided to go back again this year, but for two weeks.

Travel and Check-In - 15 minute transfer from the airport, and the Orquidea is the first drop-off. Thomson Rep Karen accompanied us on the coach. She was really friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area. She even remembered us from last year.
Check-in at reception was hassle-free, fast and friendly.

Room - We'd booked a Junior Suite, and were a bit worried as the description in the Thomson brochure and on-line is a bit hazy. Needn't have worried though - sofa bed and pop up bed were made up in the living room for our kids, and it had a separate bedroom with King-size bed (2 singles zip-linked together) Rooms were really spacious, and ours (Room 516) had great views of the pool and the sea. If you want views, you should request 4th floor or above. Daily maid service, rooms cleaned to a good standard, and plenty of towels always given.

Food - I honestly don't understand how people can complain about the food here. It was terrific! Masses of choice. I ate better here than I ever have at home! Breakfast - porridge, cereals, full English, pastries, cheeses, meats, fried eggs and pancakes cooked in front of you. Lunch - pizza, chips, pasta etc available in poolside Fata Morgana bar, or a great selection of 'proper' food in Los Nedos restaurant - fresh fish and meat cooked in front of you, paellas, veg, and puddings. Dinner is buffet style in the main restaurant - always plenty of choice. Other reviewers have complained about there 'always being pasta around', but the hotel are catering for tastes from many different cultures - including boring Brits who don't want 'foreign food', and choose to stick to what they know. There are notices everywhere about catering for special diets, and they provide gluten-free foods etc. There is also a spice table so you can add them if you wish. Our children , 1 and 3, loved the paella and the different stews and fish courses. And not a single bout of tummy pain, vomiting or diarrhoea. We spoke to loads of people, and didn't hear of anyone else having any either. The staff in the restaurant were really lovely, cleared plates efficiently and with a smile, and always gave the kids a sweetie if they'd eaten well!

Entertainment - Truly was fabulous! Please don't believe the 'Butlins' comments you may have read elsewhere on Trip Advisor. Becca Boo, Stuey K and Big Daddy should be presenting Saturday night television, and getting paid a fortune - geniuses! Kids evening stuff was from 8.15pm - 9pm, and was focused towards the under 12's. 9pm onwards was Bingo and family entertainment, by the Reps or other acts from outside the hotel.
As well as the evening entertainment, the team organise aqua-fit in the morning, a family game on the grass, family quiz at lunchtime, and water polo, volleyball and party in the pool in the afternoon. They work hard, and all the kids (and grown-ups) we spoke to loved them. They will certainly never be forgotten by our family.

Facilities - There are 2 little parks in the complex if the kids get bored of being around the pool, and a soft play room with brilliant air-con, which was a Godsend on the hotter days. There is a baby-changing room with a toddler toilet, cot, Avent bottle steriliser and a comfy chair if you're feeding. Brilliant spa attached to the hotel which you pay a little extra to use, but it's adults only, and is well worth it if you need an hour or two to yourself. I had the best massage there too!

Area - It's true, Bahia Feliz is a small place with only a few shops and restaurants. However, if like us, you're travelling with young children, you really don't need anything else, as the hotel has it all. Playa Del Ingles is 10 minutes away in a taxi if you fancy a potter around a more urban atmosphere.

I thoroughly recommend the Hotel Orquidea for young families - safe, clean, friendly, fun and yum!

Room Tip: Choose a junior suite or another upgrade if you have young kids, as these are not split-level. (Stan...

We travelled to this hotel first two weeks of September (2 adults, 1 child age 2) and I have to say on first impressions the hotel was fantastic, the room were clean and spacious, the beds were comfy and the shower worked!! We had requested a low level room and our wish was granted - only downside to this was the view, I hear if you want a sea view you need a high floor.
The food was ok providing you are not a fussy eater, my partner survived 2 weeks on pizza and chips. The soft drinks were self service so never a chance of going thirsty, the local spirits were watered down and the cocktails were awful!!!
The biggest downside was the actual resort, there is nothing there!! Its sooo quiet and shopping is expensive and all the same! The restuarants were over priced and not all that great and there is not an english bar to be seen for an evening drink. The best place to go for a bit of atmosphere is Playa Del Ingles which is 10 Euros each way but the bars and restaurants are better and the beach is also much nicer than the hotels which is black sand and pebbles.
My hat goes off to the entertainment staff, they work really hard and the kids seem to love them, the only problem is the entertainment is the same EVERY night and EVERY day and it is incredibly cheesy (Butlins eat your heart out!) It drove us mad and we were desperate for some decent evening entertainment! Our little girl was too young to appreciate the 'family' style activities so we were left bored with the resort and the hotel which made the two weeks we were there go VERY slowly!
In summary, the hotel is nice and the rooms are good but the actual resort of Bahia Feliz is dead and it works out expensive to venture out! The entertainment is cheesy and repetative so if you are not travelling with children that can appreciate it........'AVOID' because there is nothing for the adults!!!

We spent one week here from the 11th Sep. We are a young married couple without children.

Best thing about the hotel is the sea view, if you get a room in the main hotel above floor 3 then you will have a fantastic view as all rooms face the sea. We were on the 9th floor and the sea view was spectacular.

We had a superior twin room which had a large comfy double bed (two singles really) and a separate lounge area down a few steps, the only thing that let the room down was the 1970's bathroom which was in desperate need of modernising. When we booked superior I had certain expectations and sadly the bathroom was no where near superior.

The All Inclusive package at this hotel is the best we've ever experienced. The food was fantastic. Breakfast had real bacon, english sausage and beans and everything else you could ever want from cereal to pastries to fresh bread to continental meats and cheeses.
Lunch was either a self service snack in the bar or a buffet lunch where there was always fresh pasta and grilled meat and fish, plenty of vegetables and salads. Dinner was buffet again with stews, fresh fish and meat, fresh pasta, a different paella everyday, they even had roast pork one night! The dessert selection was also large. The only thing I missed was authentic Gran Canarian dishes, none to be seen which is a shame.

Ice cream was available all day and not just for the kids, beer and soft drinks were self service so you didn't have to queue at the bar or be limited to how many drinks you could get. The local spirits were also great.

There are two pools, both quite noisy but there were plenty of sun loungers available all day so no early morning towel runs required. The sunbtahing areas are quite small though so in peak season you might need to do the towel dash if you want to get close to the pools.
In our opinion the hotel could really do with an adults only/quiet pool.

The hotel does not have any loungers on the beach, the beach is a public beach so if you want to use the blue beds you have to pay 3 euros per bed. We felt a bit mislead by this because the beach features highly on the adverts for this hotel. The sea isn't great here due to the dark sand and the wind which made the sea look murky and very choppy.

The entertainment is totally ran by the Thomsons team, they seemed to have a lot of activities for all ages and a lot of facilities for babies in particular. The entertainment team work extremely hard so if you're into that cheesy sort of thing then you won't be disappointed. Acrabatties is worth watching and the Lionel Ritchie tribute wasn't too bad after a few vodkas.

Top Tip - Don't pay the extortionate day trip prices to Thomsons, there is a great car rental company just outside the hotel where we hired a focus for 35 euros for the day, 10 euros will get you round the island to all of the main tourist spots. Maspalamos sand dunes are worth a visit as is Playa Morgan which is lovely but watch out for the time share touts!

Overall a great hotel, with friendly hard working staff, beautiful views, lovely food and fab weather!

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Orquidea(12/09/11-19/09/11)and i'll write this review based on OUR opinions and observations from a 55yrs old married couple.
Room-Nice size and clean, bathroom adequate and contemporary, the shower did keep over heating,as in boiling 1 minute, freezing the next. The bed was big and comfortable and clean.Be aware that the adverts state Sat TV,yes but NOT UK tv,we had to pay an extra 14 Euros to have ITV 1,Travel channel, and BBC 1,and Channel 4,the latter 2 channels we only picked up about twice because of poor signal.I hear some saying, you don't go on holiday to watch TV,well,my wife and i enjoy being out all day, having our evening meal and settling down to watch TV at about 2100hrs,because neither of us drink or bother with the night time entertainment, our choice and yes old misery guts, but thats life,so be aware if like us you enjoy watching TV at night. The noise from the entertainment will disturb your Tv or early night anyway as all you can hear is BOOM,BOOM,BOOM, from the base of the music/entertainment system, this does usually switch off at 2300/2315 hrs, although then you do have to put up with kids running around screaming till all hours.Very naively going at the time of year we did,i expected very few kids as i thought they'd be back at school after the 6 weeks holidays,WRONG !! The place was crawling with them, and yes they were English kids so i don't know how the parents got around 6 weeks hols and then a week off to go to the Gran Canaria ??Anyway kids in abundance,so again peace and quiet is out of the window. You can sunbathe at the lower front part towards the beach,it's quieter, but with all day entertainment for the kids the BOOM,BOOM, noise is still obvious. The pools are also very cold even though the weather itself was boiling. There were plenty of sun beds to go around, although most room around the pool was taken by kids and family.
Breakfast at the Hotel was brilliant, ranging from full english to continental, cerials, fruit, anything really, can not be faulted. All day snacks were also very good.catering for all tastes and plenty of it aswell.Evening meals, not good, sadly cold and everything cooked in olive oil and tasting the same(yes i'm a fussy old sod),so we dined out at the local shopping area which consisted of about a dozen or so shops including half a dozen Restaurants,Chinese,Steak Houses,NOT recommended, the food was as poor as the Hotels evening meal.!!
If you want a bit more life and shopping,Bahia Feliz is Not the place as it's to isolated, you need to get on a bus to Playa de Ingles or Las Palmas.
Sundays are to be avoided at this hotel !!! If you like a lie in after being worse the wear from drink, you will be woken by a "disco" at 0900hrs,which is a keep fit session from the spa/health centre and it goes on for about an hour.Basically,99% of the hotel are woke up for the 1% of about a dozen people who want to be fit and jump around at 0900hrs in the AM,its loud, trust me.Then at about midday you have stock car or go cart racing on a nearby peninsula and you can't hear yourselves think.Where we were sunbathing and around the pool,it emptied quicker than being stuck in a lift with a stink bomb.We went to our room for a while and even with doors and windows the noise could be heard,it goes on for about 6 hours, honestly !!
I nearly forgot to mention, that light aircraft and mini helicopters are landing and taking off most of the day and everyday from the same area as the racing,so again no peace or quiet.
Finally, the staff just "tolerate"you as guests, not over friendly except for the barman in the night time bar next to the Restaurant,he was very, very friendly and a credit to the hotel.
I think that most people reading this will think, what a miserable old git, well i'll agree, but having worked 60hrs a week, every week all year round, and at my age where i want a bit of P and Q,and paying good money,i think i should expect at least a BIT of the above,Yes maybe i should have researched more,i'll know next time,it'll be adults only(not the way your thinking)in the middle of nowhere.!!
This is an ideal hotel for young families, honestly you'll love it,with the food and entertainment and the weather, but NOT if your a grumpy old no pleasing 55 yrs old couple.!!
I hope this review helps at least 1 couple/person make up their mind/s about this Hotel./
Thanks.

Room Tip: If you want some peace and quiet,DON'T GO !
