Lovely place, I can't understand what the bad reviews are about, they had 3 meals a day downstairs with the option of chips, Burgers and Hot dogs at lunch. The rooms were basic, but clean all the same. It had a TV, and was air conditioned with a balcony and It was cleaned daily. The pool was very big, with an outside eating area, sunbeds and lovely music that'll have you all dancing a long at the end of it! My only complaint about the pool area was through no fault of their own and it would be the wasps. Short walk to a little town and small beach, but very relaxing. The bar was well staffed too. The entertainment crew was great, but I have heard that unfortunately some of them are leaving. It was fairly lonely around there but there were buses going to Mahon, cheap and regular. The place overall was a very big place and catered well for different languages. There was Internet available at reception, Mini golf, mini club (For kids), A children's playground, Tennis courts, football courts and a multi-purpose court. I personally didn't see a bouncy castle or trampoline, and didn't go into the fitness suite. We had a go on the Yellow Catamarans in the port mahon, and the fish's were a magnificent sight! At Grupotel, like most all inclusive's, we had to wear a band and I advise you to keep moving it up and down your arm whilst sun bathing, or you are most likely to get a sun tan line :L Taxi's were €15! Lovely beach in son bou with sunbeds available to hire (2 sunbeds and umbrella for €17), Banana boats and slide pedalos which were AMAZING! Although if you are going on a Banana boat, close your mouth and hold you nose when turning a corner!!! Overall a great place, and I recommend it!

i returned from this holiday on the 3rd of october but am only getting around to writing this review now as the day after we came home i started suffering from gastroentiritis and am still recovering.
it rained for 5 days of our trip and it was dangerous to leave the apartment due to the slippery steps. our room was not what we expected.the travel cot was all ripped and just dumped outside on the terrace with the wasps so we didnt use it.we slept on the couch every night because the beds were so uncomfortable you might aswell have been sleeping on the tiled floor. we had an issue with our air con but i must admit the reception staff were very good and sorted it out immediately.
there was absolutely nothing for our 19month old to do on this holiday which was really annoying as thompsons recommended this place for us and it was booked back in april (not cheap).there was a creche if thats what u call it... it was dirty and outdated. the entertainment in the day was useless and hardly anyone joined in. the staff were not that enthusiastic but then again it is the end of the season so i am sure that is why ( that was there excuse for everything).. the baby pool was full of mould at the bottom and there is no non slip surface to one side of the pool and my daughter slipped on it and bust her upper lip... i was not happy and we did not return to the pool...

the food was never labelled correctly and was always cold.yes there was loads of choice but none of it particularly appitising. i noticed most people were eating from the childrens buffet in the evenings as there wasn't one at lunch time due to it being the end of the season. the fish and chicken was never cooked through.the rice was raw in the paella.. the best thing was the bread in my opinion.

we didnt stay any night for the evening entertainment as it was too late for our daughter but she really liked the mini disco and one of the women gemma was absolutely brilliant with the younger children during the mini disco.

the coves are non existant...not even worth the walk down the hill.. there is nothing outside of the resort but mahon was nice..there were some really good quirky shops if you enjoy spending your holiday shopping.

so anyway overall we had a horrible holiday and i would not recommend for anyone but especially young families and it was full of old people anyway...

My partner and I took our 1year old, and were extremely nervous after reading about wasp infestations and food causing illness ect, but this simply was not the case. We've just returned after a week at this hotel, and it was absolutely fantastic.
Granted, there were wasps, but it wasn't as bad as some people have made out. I'll admit, I'm terrified of them, but You leave them alone, and they leave you alone. If allergic, i wouldn't take the risk, because you never know, but none of us got stung, and to our knowledge, none of the other guests did while we were there. They did enter the bar area, but were never in the restaurant. The floor in the bar would be slippery when wet, however there were signs saying not to enter wet and bear feet to prevent slipping hazards, and all people on our trip appeared to take note of this so it wasn't a hazard. They had burger, sausage and chips on offer daily in the bar, along side of pastries biscuits cakes and drinks, but had much more variety in the restaurant. It was all well cooked, and absolutely delicious. People were complaining while we were there about choice, but there was plenty. Lets be realistic, when going to a different country some of what's gonna be on offer is going to be local delicacies, but that's the same wherever you go, and some people aren't prepared to try it. My partner did, and loved it. I'm more of a fussy eater, but I never had to eat the same thing twice in a few days. They had steaks, fish, chicken, rice, various salads and veg, pizza, burgers, sausages, soups, breads, pasta, pork, lamb, various potatoes and then their own styles of food too. And that's just a few things from the top of my head. Our little one loved it too, and loved the fruits on offer. There were also plenty of mouthwatering desserts. The resort is pushchair friendly, having ramps to the reception, the restaurant, and the bar. It was a step up into our room, but that wasn't a concern with the pushchair.
There are two beach areas five minute walk from the resort, one has steps and a ramp, the other steps and a more rural walkway down. Both quiet nice. We saw some wildlife down the more rural walkway, it was lovely. There's quiet a lot to see if you go looking for it, or even ask at reception what walks you can do. They sent us on one with beautiful scenery, and we found another. Both amazing.
There's a bus service to the capital, Mahon. if you visit this resort its a must to go here. We went twice, and loved it. One of the days we went on the glass bottom boat trip. The bus stops at another location too, we didn't stop here, but that's also an option if you do visit this resort.
There seemed a lot do with children here, maybe not older teens, but that's just from what I saw. The entertainment team organised a variety of activities for everybody to take part in. We didn't with little one being so young, but we saw a fair few people appearing to have fun taking part.
Some people have written that the pool was never cleaned, our room was opposite the pool, and with the little one we were up rather early each morning, and every morning without fail there was one or two workers cleaning the pool and pool areas. The water was rather cold, but I presume that to be due to the time of year, but once in you soon warmed up. There was plenty of loungers available.
The room was lovely, and well cleaned on a daily basis if you wanted it to be, besides a Sunday and a Tuesday. The mattress was quiet a firm mattress, and my partner loved it. I have a bad back anyway, so couldn't hack it and slept on the sofa by the end of the week. Having said that, it didn't ruin the holiday, as the sofa is one you can pull together to make a double bed anyway so the room could sleep more people.
The local shop was a spar store. if you need it, you'll buy it, as there isn't another shop unless you go into another town. We brought a few things here, not too bad in price, and quiet a variety. We took all our nappies wipes and milk powder with us, to save having trouble not knowing what the shop sold. They do sell nappies and wipes, but if you take a young baby I definitely recommend taking your own milk powder if bottle feeding. See how the weight goes on your suitcase, and if possible nappies and wipes. But they do sell some, and they sell few baby jars too.
There are two play areas for children, out little one loved them!
We used a cot from the hotel, the mattress is slightly small for the cot, but there wasn't an actual issue.
All the staff we met were extremely polite and helpful.
I would recommend this hotel, just bear in mind there are a few wasps, if taking a baby take your own milk powder if required, and explore the area to get the best out of your holiday.

This hotel should carry a warning from any travel company using this facility. stuck approx 6km from the nearest town which doesnt offer much anyway. the bus service to mahon runs at 0900 1300 1700 and 1900 only and returns at 15 minutes to each of these hours. so on an evening you are stuck in the hotel unless you use expensive taxis. whilst not expecting 5 star treatment for the price we paid we did expect the very basics. which should include in an all exclusive holiday decent food. the only thing that was above a normal temperature was the ice cream perhaps they should of put the hot food in this area as they were cold at best. anyone with any slight difficulty in walking would feel trapped in this hotel as there are steep hills whichever way you want to walk. the draught lager was very nice but unfortunately the entertainment was garbage if you are over the age of six. mini disco until 21.30 every night followed by the so called entertainment which usually consisted of getting holiday makers on stage and trying to make them look stupid. I am aware that it was coming to the end of the season but if they are going to provide this kind of holiday i personally would not go again if it was free and they arranged travel door to door. the most enjoyable part of the holiday was the british humour used by the guests to sarcastically report on each day there.

Room Tip: a good room to pick would be in another resort.

my wife and i have just returned from spending a week at this hotel and here is what i can say about it,ill start with the good points ummm yea, it had a big pool and now with the bad bits, the hot food was cold all the time, the apartments were very basic and the beds end up giving you bad back to sleep on the couches instead, service at the bar area in the evening was allways slow, and watch out on the tiles when they are wet as they become very very slippery but no one bothers to clean it up.In the appartmens they are very dated and basic but the walls are so close you can here everything going on ewhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

in a nut shell i would not recomend this hotel at all

We have just come back from mar de Menorca, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable 10 days.

When we arrived the rooms were not ready (which was fully understandable as we had an early flight). The reception staff were helpful and efficient, and guided us to the bar area where we waited a short time for our room.

The rooms were basic, as you would expect for the cost of the holiday, but also very clean, air conditioned, with a tv, and it was cleaned daily during our stay.

My partner and myself were very happy with the food on offer. We ate three times a day, and never had the same meal twice. The food was of good quality, and there was more than enough to go around. We dont understand the bad reviews that the hotel has had, we had no complaints at all.

The pool area had ample seating, nice music in the back ground, entertainment throughout the day, and large swimming pool that never seemed to be crowded or manic. A very nice area to spend a lazy day with a book.

Yes, there were wasps out during the day. Some people have made out its infested with them. Not true. I have seen a lot worse in other countries. I am not a fan of wasps in the slightest, but there was not one point where they bothered us, let alone ruined the holiday.

The beach is a very short walk from the hotel, with two beaches to choose from. They were both very clean, with stunning warm water, lots of fish, and bizzarely a group of ducks that happily swam around.

The bar at night was well staffed, sometimes there was a queue, which is understandable with the amount of people staying there. The entertainment was varied throughout the 10 days, and we especially enjoyed the chinese acrobats.

The area around the hotel is sparse, but held hidden secrets when you went out walking. We found caves, old settlements, wild tortoise, humming birds, and simply stunning coastal views. For people that complain there is nothing near the hotel, they clearly didnt get off their bums and have a look around!

The bus service to mahon was cheap and regular. Mahon itself is well worth a look at. We spent two days there, and had a boat trip too.

In summary, this hotel was a good value for money, clean, well staffed, and an enjoyable place to be.

Room Tip: We found the ground floor rooms to be nice, with a patio where you could have sun loungers. Our room...

I went with three friends to the mar de menorca, after reading the fabulous write up about it I would like to put people straight
local bus service - 1 every four hours
200m to local beach - fine going downhill but you need an oxygen mask to come up it
hotel is in the middle of nowhere
suitable for the disabled - you have to go up and down four flights of steps to go to the restaurant - the actual hand rail down the steps to the restaurant is so low it is only suitable for children
now the food - there was plenty of it but very little was edible - all of it was cold except for the salad which was luke warm - and no butter only margarine(more like cooking margarine). This was not a last minute cheap holiday, it was booked last year and was quite expensive compared to the one I went to in Feurteventura last year for the same price, which was a thousand times better, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, not even my worst enemy,
If anyone does go don't bother looking at the comments in the restaurant, as we have found out they tear any bad ones out.

Room Tip: if you have trouble with steps chose a one bedroom apartment as all of these ore on the ground floor...
