El Gallo (The Cockerel) is set in stunning surroundings providing delicious Menorquin food with friendly, personal service. We ate here on our second day (Thursday) after seeing the famous horse show, which was recommended to us and is directly opposite the restaurant and on the road between Ferreries and Cala Galdana. The building is a beautiful old farmhouse with white-washed walls, ceramics and lot's of charm - there's even a donkey in the garden. The owner welcomed us warmly and we had the menu of the day, which consisted of a starter, mushrooms cooked in garlic, which was absolutely delicious and a mouth-watering lamb dish for the main course. In fact there were two lamb dishes, which whetted our appetite so we ordered one each and shared them - lamb chops and lamb from the cauldron. We decided that we would go back again the following week. This time we watched the sun set in the garden and saw the views of the mountains before having another delicious dinner. We had excellent service again and would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. The owner is very friendly and has been in business for over 30 years.

We had dinner at El Gallo in August 2012. Great little relaxed restaurant, in a farmhouse, with a beautiful garden. Perfect ambient environment for our taste, entirely different from mass tourism restaurants. We tried the mixed paella (meat and seafood), for which the restaurant is famous, and we were not disappointed. We expected to taste a rather intense contrast in meat and seafood taste; however they all blended smoothly in a delicious result. We were slightly disappointed by the desserts. There was no home-made one left and the one we tried, similar to a lemon sorbet, was merely acceptable. The service was quick, even though rather indifferent. Maybe the fact that it was a very busy night, accounts for it. Do remember to make a reservation, they do not accept customers otherwise, at least in the busy summer months. We would surely return to El Gallo, both for its dishes and atmosphere.

Directly opposite the entance to the Martorellet equestrian show, at km1.7 on the Ferreries to Cala Galdana road (look for a restaurant symbol roadsign just before), El Gallo ("The Cockrel") is a low-slung, ramblng stone building housing a smart meat-biased restaurant that opens evenings and weekend lunchtimes during the summer. The interiors are cosy, attractive and well decorated, but the food just didn't quite do it for us - too well done and too chewy for a restaurant that specialises in barbecue food. Thirty five years in the same family - perhaps it's tme for an injection of fresh thinking...

This place is not easy to find ! but is worth it. The restaurant is family-owned, they will make you feel at home and give you advised about their menu. You will love eating there, the atmosphere is fantastic, it is quiet and the food is outstanding ! They are well known for their steak and cheese sause and I have to say it is the best we have ever tasted !!!!!
