“Decent value, nice staff.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2013 via mobile

The hotel is located fairly close to Palma and a couple of small beaches but the neighbourhood seemed fairly quiet and didn't offer much (expect this to get better closer to the summer).
The hotel itself is fairly standard; didn't feel like I was getting spoiled in any way but the quality was good given the price. Found the guys at the front desk to be helpful - one young guy, Jose, especially stood out; always positive and seemed very interested in both helping and following up on questions.
The room was clean although some barely noticeable spots had clearly been left out of the cleaning routine.

Recently back from a weeks stay at the Blue Bay Hotel.
Apart from thr steep hill up to the Hotel and thin walls in the Hotel we found it a great place to stay.
We had a spectacular view from our very comfortable room - towels were changed every day and the room was spotless clean.
The staff were all very plesant especilay in the resturant.
We were half board and found the food excellent at all times - plenty of choices.
Could have done with a little more entertament but never the less had a great time.

Room Tip: Double rooms all appear to have best views in the front of the Hotel. If you are single might be wor...

Fantastic hotel, the staff, facilities, food and location are excellent with lovely gardens, clean pool and a friendly atmosphere. There are good restaurants nearby especially El Pitufo which is down the hill and turn left at the main road, the restaurant is on the right towards the beach. Martins Irish Pub is good too, again down the hill on the left before the main road, Premier League matches shown here. At the Blue Bay we had a great breakfast everyday and in the evening relaxed with cocktails in the lounge. We are going back again next year, the hotel is a great location for Palma, just 10 euros in a taxi (3 people), great Cathedral and shopping. Cala Major lovely resort. There is a wonderful Joan Miro art gallery in the town too, walking distance from the Blue Bay. Great bus service too. Almost forgot Lennox bar in Palma worth a visit.

Room Tip: Better to be on the lower floors for mobility. We were on the 7th amazing views.

just returned from a week at the Blue Bay in Cala Major.

Firstly, Im having difficulty in writing this review. I guess the bottom line is the answer to the question "Would you return there?".......... and the answer is No.

The reasons are hard to define, but first the positives. The staff are really good. Pleasant, helpful, courteous and agreeable in every sense.

The rooms are cleaned daily. The food is well prepared, albeit a little repetitive and same same, but that said, its ok. Some of the English guests I spoke with did not like the food at all, but I can only give my opinion, and, well, Ive said it.

If you are lucky enough to get a seafront facing room, you will have adequate space. If like me, a solo holidayer, you will be relegated to the rear face of the building and a MUCH smaller room with two single beds crammed in. I did ask for a room change and was told it was "impossble". The bed I slept in, reminded me of an army bed, steel sprung webbing and a thing mattress. Turning over the springs would remind me of barrack life. Thin mattress, not a 3 star mattress Im afraid.

Noisy? yes, from close other rooms and rooms above, from clear sounds of toilet usage to hearing people shave. I dont know if its the same on the seafront rooms, but mine was.

the bathroom in the room was half the size of the room. There is a nice small balcony, no table and only one chair, so Im presuming it was intended for a solo visitor. There is wireless internet connection in the room, and to use it, I had to remove the TV from the small (sloping and loose) wooden bracket, and not lean on the laptop too heavy whilst using it.

Big lounge with well stocked bar, and a swimming pool... 3 levels down via steep steps.

The thing that would stop me choosing the Blue Bay again, is its difficulty in getting to it. A steep hill on the front road... read STEEP, and a steep series of steps on the back road. Read STEEP. Now if your like me, and not the fittest in the world, it will hurt. You will have to stop periodically to just breathe, Oh yes, some ultra fit cyclists staying at the hotel blew past me walking up the hill every morning, and yet in conversation with them over drinks, they agreed it was STEEP.

So, Overall, its a well staffed hotel, well run, but ...... not a 3 star quality. Its got everything you need and to be honest, I can live with it all except... the hill kills it for me. Maybe for the more energetic its fine. Not for this boy.

Just got back from our second stay at the Blue Bay. The stay was really delightful (again), but I feel that I ought to mention a couple of points, both good and bad.

We got a room on the first floor, with a view over the ocean. At first, we were a bit afraid that we wouldn't get as great a view over the ocean as we had on our first stay. We found out that we hadn't needed to worry: The view was fine from the first floor, which is elevated quite a bit and far away enough from the pool that noise from it would not be a trouble. I guess: There were no people at the pool this time of year.

Having the bar just downstairs, we did notice some noise during a wonderful flamenco performance. The show was over well before 11pm, so we didn't mind. There was no noticeable noise during ordinary days, without a show.

The flamenco performance (free, in the bar area) was just great. Superb to have a free show as part of the stay.

Bar prices are reasonable (about 4€ for a drink). Remember to taste the Sangria - they make quite a nice one at this hotel! Don't expect umbrellas and stuff, just the liquid....

The kitchen closes at 9pm. It's a bit early, as mentioned before. However, we did get to stay a bit later one evening. A glass of red wine comes in at about 1.8€ and is okay without being anything special.

Evening dinner gets a bit tedious if eaten for a week. It's typically chicken, fish and some red meat. It's a bit too much like fast food for my kind of liking. There are, however, a nice salad bare, which offers 3-4 kinds of salads. Dessert is fine, too. I wish the evening dinner was a bit more varied, but at this price point (you can buy it for 10€), I guess you cannot expect a whole lot more.

Breakfast could be more varied as well. There's toast and eggs, ham and cheese and some marmelade. It's okay, but I ended up eating the same stuff for a week and got a bit bored with it. Cereal is available as well and looked nice, though I didn't try it.

The staff is very competent and nice people, too, willing to help out as needed.

No bugs found in the room except for some little flying thing a bit larger than a fly. Wonder what that was...

If you end up taking the wrong bus line 46 to the hotel and find yourself at the last station, just walk a bit farther - the hotel is right around the corner.

So, all in all, I must say that we had a great stay once again. Of course, services must be view in light of the price point, and we certainly found that we got our money's worth.

Thanks for a great stay, Hotel Blu Bay!

We stayed in the Blue Bay for 4 nights half board. We found the staff very friendly and the food very good. We had a sea view room on the 5th floor. The view from the balcony was stunning. The room was perfect for us, clean and spacious. The pool and gardens looked very pleasant (too cold to test the water!). Car parking was in the streets near the hotel and it was always a challenge to find a space. The sea front was a short but steep walk away. We would recommend the hotel for an out of season break but possibly not for high season when we understand it is used for all-inclusive stays.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view and upper floor

We stayed here for 4 nights for a short break in March. Hotel staff seemed to be limited but all very courteous, helpful and amusing. We were on the 1st floor directly next to the stair well, so it was a little noisy with the bar below and people coming up and down the stairs - luckily it was fairly quiet. The room was small and basic but clean and had plenty of storage and lovely views of the bay. The food selection was limited: two meats, one fish (these changed daily) chips or potatoes, one type of veg and a pasta option which all seemed to stay the same when we were there. The salad bar was good though and so was the small choice of deserts. It is the first time I've eaten at a buffet-style hotel and the food actually burnt my mouth - makes a change! Breakfast was more continental - not sure it this is standard or just because of low season but there was plenty of cheese/meat/cereal/fruit/pastries to choose from.
A fair walk from Palma (takes about an hour) but this is pleasant in the sunshine next to the port. If you are not up for the long walk, take the bus - really easy to catch and just EUR1.50 each way. Would recommend to anyone looking for good, cheap, basic accommodation near Palma.

Room Tip: Ask for a high level room away from the stair well!
