“Great holiday”
Reviewed July 19, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here for 1 week and had a ball, absolutely no complaints on any aspect of the hotel from the room to the food. We didn't eat in the hotel every night because we chose to go to a couple of very good local restaurants but the food from breakfast/lunch and evening meal was of a decent standard and there was plenty of choice, thought the all inclusive closing at 11pm was a bit steep and might not suit large groups but you could stock up and stay for as long as you wanted to, I would say the hotel and holiday was excellent value for money and would go back on the same deal if it became available.

Unfortunately due to our hotel (Belvedere) being fully booked when we arrived, we were relocated to Blue Bay for 1 night! Initial impression were fine, but these changed quickly when we opened the door to what could only be described as a SHOEBOX! The 'room' was tiny, and as a result you had to shuffle around the bed to move. Also, only 1 person at a time could fit on the balcony that overlooked some shabby buildings. In addition, the bathroom was tiny, with a toilet that could only be flushed once a day! The food was poor, very little choice!!! The rest of our holiday was spent at the Belvedere, which was in comparison far far far SUPERIOR!

After reading some reviews we were expecting the worse! We were pleasantly surprised to find a nice hotel. Pleasant chap on reception. Yes the room wasn't big nor the bath! and the double bed was pushed up against the wall.....but it was bright and clean and as a 3 star Spanish hotel exceeded our expectations. Our room was on the 7th floor with a view of the local playground but it was quiet. Food was okay although not much choice never had a problem finding something we both liked. A nice fruity red wine washed down our food on our all inclusive deal. The pool area/garden was well maintained and was nice to sit out there with a drink. Of a night the indoor bar was open with Paco and Gabby serving most evenings. There was a chap serving at the pool bar who could do with a bit of customer training but don't let him put you off! Had a great time here so all we can say is give this hotel a go it doesn't deserve all the negative comments.

I have booked only because of price. Overall not bad. It was central enough and despite on a hill top, going down is a breeze. The rooms are simply too small, not only singles as I treated myself to a double room. The food is ok, there is a large choice, still is Spain, so do not expect much in terms of food. Definetly not for people with reduced mobility, but families and people on a budget can really enjoy, both Cala mayor and the charming Palma, without renting a car as buses are plentiful and fast.

4 star hotel....my @rse
500 metres to the beach....my @rse
food tastes like....my @rse!!!!

On arriving at the the " 4 star" Blue Bay Hotel we were a little surprised that the hotel sign outside clearly indicated it was a 3 star; and even this is pushing the ratings to their limit.

Not to be deterred we exicitedly checked in, looking forward to dropping the bags of in the room and getting down to the pool to enjoy some sunshine and hotdogs!

We got to the room and struggled to drop the bags off because they hardly fit in the "room"! We actually thought that we had been given the key to a broom cupboard by mistake, but alas no....this was our room! In fairness the room was very clean and tidy but given the size of it it would be almost impossible to make it untidy!! before heading down to the pool we decided to spend 5 mins on the balcony....we had to do this in 2.5 minutes shifts as the balcony was so small we had to take it in turns to sit out!!

Undeterred we shuffled out of the room and headed down to the pool. We eagerley headed to the bar to get some much needed refreshments. We ordered two drinks and two snacks to be told we couldnt have snacks yet as they didnt start until 3pm...I glanced up at the clock which showed that the time was precisely 14.57!!! When I pointed this out the bar man "Happy Harry" stated "things are very controlled around here!" - Auschwitz was probably less controlled I thought to myself! Any way we took a seat 1.5 metres away from the bar to while away the 3 minutes before we could sample their culinary delights!

After having our fill of hotdogs and cheese and ham toasties we decided to take a stroll down to the beach, advertised as being 500 yards away! this was when we realised we had forgotten to pack our mountaineering equipment....silly us!! There are approximately 367 steps down to the nearest beach, and I use the word beach loosely as argos sell bigger sandpits!! The larger beach is much further away, although the hotel does lay on a complimentary coach transfer throughout the day.

We did find a lovely little cove a little further down the road where we sipped sangria building up the courage and strength to get back up the steps to our cupboard in the sun!!

Time for evening meal....OMG!!!! The food generally throughout the week with a couple exceptions was at best awful and at worst inedible!! One such delight was chicken legs which when I cut into them I thought I had severed a major artery! Fortunately we had noticed a vets practice on the way to the beach and they were able to bring the chicken back to life!! which was fortunate as on some mornings the hot choice at breakfast was hard boiled eggs or hard fried eggs....both of which go lovely with the tinned fruit salad they serve!!!

The town itself is a dump, and not in the slightest a holiday resort....more a rundown suburb of palma!

All in all we had a great holiday but this was inspite of the hotel not because of it.

Would we return??? not unless we we find ourselves starring in one of those reality weight loss programmes on TV as the Blue Bay with its awful food and gruelling walk to and from the beach would gaurantee weightloss for anyone....The Blue Bay Hotel will be the next big diet fad!!!!!!

Room Tip: go to a different hotel

Just come back from blue bay with my partner and our 2 year old, when we arrived the receptionist staff are ok was given a room on the first floor room 132 it was very clean and tidy small but compact the balcony had 2 chairs but you had to do some somersaults to sit 2 let alone 3 people out there. we tried waiting for the lift and after 4 days managed to get it once!! the lunch menu is chips, potatoes, salad, and was a fish dish and a pork (i think!!!) thats it and dessert is fruit this did not change for 4 days, we went to the pool area which is lovely and quiet but they only have 6 umbrellas for the whole hotel which is riddicouls, you will not get service with a smile at the pool bar the man needs a bullet he actually shouted at me for ordering my daughters drink then mine!! he is the worse person i have ever seen he tutted sighed muttered and moaned every time you ordered anything at all. there are snacks but these are removed during lunch service which is silly because there was more choice there my daughter ate bread for 4 days thats it. the dinner menu is the same as lunch with added pasta. the entertainment is fine if your spanish, there is nothing to do at this hotel nothing to eat and no smiles. the beach near the hotel is very very busy and a long walk in the heat. cala mayor is a run down grotty place. In the bedroom the air con didnt work there were no bulbs in some lights the outside light didnt work, the beds are like stone and the doors in the whole hotel spring shut very fast and very noisy so all you hear all night is doors slamming! and my last issue yes i know there are many is why would you put a group of 6 20 year old lads next to a family it doesnt make sense. I know this sounds like im fussy but im really not i just expected so much more for the money we paid, the best time we had was went we went to eat out at Circos in palma nova and then played golf!! so my tip is go elsewhere or take the same amount of money again and eat out and go to palma nova for the beach and things to do!!

Reference to the bar man, we give notice to the hotel manager to consider some measures to improve the service.

Just come back from a weeks stay at the Blue Bay. We were allocated room 820 which for two people had just enough room for 2 beds and nowhere to put your suitcase. As with the reviews below I complained and after 3 visits to reception was allocated a larger room after 2 nights. Does the hotel automatically allocate (what I would class as a single room) to people who will just put up with it?
Otherwise food ok, service ok and it seemed like the other guests enjoyed the entertainment

Room Tip: The rooms facing the sea are a lot bigger than the rooms at the back of the hotel.
