We've got very good impression of this hotel and we are very satisfied. Me (27) and mom (51) were staying there in May 2011. The supper in the evening is SUPER tasty (muchas grasias to the cook, who comes from time to time in the dining room and cares/worries about how the food is eaten, corrects the view of salads so that they look still neat after people had helped themselves); waiters, receptionists, cleaning ladies are very friendly, smiling, some of them learnt somehow my name and addressed me by it, what was very pleasant. The hotel is situated a bit on the hill, but for us it wasn't a big problem. Thanks to the hill you get a very nice view on the sealine. Rooms are cleaned daily, as well as beds are being made up.
Have a nice stay!
Sofia & Elena.

Looks good, but the rooms are sooo small. I had a twin as single and could hardly move around. There was a desk, but of no use as one bed was in the way. Breakfast was ok.
Would have expected more of a 3 star hotel.
Nice views from the balcony.

I have never written a review before as I feel all holidays/hotels will have their ups and downs and you have to make the most of what you get! The room was satisfactory, clean and tidy (what you would expect). The location was at the top of a very steep hill and not suitable for families with young children or the elderly, if you wanted you could use the steps (207 of them) instead. The pool area was pleasant and the pool was good. The hotel had very limited entertainment (a singer for one night) so staying around the hotel was boring, your other choice being 'the hill' (take your pick)! Breakfast was 'continental' so if you like a hearty breakfast give it a miss! Other meals were adequate, as they say 'you get what you paid for' The staff were pleasant but the management left a lot to be desired. Unless there is a change in management or their customer care, I can see this hotel losing customers !

This hotel is good enough for what we paid.I loved the veiws from our balcony ,make sure you get a sea veiw. The problem with this place is the stairs, its a real climb from the town back up to the hotel,so if you are not too good on your feet then give this place a miss .The pool area was clean and tidy and the staff were freindly enough. If youre on a tight budget and want the sun for a few days then this fits the bill ,but not if your a wheelchair user

Note: Tripadvisor's map for Blue Bay hotel is wrong! It made me walking extra 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) in heat with backpack. You should check the right position from Kayak.com or Google Maps.

Hotel itself is very good for the money. I liked the breakfast buffet also. Cala Major was a town by the sea without large beach. From Palma bus routes 46 and 3 takes you near the hotel.

the good bits .the hotel is very cheap and clean with pleasant staff with a decent bar and lounge area and just down the road is a supermarket with everything you need .
the not so good bits .the hotel is on the outskirts of palma and at the top of a hill the food is also not very good .and trying to sleep above the noise from other rooms .
but for me a one night stay just a short bus ride away and cheap cost it was fine maybe the walls are very thin as you could here so much noise .the food isnt up to much and watch out for the drinks with the evening meal 6 euro for a glass of wine is steep when at the supermarket you can buy a decent rose for less than 2 . bus 3 to palma or 46 if you dont want to walk the hill .

Have just returned from 5 days at the Blue Bay Hotel which was very much as expected having read previous reviews. Yes there were steps down to pool and beach but these could be avoided by a slope and quiet roads beyond from the pool area - you didn't have to use the main road out the front! The standard of the hotel and rooms were as expected of a 3* hotel - if you don't pay 5* money don't expect 5* quality! We thought the food was very acceptable and quite varied and the salad bar in particular extremely good as was the wine! There was also a cooked breakfast as well as a continental breakfast each morning and also croissants, sweet cakes and fruit so plenty of variety.

On the whole the staff were very helpful - as mentioned in previous reviews the barman was very pleasant and the bar ladies a bit brusque (they were only on duty when the barman was off duty which wasn't very often!) but a good choice of alcohol was available. Yes the all inclusive does end at 11.00 pm but one can be prepared for this!
We found the reception staff helpful.

Rooms were cleaned every day to a good standard with fresh towels if desired daily. Our room was a side room and fairly spacious but bath enamel was a bit worn. We paid a bit extra and it was sold as a room with side sea view which was slightly odd as the other rooms had front sea view but they were possibly the small rooms mentioned in other reviews.

Cala Mayor is a very quiet resort and a bit on the "tired" side. In September there was no nightlife and some shops and restaurants were closed - possibly due to the season or maybe the recession. However a short bus ride (1.25 euros each way) takes you into the centre of Palma and Palma Nova isn't far the other way so plenty to do not far away both for shopping, sightseeing and probably nightlife, although we enjoyed the peace of Cala Mayor and stayed in the hotel most of the time. We did venture into Palma on a cloudy day and spent a pleasant afternoon around the Cathedral area.

We only had entertainment in the Blue Bay one evening during our stay (though there was a disco when we arrived late on the Sunday) which was a very good group of belly dancers who put on an interesting show for an hour even without audience participation!

To summarise The Blue Bay Hotel is incredibly good value for money and if you like a quiet holiday and are reasonably fit to cope with the fact it is at the top of a hill (which isn't uncommon in this area!) then we would thoroughly recommend it as we have come back relaxed, well fed and tanned!
