What a fantastic hotel with great views and NO children. The rooms where really large and comtempary. I would like to keep it a secret so no one else goes. I will most definately be going back. Only down side is people still reserve the sun beds so all taken by 8.30am!

Room Tip: Any but it is worth paying for a sea view.

This hotel is not what it sells itself as at all. The have a very good website which depicts the hotel and the area to be much more luxurious than it is. I have been to Mallorca before and stayed at Melia de Mar in Illetas just up the road - also adult only, but a 5 star hotel. Luabay La Cala is NOT a 4 star hotel. There is nothing 4 star about it and the area is full or tattooed low lifes. It is a smaller version of Benidorm or somewhere equally insalubrious. When we arrived the reception did not smile or even say 'welcome' she just gave us a list of extras we would have to pay for including poolside towels, wifi (€4 per hour!), and the safety deposit box, which requires a deposit also! In the whole week we were there we never got a bed by the pool as they clearly don't have enough sun loungers for the guests. Unless you are German and get up at 7am to claim one!

The breakfast is very average, not 4 star quality at all. Synthetic juices, coffee from a cheap machine, tinned fruit etc. We were woken most mornings by the chamber maids shouting in the corridors and banging doors, although when we complained about this they did seem to reduce the noise a little.

I am in my 30's and I honestly think that this hotel is only for either young people looking for a cheap, fun holiday but the older, more discerning holiday maker, book into Melia de Mar up the road, . It's more expensive but so much more worth it. We spent a fortune going to smart beach clubs during the day to escape this place...

Lots of issues, very noisy cleaners in the morning with no regard for sleeping guests even with do not disturb signs. The rooms were tidy but not cleaned well, soaps & shower gels were never replaced and neither was the shower mat. Although we had quite good Spanish, communication was very difficult as the staff spoke next to no English and apart from 1 or 2 they were very unfriendly.
€30 deposit for a towel that had to be paid upfront and only changed once during the week. We only managed to get a sunbed at our hotel for one morning! We paid a higher premium to stay at the La Cala but on 2 days we had to travel to another resort to get a sun loungers, another day we decided to go on cruise; as we didn't want to battle again, on the other occassions we had to paid extra for loungers & parasol on the beach. At the very least I would have expected to be able to stay on the grounds of the hotel which I paid for. Despite asking for more beds apparently this was not possible and we were told to go to the other hotels where I was reminded of tins of sardines.
Breakfast was good but you happened to come down around 10.15/10.20 all the place settings were already removed and parts of the buffet were already gone.
We we also were charged to use the safety deposit box in our room, literally the hotel charged for everything despite paying a hefty premium for the room and charging the full cost of the room to my credit card on check-in not on departure but on check-in which highly irregular and leaves the guest at a distinct disadvantage.
The cruise was booked through the hotel and on the first attempt, the coach never turned up so we were told to book another for the following day but at €4 extra per person which we did. The staff never followed despite our request up as to why the coach never turn up and the cruise the next day was not what was explained to us by the hotel - extremely upsetting.
There were many other issues; it is a shame as the building, terrace and pool area are really lovely, such a pity that due care and attention for the guests is not a priority - will never return.

Room Tip: Don't bother with sea view rooms.

The room were nice, but the cleaning ladies didn`t accept that people dont want to wake up early in the morning!
In the reseption I had to wait a loong time for just some bathtowels.
The elivator stoped, and it took long time before they helped us, no speaker inside the elevator who could tell us to relax
The food was ok,.
Not sure if I will come back here...

Before we had booked ourselves into the Luabay La Cala I had never heard of Cala Major. But Google Maps showed that it is literally next door to Palma and the satellite shot showed a sandy beach.

So, there's good and bad about Cala Major. The ressort as such is a pretty run down village in the vicinity of Palma. The Luabay group bought three properties there and turned them into new "adults only" hotels.

The idea in general is very promising. And most of their mission they accomplished. What must have been a tacky three star hotel in the 70s they really managed to turn into a boutique style hotel. New beds, a lot of white, new bathrooms. That's as good as it gets considering that they have to work with the building as it was. All the rooms overlook the sea and invite for a glass of wine on the balcony before you go to dinner.

Talking of dinner: One of the real advantages of staying at Cala Major is that there are two bus lines getting you right into the heart of Palma. So you do not have to eat at the shabby eateries in Cala Major; and if you miss the bus on the way back a taxi is only 15 to 20 Euros.

But now for the tricky part: Luabay has some serious service issues! No big deal if you stay there for two days (as we did) but pretty annoying, I would assume, if you stay longer. Want some examples? Well, take the towels. You want to go to the beach? Well, if you need a towel you have to go to the front desk. There you pay a deposit (remember: guests are either thieves or lager louts or both), get a slip of paper which you have to bring along each day you want to change the towels. Great, isn't it? Because there is nothing holiday makers miss more than some useless paper work! But don't try to discuss this with personell! They will lecture you on how terrible tourists are.

One more? There are three Luabay hotels in Cala Major. One night when we returned from dinner we say this poor couple that had come to our reception -- but they had a booking at the nearby Marivent. The bellboy was so kind! He led the way - while the guest was following behind schlepping two heavy suitcases. Well, to put it positively, you could really tell the bellboy seemed to have a secure income and wasn't working for tipps!

In a nutshell: successful remodelling of an old building, the proximity to Palma is an asset, but management better straighten out the many service issues.

I don't normally write a review on hotels I have visited but I returned yesterday from this hotel and as its new I feel I should let you all know how good it is...rooms not huge in size but immaculate, cleaned everyday with some great views over the sea, the bathroom is a little unprivate but ok. The food is excellent breakfast is great and evening meal is good sometimes smoky in the restaurant because of the grill but not too much of a problem. Nice patio outside to have breakfast and drinks after evening meal. Entertainment was low key with some good live bands on but the sister hotels had more going on and you could escape back here when you wanted. The staff were Amazing in all areas, reception, restaurant and bar, they left you alone but were always there when you needed and very friendly. Cala mayor has a nice beach but travel out for quieter and nightlife low key but a few bars and not far from palma on the no 3 bus, took about 10 mins! I could not fault this hotel, it's a very good four star, nice guests also in the hotel everyone kept themselfs to themselfs, also gay friendly! Don't hesitate it's the best I've been to in ages, also I used to be a travel agent a big thumbs up from me, enjoy this nice chilled holiday! G.Richardson

We have just returned from 9 days stay at Luabay La Cala. This is a smaller hotel with 70 rooms, looks like a little villa, it's not crouded, there aren't present families with small children, so U can really enjoy the peace. The hotel is situated 50 m from the sea.Infront of the hotel is a pool ( not very big), but is more than enough for the hotel guests, we always got the sunbeds. The room was clean, aircondition is perfect, they have a service twice a day. We had a room with the balcony and a nice view on the see. The food was really good and tastefull, varius choise for every taste, from sea food to meat, fruit,desert...compliments to the team in the kitchen.I would like to give some words about the personal, they are all very nice and helpful ,hardworking....I would like to mention some special people from the service, especially head of the catering Elena and Marta from the restaurant, and of course Juan Carlos from the pool bar. I also work in a hotel, I know how things go, so congratulations Luabay. As we had the departure in the evening, they give you a place for the luggage, so you can enjoy all day on the beach and before you leave you can take a shower in the nearby Luabay hotel Marivent.
P.S: Manager shoud smile a litlle more while he is too serious. This hotel exceeded all our expectations.

Room Tip: Rooms with sea view have a balcony and are more quiet.
