Impressive entry with an equally impressive room. Very well appointed and large rooms. The overall service was good, but the restaurant service was quite poor. The gym was in a dilapidated state and not usable.

Room Tip: Not many options for rooms as the all tended to back homes around the hotel.

Welcome drink was good. Rooms were average. Big room big bathroom. No wifi in the room. Flies in the room. They call a bed sheet as blankets!! This is again not a 4 Star hotel. This can pass off as a 3 star hotel. Lot of bugs maybe dur to the season. And towels look dirty. What i mean us the white towels are not white. Food was not great. The rooms stink. And the lobby is very warm as they off all the air conditions. Even the restaurant Is warm. Guess it's the energy saving efforts/ safe the environment effort. Rest was ok.

I have stayed here for over 10 years and it doesn't get old and its always a nice warm place to stay with superb staff and nice food. Rooms are quite large with all necessary facilities. Only issue is that during rainy season you will have to have an umbrella to walk to the restaurant which is in a separate building. Pool is very nice and the rooms are also very clean. Staff is very attentive and helpful here.

This was one of the best hotels during trip round Sri Lanka. The room was very large - with 2 double beds as standard and marble bathroom with great shower. The room was very clean with aircon, TV, kettle, water. The pool and communal areas were nicely decorated. The food at the buffet was relatively good.

Free WiFi only in the lobby, but the lobby did not have A/C during our visit. We could only stand about 20 minutes on the few chairs before becoming drenched in sweat. Speaking of that, the "gymnasium" provided on the second floor does not have any AC or fans. So you would actually be hotter running on the treadmill up there rather than running outdoors.

The rooms are very large and have a nice patio with ONE chair. My room had two lights which were out. The TV and A/C worked well.

The restaurant prefers that guests eat the buffet rather than order specific entrees. We were told it would be 45 minutes to prepare any of the items we were looking at ordering. The buffet was good, but we weren't hungry for all that food.

Pool water was clear. Rooms were quiet. It took quite a while for hot water to run out of the faucets, but when it did it was hot.

Mandara Rosen Resort is situated in the very south of Sri Lanka, in the famous city of Kataragama. This Resort is an oasis with palm trees and coconut trees, a beautiful garden and an attractive swimming pool. The Resort claims itself to be four star but can easily become a five star Resort with the addition of a few peripherals about which I shall be pleased to discuss with the management of the Resort if requested. The welcome at the entrance is genuine and with a gracious smile. It then is further extended by Chamita and her colleagues at Reception. Registration is professional and quick and on completion we were ushered to Room 123 on the ground floor. The corridor leading to the room has a tiny bridge and on either side is a pool, a one metre deep swimming pool and a little further is the larger welcoming waters of a swimming pool.
Room 123 is very large and beautifully furnished with a king size comfortable bed. The safety deposit is well placed in the wardrobe and unlike in many other other hotels, well lit. The fridge contains an array of local and foreign made liqour. The room opens to a beautiful meadow with comfortable lounge seats. The toilet is very large with a bath tub within which is the shower which is proected with a glass shower screen. We recommend the provision of a bath mat as the tub could be slippery.
We recommend half board which includes a large choice of Sri Lankan and western food for Breakfast and dinner. The restaurant is beautiful with a copper ceiling with Sri Lankan decorations hanging down from the ceiling. We recommend Management to duplicate these decorations for sale in the adjoining shop as tourists expressed a wish to purchase them. Meet Janaka Bodinayeka at the restaurant. He is solicitous, courteous, attentive and constantly strives to serve the guests and satisfy their needs.
We recommend the Mandara Rosen Resort highly and would gladly return for another holiday.

If you are doing the Yala safari, there are closer hotels to choose from .. That being said I think this was perfect for me .. The staff were welcoming, friendly and smiling which is always a plus point and gives a great first impression .. The room was big and nicely laid out and the air con kept the room cool even though it was really hot outside .. Blankets were the only thing missing but I noticed this is almost all the hotels around Sri lanka ..
Wash area and shower was also a big area to move around in, very spacious ..
The hotel is nicely laid out with the coffee shop and pool area and a little more maintenence in cleaning the grounds would be nice .. But I guess surrounded by greenery makes it quite hard to do ..
Still i wouldnt hesitate to stay here .. I had a nice, if short, trip ..
